Been waiting for a while. Need it to buy a MacBook for my kid starting high school next year.

Also travelling in Dec and can claim TRS

    • +2

      That’s a long 60 days lol

      • +1

        Will buy in Dec.

    • +6

Wouldn't you be better sticking the money in an offset/savings account until at least October?

It's likely to pop up again before December.

      • ^this

      • Good point. Will need $200 now for some subscription that are due next month.

    • So how do people claim TRS and then bring the item back? Because my understanding is you need to wait a set time before bringing it back and if you don't, you'll need to pay that tax back.

  • Let the hunger games begin!

  • Are we able to use flybuy credit to buy the gift cards or cash only?

    • +2

flybuy credit won't work. If they're included in a shop that has a bunch of non-gift card spend in it, then you might get the "use 2000 points for $10 off" that can be calimed by tapping on the screen, but you can't use flybuys points as a regular payment type i.e. where you swipe the flybuys card and key in your PIN.

      • thanks for clarifying, i thought this may be the case to avoid people double dipping in a sense by cycling perpetual flybuys points every time this deal comes around

    • +2

Lol…thats the giftcard scam related to tax

      • -3

Obviously I'm slow to get the joke on here… But thanks.

    • Are you sure they said "Apple Gift Card"?

But I believe you can use this for ATO payment.

    • +2

You need to be one of the lucky ones to receive the call

  • Am I right in presuming that one can use Apple gift cards to pay at the AOC Australian Education Union Store?

    • That's correct

      • Great, thanks for confirming!

    • Up to 8 gift cards for the online store only.

  • +1

Can we pay with gift cards for 10% price-match purchases from Apple? And how is TRS awarded if payment is made with gift cards?

    • +2

TRS won't care how you pay. they only check the total amount on the receipt.

    • Sorry I may have missed this, what’s the price match scheme about? Didn’t realise Apple had one.

  • $16 promo credit on $200 Apple Egift cards also ending tonight on Amazon

  • +6

Be aware When you buy Apple gift card from Supermarket ( especially larger amount ). There are professional scammer who switch the inside card and it is hard to find out until you try to redeem it.
Check with the shop and the card inside, make sure the serial number match between outside cover and inside card before you buy it.

    • +1

There’s a pull tab / seal in the paper outside the actual Apple gift card.

How can they replace the card without damaging or ripping off the seal?

Also the redemption code is not printed on the outside?

      • +1

See this guide. They cut the gift card open at the seams, replace or remove the code inside and then glue it shut, leaving the seal intact. Unless they really botched the job, it's incredibly hard to tell that a card has been tampered with.

        • +1

Yep. that's how they did. I got one $500 and now under processing with my BANK to get it back. Coles won't help.

          • @j00828: Wow that’s terrible! So we should pay for it and rip it open on the spot to check the serial number before leaving the store?

But don’t the cards need to be activated at the checkout machine before they become active? They could steal the card inside but would it be activated?

        • I bought a tampered card today. I was able to proof to Coles that the cards they are selling have been tampered (I went and pull down a few others tampered cards from their shelf).

There is another quick way to spot tampered giftcard.

          1. Check that the id/serial number just at the top right of the barcode are not tampered.
          2. Check that you cannot easily pealed the seal (Don't pull the tab, but try to peal the seal).

          Hope that helps

          • @hckme: With the ID/serial, you can block the giftcard if you call Apple. That's why they tampered them.

      • But the cards always get activated at the checkout and only after that it works. So how come this scam can be possible?

        • I think they have some script to check whether a card's been activated

        • When you check out the the shop. it only scan the outside card, you don't know the inside card have been switch until you try to redeem it.
Before activate the gift card. Just check with the shop if you can open it and check the serial number match between outside cover and inside card, after activated, redeem it ASAP.

    oh i stuffed up…

Doing it for the first time. Wasn't thinking and understanding the Apple Giftcard thing properly.
Bought $1900 worth of gift card today (rather than wait for 3 more days for this deal to be activated)…

Any advice on how to get a refund? :(

    • You don't.

      • Sadness.

        Thanks mate.

