Got charged last time have to lodge a complaint.

  • +4

Seems better then my HSBC Platinum Credit Card, that now costs $149 per year.

    • +2

This seems like a free version of Platinum but need to be Premier first

    • +5

To have HSBC Premier status you need to Hold $150k+ in a HSBC account or deposit $9k every month into an account. please be aware of this ##Australian HSBC customers demand action over $6.3m 'spoofing' scam##
HSBC just dont give a shit! Typical colonial tradition.

      • +2

What happens if the card holder does not meet the requirements after the card issued?

That is withdraws the $150k deposit or stops monthly $9k after the card is issued

        • I think I read that somewhere if you are not qualified for 6 (or maybe 3) consecutive months, you are not premier anymore. But no problem with the card.

        • According to HSBC the card may be withdrawn, this is what they told me, I suppose they will probably give a bit of notice if so.

      • HSBC serious Saver accounts only gives out 3.3% pa, thus you will lose out $2700 per year for that $150k by not putting your money elsewhere.

  • +2

Great card to have get Qantas points wherever Amex isnt accepted, 1.5 QP/$

    • +2

Reverts to 1 QP/$ after owning the card for 12 months

      • +9

that's when you close it and move on.

    • +10

Treat it like a debit card

    • +35

Are you new to bargaining? Who ever pays interest?

        • +26

Who ever pays interest on cc's?? Not ozbargainers, that's for sure.

        • Don't use the credit? It's easy.

          • -3

@hamwhisperer: Obviously don't use it. That wasn't the point I was making.

All it took was 2 airport lounges and apparently that's enough to convince people to take 5 digit lines of credit?

            • @bigtimmyc: **lounge passes

            • @bigtimmyc: Yes mate, because people here are much more likely to be financially tuned in and not stupid enough to get into crippling credit card debt.

You're focusing a lot on the lounge passes, but Qantas points and the many other benefits that are standard across most credit cards are also pretty beneficial. Why use a debit card when you can earn points on the credit card that you USE as a debit card with ONLY money you have. That's how you're meant to use them.

  • +2

What a great card for no annual fee! The only downside is the minimum credit amount of $10000

    • Is that mean to spend $10k minimum per year?

      • +5

No its a free country, you spend however much you want to spend. No one's gonna dictate your spending amount. Its just credit amount is set at min $10,000. I prefer having a lower amount so it doesn't affect your borrowing capacity.

        • +4

          No one? You sure? ;-P

This card dictates that you spend >$2000 a month or pay a fee: https://www.commbank.com.au/credit-cards/smart-awards.html

          • +2

@kenan3cn: Yup. Was using CommBank gold cc for 10 years. Just cancelled it after they changed the minimum spend to 2k per month.

Now looking at Bankwest platinum which has 0 fees, no international transaction fees and travel insurance

            • @ccir: Same here. When my annual fee lapses, I will move on. 15k a year is doable, but not 2k a month

      • +1

        they mean minimum credit limit

    • +1

Cries in Amex with a $32,000 minimm credit

      • Wow. What card is this?

      • -2

But amex isn't a credit card

      • income or credit?

  • +10

    Pretty good!!
Shame there’s a 3% international FX fee though

    • +2

wow that's huge. also ironic since their free debit card has no international fees.

      • +4

Guess the money has to come from somewhere

      • +2

        that's what she said

    • Use latitude instead

      • +1

        No points with it unfortunately

        • +4

Correct me if Im wrong but I dont think there is a card that lets you get points AND no transaction fees. Its normally one or the other. I would take the no fees anyday.

          • +2

@swiggity123: The Diners club card from Citi credit card used to be one of the best to get points, while no international transaction fee
but the card got cancelled after NAB taking over Citi :(

            • +2

              @littlesoldier: If anyone accept Diners!

            • @littlesoldier:

              no international transaction fee

My brief experience testing the Citi Diners against multiple other cards showed a consistently lower exchange rate, which therefore may as well have been a fee. No free lunch.

In any event, Diners is done - Australians lose appetite for Diners Club, all accounts closing soon

A statement on the brand’s website confirms the imminent departure, noting “As of 15 April 2024, Diners Club will no longer offer Diners Club Business Cards issued in Australia.”

Of course, the revelation doesn’t come as a complete surprise. The closure of Diners Club’s business membership arm closely follows the end of personal accounts, which ceased in Australia on January 31 of this year.

            • @littlesoldier: yup i miss this card.

          • +7

@swiggity123: Bankwest more platinum or world MasterCard has zero international transaction fees and get points.

          • @swiggity123: Coles Rewards does

            • @His_Holiness: The free one do charge a fee.

