Sometimes kogan will have them cheaper but I'm not sure if kogan sell genuine or not

    • +1

Can confirm the leather ones I received were genuine

    • Can confirm they are genuine.

Upvote for best shoes on the planet, can't believe BigW is selling them..

Mydeal is selling them via BigW

You know sandals are a type of shoe right?

        • +1

yeah, pretty specific type of shoe

          • +4

@Hasbulla: Technically correct is the best kind of correct.

            • -2

@doobey1231: not such a thing in science: It's either correct, or it's wrong.

      • +7

All sandals are shoes but not all shoes are sandals

    • +1

Please enlighten me, I've never even touched this brand since they are far more expensive than what I use, why are they so nice?

      • +1

Best way to know is just to go to the store and try them out

        • It takes a few weeks to break in though tbh.
I got them because everyone swore by them but the first first weeks SUCKED. really hurt my feet and the foot in contact with the upper leather was sore.

after the break in period, its my go to for casual walking

      • +1

Why are they so nice or why are they considered nice?

        • +2

They are extremely comfortable my female family members tell me and if you have orthopaedic issues they give you the support you need without needing orthotics.

        • +2

I hated the look of them. the GF then bought me a pair and ever since i've been a convert.

          • @Drakesy: to be clear i was replying to jack d price asking did he mean : ' why are they so nice or why are they considered nice?'

i like the look of them - ive had the oiled black leather version in my iconic basket many times but never hit buy.
the sole not being water resistant is a big deal for me.
but the EVA versions of the birk's just dont really speak to me.

i am also unironically a big fan of crocs so kinda dont need the EVA birks.

        • +1

FWIW. I haven't found my $150 birki's to be any better than the $8 big W brandless versions.

            • @G-rig: Asics Gel Kyano 28s about $250 give or take 10%.

                • @G-rig: I wasn't asking for advice. They're different shoes for different purposes.

      • +3

I mean i would preface with the fact that everyone's feet are different so you should go try them on before buying.

But my reasoning for the love - they force your feet into good positions, I have duck feet but the birkos naturally push my feet straight instead of outwards its quite uncanny, it does a better job than my prescription orthotics(podiatrist also said great idea when I told her I got Birkenstocks lol). On top of that they are just plain comfortable, slip on and off without much effort, they have essentially replaced my weekend shoes which is usually a pair of new balance runners. On top of all that the build quality is next level, you can just tell that they are gonna outlive every other shoe in my wardrobe and as an added bonus they actually sell replacement parts for them which is really good!

        • Thanks doobey, sounds like I need to make a small investment!

      • +1

These are recommended by Art Vandelay - and he would know.

      • +3

I had this very same doubt and did some research. Here is the GIST of it. And a very true one.

        1) They are expensive, so status check passes.
        2) They do last, so people pleased with the quality and OK to spend more.
        3) Once broken in - people say they are comfortable. I personally dont own them, but plan to.
        4) Everyone who wears them believes that you can wear these with any clothing and they go well.
        5) Step 4 now becomes a cult. Ah, everyone beleives you can wear these with anything, so am gonna do the same and society will accept it. And it works due to universal acceptance. I sat in the Brisbane CBD Queens street and observed. Almost every 3rd person wore these and there was no dress code with which these were worn.
        6) Because of Step 2, 3, 4 and 5, you can use these everyday everywhere.

How is this better then a similar one from ALDI for 9.99 ?

      • Bought the ones from aldi, the soles are half the thickness and softer. Wore them out in 2 weeks. Theres also less support from the footbed and are narrower. My original birks lasted about 2 years.

Edit: dunno why the guy above is getting downvoted, it's a valid question. I though that it was just name brand marketing, until I tried it.

        • Ok ty for the answer, I bought 2 when it was on sale, 6months ago, still good for me.

      • Aftermarket support, product longevity, product quality would be the primary things.

    Nice find!

I had my Birkenstocks resoled for about $80, reusing the leather straps

    • +1

      These ones aren't leather

    • Did you get this done officially via Birkenstock, or through a 3P cobbler?

      • +2

        Authorised cobbler, via Birkenstock website

  • How long is the promotion? Already used my everyday extra this month

    • +1

everyday extra doesnt work on the shoes, just tried. must be vecause its shipped by mydeal

  • +8

Not bad but leather versions are worth the extra cost, cheapest ive seen them:
    https://www.endclothing.com/au/birkenstock-arizona-552111.ht…

    • +4

Going to get them from here instead - thanks!

      Edit: $27 shipping? Nevermind!

      • +2

This site sometimes does international free delivery. Keep an eye out.

  • +5

Great price but if I had to buy them again, I spend the extra and get them in leather/suede. The straps age a lot nicer than the Birko-Flor synthetic variant.