  • I am a bit confused as I have gone down to too many expired Ozbargain posts relating to this. The credit that you have made using Flybuys to buy Apple cards can be directly used when purchasing from Apple if your Flybuys is linked to to your Apple Wallet and you ses you apple wallet to purchase ? I have about 18 tabs open including Cashrewards and AOC :) Any advice from my learned Ozbargain colleagues will be appreciated

    • Aww an Easter neg. That's helpful.

    • No.

It's the same as getting $10 back on your shop after 2000 points. You can use it as flybuys dollars or redeem it for use via the flybuys website the 10% off equivalent has nothing to do with Apple and is not related to use on their website.

If your question is about how to redeem the gift cards you bought, I believe you redeem them on the Apple website and add to your wallet. You're then free to use it across the Apple Store/services. Hope that helps!

Thanks for replying sina566. I figured that I had gone down a rabbit hole and took a wrong turn. I checked out the Apple website and realised I can add the cards at the checkout.

  • Not sure if it’s a valid deal. The catalogue link is broken. I can’t find the deal in the hard copy either. So far, there’s no promotion banner in my local Coles this morning.

      • Thank you! I must miss it.

    • The catalogue link is broken.

Is the catalogues link broken? I went to the link and set my store to one in Melbourne CBD, and saw the deal at the bottom of page 39.

I can’t find the deal in the hard copy either.

The physical Coles catalogues at Coles stores are usually an abridged version of the digital Coles catalogue. I have picked up physical Coles catalogues within the last few months and usually noticed that gift card deals (amongst many other advertised lines) are missing.

So far, there’s no promotion banner in my local Coles this morning.

It is not of much concern if you were at a Coles Supermarket, because staff may be slow (or may forget) to put up promotional posters for gift card deals up.

However, if you were at a Coles Local or Coles Central store, those do not participate in the gift card deals advertised in Coles catalogues.

      • +1

Thank you for the sharing! You’re right. The hard copy I read is the abridged version. And the catalogue link/page is fixed.

        I’ll shop again.

        • +1

I understand what you mean by lack of advertising. This was my local store, but on closer inspection you can see the promo.

  • +1

I went to make use of this and found my local store refuses to stock Apple Card’s because “customers are being scammed”.

    How ridiculous.

They’re still displaying all the marketing materials for this current promotion though…

    • +1

So does your local store stock Google Play gift cards as well?

      • Of course they do! Plus steam, red balloon, etc etc etc.

        • Why though? Google Play cards also have scam warnings too. Point that out to your local store and see what they say

    • Similar situation at Coles Sanctuary Lakes, went in to see all Apple Gift cards removed. Funnily enough, the marketing material was there on each individual hook which was supposed to have apple gift cards on them. 15 min wasted.

EDIT: A nearby coles has comprised cards so this must be the reason. They haven't removed it yet though, I have alerted them

    SCAM ALERT

the scam cards are still out there! Coles Wydham Village had cards where the outside and inside number didn't match. I brought it to the staff's attention but PLEASE open them and check them before buying.

    • Confirming that if the GCA number matches in particular that it's fine? Sorry for the silly question but I'm paranoid now.

  • Are threre anyone having experience buying $500 variable apple gift cards before?
Is the 500 variable denomination eligible for 20x points?
    Many thanks!

    • I just bought a few then. It is eligible. I've claimed it before too with zero issues.

  • These work for Apple Music don’t they?

    • They work for:
      - Mac
      - iPhone
      - iPad
      - Watch
      - Accessories
      - App Store
      - Music
      - TV+
      - iTunes
      - Fitness+

      • +1

        Sweet thanks for that.

  • "… maximum of 50,000 points can be collected per Flybuys account per day" - I take it that this includes the 20x bonus points.

So max is $125 worth of Apple GC per day or am I misinterpreting this?

Edit: got it … the normal point is $1 = 1 Flybuys point and this deal gives 20 points per $1.

  • Anyone know how long it takes before I can see the points credited to flybuys account?

Bought last evening and still don't see them in account. Checked the receipt and it does show my flybuys card number was scanned.

  • Can Applecare be purchased using Apple Giftcards?

  • So it's basically value amount * 20 = flybuys points?
    $1500 GC = 30,000 flybuys?

    • yeap, thats right
