    • Hey
I had two with simply energy and they honoured the $200 credit for each so far…hope that helps…
I called them up to confirm and they said yes.

Btw out of curiosity why 6 ha

  • What is everyone daily supply charge for electricity and gas?
    Mine with Sumo ;

    Electricity: 32c/kwh
    Gas: 3.4c/MJ
    Daily supply charge $1.1/day

    • Varies by retailer, location & plan.

Info should be available on govt comparison sites for your location.

  • Eligible Recipients will receive the applicable Card/s by email up to 90-120 days after connecting to the relevant plan/s.

    • Usual in these Deals. Takes time to be confirmed by retailer, before payout.

As in all cashback (referral) Deals. They payout only after they receive their referral funds from the retailer.

Signed up in Deal 90 days ago, just received my $150 card by email.
      (My 3rd time with PowerShop)

Gas takes longer to physically read & change retailer plus be confirmed by retailer - so up to 120 days.

But can switch retailer again before that. I switch every 2-3 months for next good incentive.

  • Seems like a good deal, though Simply Energy has a diabolical 1.3 star rating on product reviews so no thanks.

Considering you must give at least 1 star on product reviews, the amount of rating given voluntarily is really only 0.3 stars.

  • I smell a rat. In the T&Cs it says the "Mastercard Digital Gift card will expire 90 days after activation."

In other words you only have 90 days to use it. Why do this when you could set an expiry of 3 years instead?

A deeper dive into the T&Cs and I read this… "The Promoter… reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who the Promoter has reason to believe has breached any of these Terms and Conditions."

This and some other statements appear unlawful as they likely breach a number of Australian consumer laws and contract law principles. I refer Ozbargainers to this excellent resource called "Preventing unfair terms in consumer contracts" produced by Consumer Affairs Victoria.

    • In Econnex Deals posted by their Rep, these issues are usually better explained / answered.

"Mastercard Digital Gift card will expire 90 days after activation."

Until now, Econnex sent out Woolies gift cards. (Received $150 last week from Deal 3 months ago.)

Those had 90d expiry - from date emailed!! (So MC expiry is an improvement!)

Why? Because they were a Commercial supply used in promotions. Sent by Woolies. (Retail gift cards don't have an expiry date.)

Never had a problem using them up in weekly shop. But a common question in Deals.

Could be a similar Commercial agreement to supply MC with short expiry.

I also note that the CEO of "CIMET Sales Pty Ltd" who owns "Econnex Comparison" was involved with Indian call centres. I see that their T&Cs also allow them to use your details for other telemarketing.

I get enough spam calls from call centres as it is, so no thanks.

While they do say you can opt out, do I believe them?

    • +4

Ive been trying to warn everyone in multiple deals but i feel ozbargainers are driven by the incentives and fail to realise that cimet sales is potentially a shady buisness.

They also might be using our information to drive the business of the indian call centres they already own which makes sense as a few ozbargainers have commented recieving spam calls shortly after doing a search or signing up with econnex.

I feel the mods should so some investigation themselves and ban econnex if they find any truth to this

Also to note that iselect owns 49% of the shares, and these campaigns are probably part of the conditional agreement they have with them in terms of KPIs for customer signups, and might explain why they only send gift cards to a % of customers (as reported by ozbargainers) and hope the other % will just forget.

The CIMET Agreement included an earnout component for up to $3.6 million, which was contingent on CIMET achieving certain performance KPIs post Completion.

      • Thanks for your wisdom and good research.

Is there more we should be aware of with regard to these kinds of referral businesses eg iSelect and Campare the Market. They look like a fairly simple business model, i.e. the referrer gets a commission, but what's going on at a deeper level?

    • Never received any calls from Econnex in my years using their Deals.

      • -1

You wouldn't know. Shady companies can play shell games with company names. As a consumer you have no idea how your information is transferred.

        • You wouldn't know.

I wouldn't know… Econnex is calling me?? Which is what you replied to.

Of course like many other businesses, they could pass on my phone number, email & address to a 3rd party.
          We wouldn't know.

Seen no evidence that Econnex is doing that. Very quiet here.

  • From the terms and conditions…

If you transfer your service, you may have to pay a cancellation fee to your existing service provider, and there may be other consequences if you end your existing contract early.

If there is a non-specific cancellation fee and no locked in rates, it's a bad deal.

    • Doesnt sound like it was written by an australian as it would have had to be approved by their legal divison i would assume.

Sounds like its been scripted from one of their overseas employees.

    • Their t&c usually cover them for all possible services they provide.

So that clause is not appropriate for energy retailers, where no cancellation fee is usually charged.

More appropriate for Telcos & NBN services.

