  • How does this compare to Aldi's Expressi or the one that Coles sells?

  • +1

The Caffitaly pod machines are quite good.
MAP Coffee pods are designed for this:
    http://www.mapcoffee.com.au/coffee-guide/

Pretty nice and MAP coffee is sold at plenty of cafes. No one serves Aldi or Coles.

Can get a MAP branded machine with 2-3 boxes of pods from Harvey Norman, Good Guys, or Target for <$100.
These pods from Italy eBay are also recommended:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/80-coffee-pods-CAFFITALY-machines…

Bit pricey @ $55 for 80 compared to Woolies which is <.40c each
But I have no idea about the woolies ones.
Was looking for ground Woolies coffee so I can try some without spending on the capsules.

  • Saw one couple take one off the shelf and walk straight out the door with it….

    • you mean WITHOUT paying!!!!!!?

      thats "stealing" mate!!!!

      • -1

tell me about it. staff at woolies have no idea. which is going to be sad for everyone who wants one

        a) increased prices
        b) system saying there is stock but no physical stock
        c) woolies may stop selling these completely

i have news that the same thing has happened to coles as well =(

  • i was going to say dupe but it was on whirlpool that i was reading about this….
    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2000136

i have one of the target caffitaly machines. The gloria jeans pods are good (as good as the MAP ones) and at $7.50 for 16 they are better price (MAP is $6.50 for 10). i havent tried the woolies select pods yet but some in the whirlpool thread have said good things.

Needs daily cleaning? Meh *grabs the kettle

    • If it's anything like the Expressi that means when you turn it on, you press a button and it filters out water for about 10 seconds.

    • the milk frother probably but not the pod machine

    • +1

Instant coffee for anyone who drinks proper coffee tastes like tar. The point of these machines is they are 80% of a proper coffee's taste (my own bs percentage) quickly and conveniently and it is incredibly consistent.

The biggest gain after convenience I would say has to be the consistency. Rather than having fresh beans that gradually give less to a cup of coffee after they get older you have a stay fresh capsule that you can store and it will give the same taste on day 1 as it will in 6 months time.

One last thing, I can't speak for this machine but some similar ones do a auto rinse cycle before switching itself off after a couple of hours.

  • Not really a bargain as I don't think it's on special.

Shame I invested in an ALDI machine a few months ago otherwise I'd be all over this for the variety of pods available. Oh well, the Expressi still rocks.

but with this one "Enjoy real fresh coffee even on weekdays"!!.

      Weekdays!! can you believe it!?

        Its a brave new world.

        • +1

          It's a brave new First World! ;)

    • you can put gloria jeans pods into your Aldi machine.

      • I did not know this.. awesome :)

    • Not really a bargain as I don't think it's on special.

Regular price is $99, but is currently $79 (I get the impression it may be that price using Everyday Rewards card)

      • It is and you do and I suspect it'll be a standard thing. They would want to not only push these but a lot of people who have avoided everyday rewards so far who wanted one would likely sign up for it for a $20 discount. I doubt we'll see the price go back up.

Bought one of this, the Gloria jeans smooth pod are nice, home brand one will be nice if you like roast coffee. Recommend to buy this. Decent price for the quality till now.

I have tried MAP Coffee pods on my ADLI Expressi working fine!
Especially the MAP Chocolate pods which is much better taste and process on the Expressi than Expressi's Chocolate pods!!

    • Yeah the expressi choc pods are horrible! So do the MAP pods work on the expressi??? any equivilent to no.9 aldi pod?

      • they work but the pod and machine are different (caffitaly have the filters in the pods, aldi have it in the machine?), so i wouldnt want to completely swap to the other branded pods.

      • Yes MAP pods works well on the Expressi.
MAP have only 3.5 coffee selection (http://www.mapcoffee.com.au/buy-coffee/capsules.html)
        VENEZIA, PORTOFINO, MILANO and DECAFFEINATED.
From my 2 cents, their Milano is better than Epressi's Milano (no.10). But for no.9 I am not pretty sure as my personal preference is Expressi Renzo(no.8), rich of favors.

But will try the gloria jeans pods as I've just seems someone mentioned above and realized that exist! :P

  • Tried a sample of the coffee at woolworths, IMO it's pretty good, but yes you have to empty and clean the machine after x amount of capsules or it will over flow!

Hay SirFlibbled, don't despair! Gloria Jeans & Woolies Select pods both work in the Aldi Expressi - as do the MAP pods from Officeworks etc. The Aldi machine has a higher (better) bar rating than the Woolies machine also.

  • The Map pods' filters are actually back to front for an Aldi machine (pulled one of each apart and the filter is in the other end.

  • I've got the Kmart one from the last deal, and its brilliant. But need to find a cheaper place to buy pods apart from big W. $6 for 10. they take nespresso pods

    • Just get a Re-fillable pods from ebay, and buy your own coffee, way cheaper!

      • Why would anyone even bother getting a pod machine if they were just going to do this?

It'd be much easier to just use a traditional coffee machine if you were going to do this. It would be more time efficient too - time taken to load a standard machine vs stuff around refilling dozens of pods and then load it into the machine.

The point of these machines is convenience and ease of use.. why would you take that away? :S

    Thanks OP

  • I find this machine better than the aldi one, it feels alot more sturdier!

Funny thing, the gloria jeans pods tastes WAY better than GJs coffee!

    • compared to the new Aldi machine? I had the old one and it broke after a month. Got the 2013 version and it's a much better machine.

  • This site contains plenty of info including how to refill: http://www.caffita.info/articles/capsule-review/caffitaly-re…
Guy on that site will also help you get harder to find flavors if you can't find something locally :)

  • The Select pods are $50/kg, compared to $16/kg for the beans.
We use maybe 1kg/month, so that is $400 per year more than beans. (Nespresso even more)
I got a nice semi-auto espresso machine and grinder for a lot less than that (thanks to OzB).

BUT glad I read this, will buy their milk frother. The reviews are good, my hand-held battery one is useless, and the espresso steamer is too much work.

Pods aren't for everyone. For me, I only use it on weekends for 4 or so coffees. I prefer convenience over price (mind you price is still a factor).

  • can this one make long black?

    • and what is capacity of water tank? (I need it to be able to fill two 300ml mugs)

      • I need it to be able to fill two 300ml mugs

This is an espresso machine. You need a kettle, or maybe a drip-machine.

      • +1

It actually has 3 cup size modes - check the manual via the link to the products website :)

  • I'm curious as to how this compares with the MAP Bella. As well making coffee a key requirement is babyccinos.

I've looked at the Nescafe Dolce Gusto Piccolini Coffee Machine, but would prefer real milk rather than powdered milk.

Was just looking around for refillable capsules for them and came accross this:

    http://www.woolworths.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/website/woolwor…

  • Pro-tip: A dab of acetone removes the unsightly "caffitaly" logo from the front of the frother, maybe for the pod-machine too.
