Just bought some cheap Makita battery shells to go with the Ozito Battery deal at Bunnings. This one is really cheap at A$17.30 delivered. You can combine with Clear's AliExpress Coupons and/or cashback sites. I got 3 but needed to add a few dollar fillers spare items (microwave door switches) to make it to the spend tier to get a further $6 discount.

So how do you use this?

Do you have to pull apart the ozito battery and soldier the insides of the ozito to this makita battery circuit board and case?

At least get a balanced charging board if you value your cells.

What’s more, good board will have hydrophobic coating further improves the longevity. And if you factor in good cell cost. It is almost the same price as buying locally brand new genuine product when they on sale.

Unless you refurbishing your tools and salvage old batteries. What end up happening most of the time is only one cell is dead and that render the whole battery useless but the remaining cells are actually still in decent condition. That’s when you want to join 2 dead pack into a good one.

The time that you spent on this would be more productive working a job to paid for the differences in price. The original makita batteries are also better.

Yes but a fun and potentially dangerous project :)

Save some money so that you can burn your house down.

where in your house you charge batteries and the size makes a lot of difference. When my son was into RC cars , we used to charge in bathroom or kitchen sink incase something went wrong, the hobby shops also sell “charge bags” so if batteries ignite fire doesn’t spread. Electric scooters and best place to charge is a different hot topic.

Most “charge bags” I’ve seen only but you a few extra seconds before they too are past of the lithium fire.

I looked at doing similar with DeWalt cases, but just 3D printed some Ozito to DeWalt adapters instead.

The terminals are only a few dollars https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/165820498511 and https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/165903746551?var=465402068775

    • Got blocked for trying to make a recommendation 😞

      I'll repeat without the link:
There's so many options on AliExpress and eBay, for around $20-30 bucks, for direct Ozito to say Makita or DeWalt, and you can utilise the original Ozito charger and save on doing more work.

    • what about the PCB/mainboard?
