I love mine. Got for $290 few months ago.

    Worth every cent.

Got some Comply TrueGrip tips for mine and they went from great to excellent.

I've got the XM4 (prior model) and I got the AZLA SednaEarfit Crystal tips from Amazon and they were amazing and super customisable with varying sizes of tips (I have one slighter smaller tip in one ear and one slightly bigger tip in the other).

        • I use the Comply TrueGrip Pro Memory Foam Replacement Ear Tips from Amazon $40 for 3 sets.

These foam ones makes a good seal for noice cancellation. Nice and comfortable to wear for hours.

Only downside is, they are slightly too big for the case so they press on the inside and they are hardre to clean so only last for a few months before you need to replace them.

      • I will investigate this further.

        Thank you

Would advice to go silicon tips if possible, the azla(mentioned below) and spinfits are some of the better one.

Foam tips usually give better sealing at the cost of weaker treble (usually), but more importantly the lifespan of foam tips is atrocious.

        • I found the spinfits tanked the passive noise cancelling. Worse than the defaults.

  • Could also potentially price match Umart that has it for $339 first and then see if the $30 afterpay day coupon stacks to bring it down to $309

    • Yep and use disc GCs to pay

      • What does it mean "GCs" ? I tried to chat with Jb to get price match, but just found out now out of their worktime, so I will do tomorrow morning

  • Funny how these aren't compatible with PS5.

    • Its to do with Bluetooth and latency (when playing games)

Got these, love em, tried Bose QC2 Earbuds but these win. They have the superior noise isolation by deseign and foam tips. Meaning they're better at being earplugs. The Bose have the superior noise cancellation but less isolation. Bose for a long, quiet car ride. Sony for anywhere else where you want to block out people/dogs/music.
Happy to answer any Qs if I can, personal audio enthusiast, not an arrogant expert/audiophile.

How's the comfort on these compared to the bose?

      • +1

Sony: I insert them very carefully to try and get them sitting just right and then wear them for about 6 hours straight, if they sit just right I can forget that they're in and it's all good. If they're not quite seated perfectly I get discomfort that turns into pain after a few hours. It's fairly easy to get them sitting just right though so it's no problem.

Bose: They have an oval opening which feels weird at first, but the Bose probably overall feel a little more comfortable and don't need to sit just right for a good seal and comfort.

The Bose are much larger and hang out of your ear while the Sony are low-profile and don't stick out much (ort at all?) so they're better for using inside a helmet.
I find the Sony "fill" your ear up while the Bose are just in your ear but not blocking your ear (I prefer the full/blocked ear feeling)

Have you ever used them during light exercise. Mainly walking - mild running. Just thinking if they are sweat resistant and not falling off.

Also,if you are an apple user, do you think they work well with iphone / apple watch?

Currently I own bose qc35II over ear for day to day. Quite happy but have to replace the pads almost every 6 months since they are not sweat resistant. So thinking this Sony for my second set.

      Thanks

Yes, loads, great for walking, not good for jogging or any impacts.
Do you ever hear the impact of your footsteps with some in-ear seal type earphones?
Possibly it's just me but I can hear every footstep when jogging or even if walking heavily on my heels.
The Bose don't have this issue, jogging is fine, only if I'm stomping my feet can I hear the impact.

Ps, you can hand sew the QC35 ear pads shut where the glue fails and they last for years. The material flakes off too but still better than 3rd party replacements or paying $40 for genuine imo!

  • Really great set of earbuds. Noise cancellation still loses out to the larger brother counterpart but for its size and portability, still my pick.

  • is it possible to customize controls ? I'd like to disable the "single tap" as I usually lay on the bed to use it for watching, and I've heard many reviews said that they felt bothered because its touch was too sensitive.

    • Yes, just checked the app, you can fully unassign the touch function

      • thank you so much !

    • Yeah +1 for Techie4066's answer, more info:
You get 3 option schemes for each earbud
The controls are: tap, 2 taps, 3 taps, Hold, 4+ taps

      • 1 Ambient Sound Control/Quick Access (Noise Cancelling, nothing, nothing, Quick Attention, Volume)
      • 2 Playback Control (Play/Pause, Next, Prev, VoiceAssist, Volume))
      • 3 Not Assigned

I chose Playback Control for both

      • thanks, you are so kind

  • +1

Really wished they would let us change the volume control touches to be like the old XM3s. as they are right now, its faster to use your phone to adjust them..But otherwise great sound and NC!

    • @AAAB You, in the app if I am not mistaken…

      • +1

On the XM3's you used you be able to set the left earbud to: 1 tap vol+, tap and hold for vol-.

Instead of the current 4x tap system which is quite clunky

        • Oh really that is annoying my wf-1000xm4's have the 1 tap vol+, tap and hold for vol-. option..

          • +1

@Sean8802: yeah XM5s took a bit of a step back in the touch control customisation IMO…

That and the glossy plastic, otherwise it would've been perfect this generation

  • one main grudge i have with the xm5 over the xm4 is that the side housing of the earbuds are super slippery. It has a glossy piano black style finish on its surrounds whereas the xm4 had frosted plastic. It makes it not as easy to take out of the case and you have to be alot more careful pinching them.

I have Pixel Buds Pro which I really like, but haven't tried these. Hear a lot how good they are.

    Anyone have experience with both?

  • any inputs on voice calls?
also is this usable with one ear?

    • Have had a couple of calls without issue (or at least they didn't say anything)
Works fine with one earbud only (not sure if it automatically does mono audio, should have a setting in phone for that though).

    new version coming soon?

    • well you're not wrong! i'd guess a new model is coming this year. someone posted this on reddit which might be relevant

  • Hi,

Which version do you think is the best?

    Sony WF-1000XM4

    OR

    Sony WF-1000XM5

    • +1

From my reading the 5's are smaller and lighter. They feel ok but still fairly big so i wouldn't be wanting the 4's if they bigger and heavier

      • No, not heavier.

They're very light in the ears.

    • +1

XM5 are newer, better tech, lighter, smaller. So go XM5 if you can, if the budget is tight the XM4 are still a very good option.
Also it's often said that the XM4 were the clear winners of that generation. Now the XM5 are still fantastic but the competition has caught up so make sure to research and shop around, especially regarding foam/silicon tips.

    • I had the WF-1000.
      I also actively drive the XM3, XM4, and XM5

Comfort: XM5 is more comfortable. Very easy to put in, and doesn't feel as bulky or cumbersome to wear/insert as XM4. - Haven't worn them for an overnight flight yet; however, I think the XM5 will have less ear fatigue than the XM4.

Sound Quality: XM5 is far superior, it's incredible but the sound quality is comparable to my WH-1000XM3. Don't know if it's comparable if I plug the 3.5mm Jack in when the WH1000XM3 is in, but it is close.