    • -1

Yeah, the birko/synthetic material is pretty shit. I had some and the material started tearing within a week.

        • Walking around the house. Pretty extreme, I know.
They were from Anaconda, so I assume they were legit Birkenstock.

    • I think the general consensus is that the leather ones take a bit to wear in. So long term the leather will be better if you can wait for it to wear in.

  • paid about 208 for two pairs delivered. hopefully the birko flors are better than the normal ones

  • +2

As a few people have said, the leather version of these will last much longer and age a lot better than these which are synthetic.

      • Can be resoled

        • ^ this guy knows

Edit: just checked and I got my pair in 2020 for $60 from Kogan 👀 still wear them regularly and haven't had the foot bed repaired yet, but they're about due I think

  • There's a budget friendly one from Kmart for $15

  • We’ll be back soon
BIG W is currently offline for scheduled maintenance and expect to be back online very soon.

We apologise for any inconvenience. Thank you for your patience.

    • It's back

  • Websbite keeps freaking out, first it crashed, now it won't let me log in, or accept payment as a guest.

  • the size chart in the pictures and the link on the website doesnt match up lol.

43 is UK 9 in the picture and UK9.5 in the link.

  • +3

Wait till the oiled leathers go on sale. Feels more comfy and premo imo. Go for the regular corkbed if you can, the comfort bed ones turn black so quickly.

    • Is the blackness just a comestic issue or is there quality issues with the comfort bed ones as well?

      • +2

My experience has been that while the comfort bed is comfier right out of the box (obviously), the cork is definitely stiffer and takes up to a whole year of constant wearing to properly mould to your feet, and the comfort I believe, is actually derived from the ‘custom’ mould, not the actual softening of the cork.

As for the blackness, I believe the comfort bed has an extra layer of suede on top that basically gives you that additional cushioning, but also captures all your sweat oils from your feet making it go black quickly. But this extra top layer is likely to peel off more so than the regular corkbed, so it does get more unsightly, but does not affect comfort or function.

One thing I also figured is that comfort bed is not available on all models. E.g. my oiled iron arizonas have comfortbed, but when shopping around for an oiled black, the berky rep in the shop told me they weren’t made with comfortbeds.

MyDeal could be cheaper, it's $119, but there's a $10 welcome code and possibly stacks with Cashrewards, delivery is slightly cheaper, too.

There's a targeted CBA offer for MyDeal ending today, spend $75 get $15 back.

    So potentially $119.00 + $6.95 - $10.00 - $15.00 = $100.95

  • Man inflation is a bish,

These used to be $80 every day of the week.

    • In the 90s?

        Actually were $60 off kogan.

Then they became super popular and i guess that pushed up the prices considerably.

        • it's funny because b stores which retails this in a shop are selling them anywhere from $180-$230 and they're flying off shelves.

helps that all these stores are situated in pretty affluent shopping centres/suburbs.

  • +1

Anecdotal but I had a pair (and so did a friend), they crumbled at the back. Bought a $10 pair on a Chinese website and no issues so far, same level of comfort and fit. I think Berk's are supremely overvalued.

    • Yeah they all fail like this.

If you're quick you can get them resoled before it eats away at the cork. Otherwise yeah, they end up in the bin.

    • How long has the Chinese website pair been lasting?

I've had Cotton-On ones and they last about 6 months before the foam sole is worth through to the cork and they they are binned. And the strap is pretty cheap feeling. Probably cheaper to keep doing this, but I'd rather something better quality.

That's alternating with my Adidas Adilette slides which are 8 years old (though they are on the verge of death - due the the band slowly tearing more and more)

  • +1

With these prices, theyve gone absolutey birko

  • My heal to toe(big toe) length when standing on a scale is exacly 279mm, do i go for 44 or 44.5? Thanks.

    • Mine are 280mm. I currently wear a 44 but they are a touch too long IMO, so I went 43 which is correct according to the Birkenstock sizing chart anyway. Definitely don't go 44.5

      https://www.birkenstock.com.au/pages/size-guide

      • According to thier guide and video they say add 10mm?

  • I don’t doubt the quality, but I just can’t make myself appreciate the look.

      • Birks are so common now. Like how Crocs are everywhere.

        • Just because they’re everywhere doesn’t mean they look good.

  • Do you wear these with socks or no socks?

      • +3

I guess it depends if your feet are cold.

  • It says unisex.
    I want to buy a female 39.
What size do I choose please?

  • do your feet slip out if you walk too fast

  • $114 via Woolworths Everyday Store with PAY5 code

  • +1

If you have wide feet I would avoid birkenstocks, it took me too long years ago to realise why I never enjoyed wearing the pair I had - the moulded shape was not right for my feet width & length (wide feet :) Clearly they are great for most though, so if you have wide feet try before you buy

    • Thanks for the heads up. Have you found anything similar that do fit?
