Would You Buy ALDI's New Clothing Range?

I saw on the news a few nights ago, Aldi has launched a clothing range. I only heard this while cooking dinner and sounded great. Cheap enough for getting dirty, a bit like Kmart's cheap range. But, I now see that their range is their colours and logo on the clothing!

I don't mind the colours, but the logo? Here is their Hoodie/Sweatshirt example.

So, would you buy their clothing?

    a $15 hoodie, hell yes,
just to take the piss out of others wearing a $150 job from some other silly brand. white fox? nike? wtf?

    • SUPREME

      • Supreme hoodie for $150?

        • +2

I'm still not convinced that the whole "hypebeast" "Supreme" thing wasn't an internet joke that got out of control.

          • +1

@CheapandUsed: It really was a fantastic idea. Sell limited edition clothes weekly

    • Check the prices on some Palm Angels gear, your eyes will melt.

If you don't like minimalism, you can purchase hoodies for about $15 shipped from Temu with all kinds of prints on them. Aldi's products are presumably made in China too (or another Asian nation). There are probably places in China that will print whatever you want onto clothing, but you need to find a highish resolution image with minimal artifacts to get good results (300 dpi raster, or a Vector image), and deal with placement; most people are too lazy for this.

    Good discussion here

I want an aldi logo on my clothes about as much as I want Nike.

    Hint: not at all

  • +8

Just don’t wear it to Aldi. People will ask you for help.

    • +1

“Yeah the very last one is in the back, let me just go get it for you”

  • +1

    Maybe ironically.

  • The blue trackpants would be the only thing I might buy if they are good quality. The logo isn't to obvious and obnoxious.

  • Why people buy branded hoodies at a premium (unless the quality is good) is beyond me.

    • +1

If someone wants me to wear their logo they can pay me.

  • i'm gonna look so cool in my new aldi branded merch!

  • +2

buying it and wearing it in public are two disparate options. if it was marked down to $1 i would consider it for sleep wear

I have to scan and bag my own items at Colesworth & they still will not provide me with a uniform or at least invite me to their Christmas party

  • +4

I wont buy any clothing with logos on them.

When I buy a new car I tell the sales person, no dealer stickers on the rear window or anywhere else, no dealer number plate frames and no custom number plates with the dealers name on it.

If I'm a walking/driving billboard they can pay me to advertise their business.

    • I wont buy any clothing with logos on them.

Where do you end up buying clothes?

Avoiding logos is a bit hard. The only brands that really spring to mind would be ones like Muji and some Uniqlo. I'm guessing there are other dirt-cheap options but the quality would be dubious (even a lot of Uniqlo stuff is pretty much disposable). iirc for sports shirts, Patagonia capilene is practically unbranded (small tag which is removable).

      • +2

AS Colour don't have any logos either and are pretty good for basics

        Ascolour make brilliant blanks

Former streetwear guy here. Logo heavy clothing is out, it jumped the shark in 2020 when every brand started putting a million logos on everything. Now it's all about good fits with no logos. My picks atm…

Los Angeles Apparel for their heavyweight sweats and their Yukon army tee. The sweats start to break down at the 3 year mark but I like the style and the weight and they're juuust worth it for the price, longer lasting options are either double the price, have huge logos, or have a wack fit. The Yukon army is the best value tee available currently. They're thick as hell, very flattering, and they last forever without going out of shape. I'm wearing one more often than I'm not atm.

        BronsonMFG for their 300gsm tees @ $38

APC raw denim jeans when I can find them on sale at the ~$150 mark

        Uniqlo for undies and socks

Outerwear and shoes I still drop $$$ on. I like jackets and if cared for properly they last forever, this is where I splash out on statement pieces. For shoes its GYW for work, some Engineered Garments loafers, Danner boots, and a couple pairs of Nikes - mostly quality stuff that will last a decade

        • Where do you buy said Yukon and BronsonMFG Tee? (without paying huge international shipping)

          • @JimB: I only order once or twice a year and so it's not hard to hit the minimum order amount for free shipping. It's ~$210AUD for Los Angeles Apparel and $99AUD for Bronson. Bronson actually has stock in AU, when I've ordered from them they've been sent out from Richmond VIC.

            • @Cheaplikethebird:

Is the Bronson stuff made in the EU or Far East?

              • @mrdean: Far east. They’re doing the whole Japanese high quality military/workwear repro thing, copying brands like Real McCoys and Buzz Rickson (direct copies in some cases), but manufacturing in China. Quality is amazing for china made. I’ve been wearing them for a little over a year and they’ve held up great and they’re super thick (30% thicker than the AS Colour heavy tee)

                • @Cheaplikethebird:

but manufacturing in China. Quality is amazing for china made.

                  Thanks, figured as such.

For tees, my staples have been American Giant. Bought a bunch when they launched about a decade ago now. The heavy tees still hold up well, the standard lightweight ones are just ok as are their sweats/hoodies.