But could be charged in the future. t&c are not just written for current deal, but to convey all eventualities.

  • For my location in Victoria, These are expensive plans.. YMMV
Consider the cancellation/disconnection fee for Gas plans as well.

These plans are expensive when compared to the previous deal by econnex

    • Change of energy retailer doesn't usually involve any cancellation fee & certainly not any disconnection fee.
Check with your current gas retailer.

Most are more interested in the inducements to switch retailers, rather than the rates.

If they were cheap plans, there would be little reason to offer large incentives to sign up!

Regularly switching retailers every few months for the incentives can be rewarding! Staying short term the rates aren't that important.

I do it for profit. But it's not for everyone!

      • I think if you value your time at a $ rate it is logical to do this for all utilities, mortgage providers and insurances.

Usually the amount of time invested is minimal for the $ saved.

        • I go from Mortgage, insurances and utilities especially gas if i need to spend time on it.

        • Same with SIM hopping.
Been switching Telcos & writing about it here for about 7 years.

Little time invested. With profit on each new SIM (like with Boost Deals) it's even better now.

Caution! Assume your data provided probably isn't safe with them.
Recommendation: I'd use a spam email address (must be accessible as the master cards wil be sent here) and spare phone number (see amaysim $5 yearly plan), use a bogus DOB (but remember it just in case) and use medicare as POI (not photo ID, do not use driver's licence or passport!).
Also check your meter and know what you've already paid for before the switch date, to ensure they dont double charge you (do this whenever swapping providers).
If you already gave all personal details and licence, then keep an eye on emails and or mobile number for spam as that would indicate a breach of their servers, and get your licence card renewed by telling vicroads you lost it (I think $30ish for a new card with a new card number on the back. Front licence number stays with you for life unless for legal reasons)
Otherwise sign up is easy and they have been reliable in providing advertised mastercards and credits. Simples…

If anyone knows if using a bogus DOB would cause any issue please let me know.

    • Yeh it would as SE verify your identity via DOB and proof of identity provided

      • Yeah fair enough, do you think you could just tell SE directly that you made a mistake and have them correct it?

        • If they cant verify your identity on signup, it will reject it

    • Providing fake personal information at sign up is a risk & possible waste of your time!!
Likely a reason why people have complained they didn't receive past incentives (Gift Cards)!

Econnex passes on the information you supplied to the retailer.

(Econnex are a referral service, like other cashback sites. Earning money from the retailer AFTER a successful switch & retainment for a month or more.)

Your information is checked by the energy retailer.

If your information doesn't match your account records of your existing energy retailer - by law, the switch can't proceed!
There will be no $400 MC!!

      That could be a wasted effort & a disappointment 90-120 days later😜

    • Have you even checked what personal information is required in this Deal??

I've signed up so many times in Econnex energy Deals (last 90d ago, not this one) - without ever providing DOB, drivers license, etc.

Just provided the information from my energy bill (name & address shown) - needed to confirm you are the account holder authorised to switch retailer.
Plus mobile number & email for contacting & send the incentive to switch.

both supply charge and single rate per kw considerable more expensive than my current provider. Not worth the hassle

  • Will give this a shot. Hopefully gets honoured

  • I have just signed up for both electricity and gas.
However throughout the signup process, I didn't see the mention of $400 master card, only saw $200 credit for electricity in first bill.

    Is this normal?

    • +1

The $400 master card is offer by Econnex after 90-120 days, where $200 credit offers by simply energy from the start of the billing

  • Fark, forgot to use my last gift card 😭

  • Will take the punt and see, but boy their rates are awful. Almost 2x what I'm paying

    • Do you think the $200 promo and $400 mastercard will offset it by a fair bit?

      • I'll set a calendar reminder to switch after 32 days. The $200 + $400 should leave me with effectively 1 month of free electricity and the 2-4 months of free Gas even on there awful rates. Gas is fine, my bill is 90% daily charge but electricity is $200 a month so will need to get that switched back to OVO or somthing ASAP

  • Oh it is 9th..anyone know if I apply for it today il get approved for the promotion?

  • YOLO

  • I joined this but forgot that I have another property which is already with simply energy. So do I still get the credit ?
I hope it’s not for new customer only.

  • Received an email saying my application couldn't get processed as my meter tariff is not quotable with Simply :(

  • Simply energy is now Engie. Will this affect the credit and reward for the swith?

    • Nope. They have been engie for a while now

  • I have 2 units. One already had simply energy.
I signed up this offer for 2nd unit, do you think I’ll get the credit and master card? Since their rate is quite high and I will have to wait for over 3 months, I may have to switch to another retailer.

Their bill cycle is quarterly. So I won’t know if the credit is honor’ed until 3 months later.
