ANA/United: Sydney to Chicago or Washington DC $1313 Return (Sep-Oct, 23kg Luggage) @ Google Flights

240

Great prices to either Chicago or Washington DC, two destinations that rarely are on sale.
Dates are September and October 2024. These have two stops on the way, and one on the way back. The return stop is in Tokyo and for most dates is long (12 hours or so) so these would only interest someone wanting to take advantage of a night in Japan too.
23kg luggage included.

Sydney to Chicago $1313
Sydney to Washington DC $1313

Just being plugging in appropriate stopover Tokyo (1 week) and cannot get fare under $1800. Might be ok for Chicago trip, but a bit so so on Tokyo stopover trip.

    • For a week stopover, I'd through the ANA site rather than United, as fairly sure ANA allows free stopovers.

Yeah, just plugged (ANA website) in trip to Chicago with 1 week Tokyo stopover back in October and can get fare for around $1400. I think value is in if you can get stopover.

        • Its a good price to Chicago or (Washington) anyway, but yeah I agree only if you can make the Tokyo stop work for you.

America is so bloody expensive now with our weak dollar. Tips are 15-20% everywhere you go so things really add up quickly.

    • I really really want to visit the states this year to discover places I haven't been (East Coast), but this is exactly my problem - the exchange rate is so bad that I have been put off.

Been looking at SYD - ORD routes for a few weeks now.

The problem (for some people) is if it requires you to transfer at SFO, where you need to clear immigration, collect luggages, customs, and check into United, all within the space of 2 hours. I don't dare to take this gamble unfortunately.

I'd prefer to go to Schmicago instead.
