Just grabbed one at my local Woolies and they had a ticket saying $4.

    Thanks OP

    • very nice

  • Bought this morning, but takes ages to call customer service …

  • It doesnt say how much GB included.

    Is it 4GB only?

    • 8GB

    • +2

It is usually 4GB plus a bonus 4GB if you enable auto recharge.

      • +1

Get 8GB data (4GB + 4GB bonus) for the first 30 days, then 4GB ongoing. New customers only. Activate by 09/04/24. T&C apply.

Got one at my local Woolworths I am in Sydney. They had a tag

  • No No No. Bought a Lebara sim card the other day for $9 from Coles.

Tried to activate online - website said sim not recognised.

Rang and after 20 mins they answer and said email through photos of both side of the sim card and the Coles receipt.

After 2 hours tried to activate and sim was good now, EXCEPT website now wanted me to pay for the $29 plan.

Rang again and after 30 minutes the guy on phone apologised and activated sim.

Put sim in wife's IPhone 12 and only data and sms would work. Calls would not work - there has been some comments of this online with lebara sim not working with every phone. WTF - so amateur.

After another 1/2 on hold no answer so just ported out.

Have asked them for my $9 back. But of course no reply.

Save yourself the grief and do not buy a Lebara mobile sim.

Likely that your phone has NO VoLTE-capability: listed device is IN-complete-> https://www.lebara.com.au/support/volte/

List brand, model # & year.

      • +1

        it’s an iphone 12

        • Try to locate the model & reference this-> https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT201296

If your iphone-12 was brought into AU by Apple-AU, then your phone is most likely to be able to CALL when Telstra/Optus turn-off their 3G-network: later this year. When you CALL with Telstra/Optus right-now, your iphone uses their 3G-network. Vodafone has recently turn-OFF their 3G-network & hence your CALL problem with Lebara-sim.

          Buying 'parallel-imported' phones has a high-risk of network IN-compatibility issues: technical & complicate…leave this to the tech-savy.

@ab c: not my phone but pretty sure an iphone from 2020’s gonna support volte

    • +1

Yes, I prefer to use Vodafone $30 SP. The time spent to deal with issue not caused by yourself is not worth it. Optus $35 SP is also a good option for $8- on eBay.

  • Put sim in wife's IPhone 12 and only data and sms would work

I think it has something to do with vodafone shut down 3g. need to turn on VoLTE

  • My original number was created with Amaysim (I could select the number). After the Amaysim SIM expired, the number was ported to Boost. When the Boost plan was expired, it is then ported to Lebara. A week after Lebara activation, spam calls, sms started coming in. Was it coincident or Lebara listed our number publicly.

  • Grabbed a few at Woolworths Menai this arvo - they had two left. Was definitely ticketed.

    SIM expiry 27/08/2025

    • Did you get 8GB?

      • Only picked up as a churn SIM and don't need to activate it just yet. The comment above says activate by 09/04/24

  • When changing sim cards, can I keep my current phone number?

    • +1

Yes, this is the process called porting. You will need to provide Lebara with details of your current provider, DOB, etc, in order to transfer your number over.

Be aware that sometimes porting can take 24-48hrs, but can also be instant. I find best results when porting during business hours M-F.

    • I activate a new plan monthly & do have a robust-process to check, including dead sim-cards: endure long phone-wait, have a SPARE $2 sim as back-up to action a 'sim-swap'…Lebara wants a receipt as proof of purchase.

Porting your existing # to the plan add an EXTRA complication & administration to above, including your previous retailer releasing your existing #… retailerS must validate your information to minimise identity fraud/scams & process do fall-down, eg UNDER-staffing.

Rather than monthly-porting, consider PAYG-plan with yearly renewal: $10 to $15.

PAYG have expensive data-usage. If you are using a dual-sim phone with your PAYG activated, EVERY-time you remove ANY sim-card, must check that your phone DATA &/or CALL is NOT defaulting to PAYG-sim. Dual-sim phones have quirks with defaulting-function.

      • Was just looking at the PAYG and seems to be a more viable option as opposed to prepaid/postpaid. Will be using this option for my Mom who only calls a few select contacts (primarily relatives) and data usage is definitely mostly non-existent.

Please chime in to provide any popular opinions on any of the 3 methods mentioned above as a cost-effective way for my Mom's requirements. Thanks.

          Withholding any other-information ?

  • Checked the price @ww Park Sydney but it is $14.90. I scanned my ww rewards card but no difference.

    • very interesting

      no idea why

      • I find these are wildly variable and I suspect the promotion is actually triggered by the arrival of a set stock shipment to the store. These sims are handled by a third party supplier and aren't just part of WW/Coles normal grocery promotions.

So stores can have (old) stock sitting on the shelf but until the shipment lands and is marked 'delivered' in the system is when the promotion comes into effect. At least that's my theory.

        • Mostly like that EACH-state have their OWN-sales, different from State to State, & changes weekly ish.

The exception is when there is a CATALOGUE/national sales, then ALL-stores offer the sales, eg catalogue for week starting 13-Mar-> https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/catalogue/view#view=searc…

          • @ab c: Nope. I've gone to different stores during a promotion period and some have tickets up, some have the promotion price when scanned, some don't. This is why I think it's linked to a shipment dropping in the system.

Grabbed one in Tassie for $4 today, odd it came up as $15 on the activation receipt, and failed to activate, then I was sent to the service counter and they couldn't do anything, they eventually grabbed a new card and managed to switch it… It was a nice waste of 15 mins…

The woman claimed they've changed their gift card company, and claimed the gift card company supplies the sims, and cards from the old company don't work anymore… It all seemed like BS, the original and new SIMs both had the same exp date so it appears they were from the same batch…

  • It was full price when I went to purchase tonight at Taigum QLD.

    • Prices may change on every Wednesday. Currently, $24.90 SP for $6 @ Coles according to its App.

  • Did anyone actually get the extra 4gb upon activation?? I'm activating now and it says 4gb and then bonus 4gb AFTER auto recharge. But I took a photo where it says 4gb + 4gb Activation bonus. no response on live chat or phone…

    • Are you checking on the website or the app? The 4gb bonus doesn't show on the app.

      Eg

      • on the website, the banner says 4gb + 4gb after auto recharge. BUT I m in the portal now after verifying email and there is a Bonus data tab lol so I guess I spoke a little too soon, wanted to confirm before pressing activate but need to do it regardless

        Bonus Data
        4 GB

      • so the website looks like this now, so does it mean I definitely have 8gb?

        https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/126302/111405/screensh…

        • Yes that's right, you are all set.

The problem is that the app doesn't display the bonus data (on Android at least). So if you are solely checking on the app it looks like you don't have the bonus data.

          • @hamza23: thank you! nah just on desktop and its already so confusing haha
