You'll need a cloud storage Prime/Ring subscription to store the footages.

    • Yeah, price should say "$109.60 + monthly subscription". I honestly can't recommend paying for a cloud doorbell subscription, since their servers are all overseas and incredibly slow.

Plus, Arlo just jacked their subscription price up, so I'd be surprised if Ring isn't already planning the same thing.

      • Ring used to be $40, from memory they jacked up the price to $50 last year.

      • Agree servers are slow. Not often having the time to answer through the app. Won't renew my sub.

Even though this is the basic version, It's worked really well for us over the last couple of years. We don't use the ring subscription, as we don't need recording - just use it as a doorbell to see who is at the door. One thing to note on this particular version - it only works on 2.4 Ghz wifi, so make sure your reach and speed are good, otherwise you will run into issues.

  • Isn’t this $99 via Telstra?

take note without annual subscription of $49, when you miss answering it when it rang, you won't be able to view who was at the door. Many other doorbells comes with a memory card for you to view who was there. I've actually just stopped my subscription to replace with another without subscription fees & a memory card.

what you replaced it with may i ask?

Which one can you recommend ?

  • We had this model and it was a steamy turd.

Even though it was only four metres away from our modem, it would drop out constantly, and when it was connected, the dreaded five second delay wouldn't start recording until the person at the door had walked off.

To their credit Ring replaced it with the 4th Gen, which has pre-roll and begins recording a few seconds before the person approaches the doorbell.

Even though this one is cheap, I would avoid at all costs

    • Same, first one also battery was bad. Lasted 2 weeks. Got it replaced by RING. first new battery and same issue then sent us new unit. Better but still delay. Noticed that if on split WiFi (we having Google nest) it kept dropping out. Got a designated 2.4 router now and much better. Still too long delays. And we have good WIFI signal and 1000/50 FTTP.

Would this be a good alternative if you don't want to pay a subscription? Looking to replace my 1st gen Nest doorbell.

  • Amazon has it for $105 atm, and Bunnings $99.