                  • @mrdean: Yeah I've heard good things about American Giant I'm just not into their styles and they're a bit spenno. I'm sure these shirts will last similarly, they've lasted a year of weekly washes so far without going out of shape.

        • What loafer brand would you recommend? I just find it hard to justify the cost sometimes.

          • +1

@youfnc: Purely from a style/quality (and not cost) perspective I love Yuketen loafers which have more of a Native American style rather than American preppy. They're about $750USD though so I have a pair of Engineered Garments X Sebago loafers instead which I bought on sale for $200 that share a similar aesthetic.

            • +2

@Cheaplikethebird: Damn man, username doesn't check out with these loafers!

              • @Naigrabzo: Everyone has something they spend their money on and I think I'm punching pretty well above my weight for my clothing spend. It's hard to understate the privileges dressing well affords you, it's almost akin to pretty privilege.

                • @Cheaplikethebird: Hmm that's interesting. Which field of work or you mean social life?

TBF one can be cheap in all walks of life lah. :P

                  • +1

@Naigrabzo: IT but it doesn't really matter what field you're in. To put it crudely, in this world there is great power in people wanting to be you and people wanting to f""k you and the more people want to f""k you the more people want to be you. Talk to anyone who has lost a decent amount of weight and they'll tell you, the world just changes.

                    • +1

@Cheaplikethebird: Hmm. Food for thought. :)

Thanks for that dude. I need to keep my eyes open for more MJ Bale sales.

                • @Cheaplikethebird: This thread about aldi clothing has certainly taken an interesting turn :)

Ive found Duluth Trading to be a good source for high quality neutrally styled clothing, but haven't had to ship to Australia yet.

It's hard to understate the privileges dressing well affords you, it's almost akin to pretty privilege.

I've personally never noticed the difference between dressing up/down and social interactions, but I gave up caring about fashion decades ago.

                  • @rumblytangara: Haha yeah just shooting the shit.

Though I've personally never noticed the difference between dressing up/down and social interactions.

You've probably either never dressed poorly enough to notice or you don't dress as well as you think.

                    • +1

@Cheaplikethebird: I've never dressed really terribly, and when I gave a shit about clothing used to shop in Knightsbridge (UK). Naturally, this was pre-kids.

I also think that hitting middle age or being an obvious foreigner pretty much neutralises clothing effects.

      • Where do you end up buying clothes?

Kmart, Rivers, Big W, Connor, Lowes etc. Also find good stuff at the Salvos and other Op shops.

Scored a pair of Mambo shorts at the Salvos for $8.

    Wait….this WASN'T an April fool?

  • There are no Aldi stores in my state, so 100% yes I would. Good for the gym.

  • +1

Sure, I'm not a pretentious piece of shit.

Clothes are clothes, who cares about the brand except for shallow morons? If it's cheap and fits well then it's fine.

    • +3

I'm sure a Borat mankini is cheap and comfortable in the summer.

  • I actually really like the colours and designs and out of context, the simple 'A' logo is quite pleasant but no I wouldn't buy store branded merch. Maybe the beanie

  • +1

Probably be popular with bogans, particularly those type that think they’re not bogans…

  • +1

If Costco can, why not Aldi?

Actually, who am I kidding. I wouldn't wear a Costco, Aldi or any other supermarket logo clothes.

That's not to say I wouldn't buy clothes from there, just not with their logo.

I do have a couple of straw hats with the Bunnings logo. For $6 I couldn't say no, for doing some work around the house, or even at the beach.

    • what work are you doing at the beach 🤔

      • +1

        Haha

Shifting the sand before the high tide.

1 pair of slides with a side order of socks thanks.

Cheap in the streets and even cheaper in the sheets….
That said, that they got "urban" looking folk for their "urban! Fashion but have exclusively white folk featured in the remainder of the catalogue seems an interesting choice. Perhaps only white people sleep? Who knows…

Just pretend it is United Colors of Benetton or Ralph Lauren!

    • +1

Wow. They try to make fun of luxury brands but sell reusable shopping bags for $79?

    • +1

You could purchase luxury brand knockoff items (wallets, scarves, sunglasses) that only experts can detect for as much as one of those totes.

  • +1

Shut Suit up and take my money…

  • If they pay me for advertising their brand, then maybe.

  • The cups would be a nice buy without the aldi branding

  • Suitable for Crips?
    .

  • -1

They should have branded the clothing Albrecht Diskont.

  • +1

If cheap enough I might wear it for gardening or painting. They would have to pay me to wear in public.

  • good thing about kmart clothes is they dont have a logo, and no logo is kinda in style rn

  • -1

    Great more landfill 😬

  • my impression is that Aldi clothing is probably dumping excess European (German) stock

I'd be looking at the material - plastic is cheaper but makes me sweat (I really H8 sweating) - I'd guess it's unlikely to be natural materials thus the cheapness.

If it fits your body and your purpose, why not. Chances are it's better engineered than the fall-apart-after-first-wearing reputation of fast fashion suppliers like Temu