The platinum which is $99 a year has no international transaction fee

          • -2

@swiggity123: Amex Qantas or Velocity. Free and points.

          • +1

@swiggity123: Cba smart rewards, easy to avoid fees by spending 2k per month. In this climate, spending 2k is easily done, eg health insurance, groceries, fuel, already cover almost half

            • +4

@countmein: CBA ultimate rewards has no fx fee, and two lounge passes

              • -1

@markis10: But does it have an annual fee?

                • @sub102: Not an annual fee but a monthly fee of $35, which is waived if you spend at least $4,000 in the statement period.

                  • -1

@UrMumsOnlyFan: Which is almost unachievable for most people so cannot compare with this

                    • +2

                      @sub102: I didn't compare, I just answered your question.

I'll be applying for this … once I pass the six month hurdle 🙄

                      • @UrMumsOnlyFan: Thanks mate. Oh so if you don't have Premier you have to wait 6 months to get through that hurdle before even applying to this credit card

          • @swiggity123: I think suncorp cc is

          • @swiggity123: Coles plat Mastercard 2 Flybuys per point and no exchange fees, $99 a year.

        • +2

  • +1

Instant Savings (watered down Ent Book) has been good. But the 10k minimum..too high for this $4k type minimum card

  • +6

Seems good, but you need to hold HSBC Premier customer status in Australia.

Hold $150k+ in a HSBC account or deposit $9k every month into an account.

    • +1

Can you transfer 9k back and forth every month to get 'Premier customer status'?

      • +1

        Sounds like it

      • Not sure unfortunately, but it doesn't not stipulate it in the terms.

        Accounts Terms
This includes funds paid into any HSBC Australia transaction account, savings account, mortgage offset account or home loan account. It excludes funds deposited in foreign currency and funds transferred from another HSBC Australia account, including from another HSBC customer.

        https://www.hsbc.com.au/premier/#7

        • +5

As long as it's transferred from another bank (other than HSBC)
then you will be eligible to meet the $9000 monthly deposit requirement
It's actually pretty easy to set auto pay (back and forth) between 2 banks

      • Of course

      • Yes, but need to do it six months in a row to qualify.

      • 6 consecutive months i believe

  • Am I seeing this right??? 1.5qff points per $1 mastercard with $0 annual fee?!?!?

    • 1.5 for the first year then 1 point per $1

      • Still really good - now I have no need for my Westpac Altitude!

    • i’ve never seen a non amex card with anywhere close to $1=1qff point for nearly 10 years

      • ANZ Black Qantas - using it for last 8 years (Free with home loan, otherwise you pay annual fees)
1 Qantas Point per $1 spent on eligible purchases~ up to and including $7,500 per statement period

  • +13

I think OP should mention only HSBC Premier customer can apply for this card…

    • Yeah good point! I just read that to be eligible you need savings balance of $150000

      • +3

        or $9000 deposit monthly

As long as you have $9000 from another bank
you can set auto transfer to HSBC of $9000 once a month
and set auto transfer back to your other bank the next day

        • Oh right. I assumed that it was $9000 in income.
Does it effectively mean if the $9000 transfers stop, then we'll not be able to continue to hold the Premier World card?

          • @fuzor: logically yes, but I have asked before that usually stopping for 1 month wont hurt your premier status
havent really tested the rule though

            • @littlesoldier: I skiped 2 months and no problem. I read it somewhere on their webiste but dont remember exactly, maybe 3 months or even more.

          • @fuzor: Yes, it suddenly gets extremely heavy and cannot be picked up, I highly recommend you avoid clubbing on the night it ticks over because it will rip through your wallet and pants and crush your foot if you aren't careful

      • This savings balance cannot be in an offset though!!!

  • +2

This is a great card for those wishing to earn Qantas points on spending
$1 = 1.5 QFF (for the first year) is one of the best earning rate credit card I believe

Even AMEX Qantas ultimate only earns 1.25QFF per $1 spending

  • +2

Minimum income requirement $75000 why why

    • +1

      Responsible lending, most likely.

  • Just threw an enquiry, hopefully i get this jas the platinum till they added the $149 fee to it for years

Prior to that the Fee was reimbursed after you spent 3k on the card

The lounge passes are actually great and there free insurance covers more then my current Amex card

  • Having this credit card for years and I didn't know about these passes until they emailed saying they have switched to Dragon Pass, perfect timing for my overseas trip end of last year. 2 passes used, not wasted :-)

    • You didnt miss out, before the switch it was discounted lounge passes, something like usd 30 if im not mistaken, free lounge passes is new with this switch.

    • HSBC is British

      • Maybe they were just making a general statement 🤷
