New model should be out any day now?

    • +7

      Not at this price though.

    • +4

Won’t be until April, and that also assumes the base model is unveiled at the same time as the Pros (likely, but not confirmed)

      • I’d say unlikely.

        • +2

There were no new iPads at all last year, a full refresh of the lineup with the new USB-C Pencil and a potential third-gen Pencil would make sense

          • @linkindan: I agree it would make sense.

But my guess is Pro and Air soon. Mini and base later in the year for holiday season.

It is amazing that Apple can still charge this price for a 3 year old technology. I thought it when it first came out at just under this price.

    • +1

      Still ana amazing tablet

I'd now suggest the Samsung A9+ 128gb is a far better option to consider, sales are frequent enough. The support for multiple profiles is worth its the price of entry alone until apple is forced to compete and support this outside the education channel.

        • +2

Apple wants you to buy your own!

        • +4

Yeah but Android apps almost always suck on tablets.

        • Which is a faster SOC though?

    • +4

Nvidia are charging 90% the cost of this tablet for a 9 year old streaming box with a fraction of the performance and every time a deal is posted here y'all eat it up.

      • +2

        Same for Switch “deals”.

      • Are we comparing the samr things i.e streaming box vs tablet? Both have different purposes.

      • Guess that's why competition is so important

    • Yes you buy Apple tech when it first comes out for better bang for buck. I find their products over their released lifespan don’t usually come down much. At 3 years old for more $$$ I’m surprised anyone would deem it a bargain now. You basically buying a product with 3 years less life left now. Even if the new technology is double the cost, it’s probably not going to work out significantly different cost wise for it’s lifespan of the product but you are trading the discount for a worse product. I’d spend more, get a better product with double the lifespan.

The A9 doesn’t look that great of a product. I wish Samsung brought out another tablet like the S5e, which was priced similar to the entry model iPad but with amoled screen, quad speakers etc. or in other words a vastly superior media consumption product to anything Apple offers until you are at close to double the cost.

Bud. It's Apple. They've been making customers pay more for outdated shit sits the iBook days.
Furthermore, retailers are just cutting their losses and liquidating their overstock to clean their books and cut their losses.

The price is good. Just it’s the model older than the latest iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad mini; in terms of chips, gen of pencil, etc. Yes, the major feature is price.

  • Does anyone have a recommendation for a pen that is not 1/3 of the ipad price?

    • +1

I got the renaisser brand one on Amazon for my iPad Pro, was like $30, the model I got isn’t available anymore. I also have the authentic pencil 2. Tbh the generic is like… 90% there really for a non-artist. Magnetic charge is cool. Maybe the newer gen generics figured this out by now?

      • Thanks. I will search on amazon

Do not buy a 64GB ipad for your child for school… It is a huuuuuuuge pain in the ass when you have to update the OS as you basically need to uninstall everything on the ipad just to install the updates.

    • +4

Doesn’t iPadOS handle this automatically? The os is supposed to offload the installed app, make space, do it’s upgrade and then reinstall the apps. It should be seamless to the user. The other option is plugging into a computer.

asked jb hi to price match cost co they said no but offered me link for $6 off and then used a $10 sign up coupon so i paid $433 but still yet to pick it up instore. does anyone know of any good deals on cheap cases that hold a apple pen and a compatible pen deal?

    • Amazon has heaps to choose.

  • +5

Hmm, a tablet with 64GB in 2024 …. Dont think so.

    • -1

Hmm, streaming services, cloud storage and cracking fast internet for a tablet in 2024. Not every use case needs more than 64gb storage.

  • +1

Cant believe this price for a 3 year old model is a bargain. Glad I bought it when they were around ~ 350

  • Anyone know when the next Ipad Pro is due out?

  • +2

The A18 chip will be the new processor released soon, which actually makes these iPads with an A13 chip 5 generations old.

It also has the old Lightning connector, not USB-C.

    • +1

Lightning isn’t exactly a dealbreaker just yet, at least for some people

If this iPad is enough for you, an iPhone 12-14 is enough, AirPods 2-3 are enough, the first-gen Pencil is enough. So there’s a range of products that are still using Lightning that will work in unison with this iPad, and be enough for some people

  • +3

This is cheaper at Costco (silver is only in stock) at $439.99.

    https://www.costco.com.au/Computers/iPads-Tablets/iPads/iPad…

Price match at Officeworks to pay only $417.99. I did this in mid January.

  • damn I missed it.
