Apparently Ola is shutting down on 12th April 2024

Just received this email… I’m surprised that there’s nothing in the news about this…

Subject : Ola services will no longer be available in your area

Body :
Ola will discontinue operations in your area on 12th April 2024. This means that you will no longer be able to book any rides through your Ola app from that date.
You must not take any rides with any vehicle purporting to be an Ola vehicle or Ola driver from 12th April 2024. Ola has not authorised any driver or any other party to use the Ola brand or provide rides on Ola's behalf.

Your Account Information:
You will still be able to access your account information from your app and raise any queries or issues to our Customer Care team through the usual channels for a period of 30 days until 11th May 2024.
After 11th May 2024, you will no longer have access to your app.

Customer Care Support:
Dedicated Customer Care support will cease on 12th May 2024. Thereafter, any queries raised will need to be made by email to [email protected].
We'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support for Ola.

If it was on News.com.au it would be the headline “Shock as popular ride sharing app closes down”

      • +5

"Australians devastated as famous Aussie company goes under"

      • Beloved ride sharing app

      • +2

you forgot the extra quotes in title: "…Customers "shocked" as popular ride sharing app closes down…"

      • They surprisingly used the bland headline "Ola rideshare shuts down service across Australia" :(
Found a second headline: "Major Uber competitor abruptly shuts"

      • +1

If it was on News.com.au it would be the headline …

that can't be right. you haven't used any of the words horrific, heartwrenching, terrifying, tragic, frightening, outrage, astonishing, insane, harrowing or hilarious

You say Ola, I say goodbye.

    • +1

      You beat me to it…

      never heard of it

  • +2

I feel like I haven’t seen didi much around either too

    • It was spruiked as a public transport option in Adelaide, but not seen it anywhere else.

    • +3

I get emails from them even every second day offering discounts.

      • -8

I get emails from them even every second day

        You must be special.

    • +1

They threw me a bunch of 30% off vouchers about a month ago. Still going.

  • no great loss there

  • -2

Stopped using them when they stopped giving me free rides

    • +1

      Their loss…

    • Stopped using them when they were charging tolls during rides that weren't using toll roads (their stupid GPS system thought I was travelling on Citylink when travelling on a parallel road, on four difference occasions)

    …and stay out

  • Adios!

  • +11

People here don't seem to care, but it is important to have competition in the ride share segment.

Uber has already been getting worse and worse over time, if there's even less competition it'll just continue to worsen.

Applies to most industries. When masters was a thing I hated it because every experience I had there sucked… But now Mitre 10 is mostly gone, home hardware mostly gone, masters is gone, Bunnings has a monopoly and nobody to keep them in check

    • +1

Yep, I haven't used Uber in years, although I always compare pricing and I always get a better deal elsewhere. Didi has been great in my experience.

  • Ola bye

  • +1

Wonder how much they had to pay to the taxi group? Maybe they were next on the hitlist of starting illegal operations and saw it as a good time to get out.

  • It's not in the news because the 90% of the "news" is just slightly-reworded press releases from companies that certainly don't go on press blitzes to tell everyone they're shutting down.

  • +3

Get DIDI good car service for Sydney. Ola was always expensive by 20% and final bill is not what was expected or projected. So stop using after some time.

    • I agree. I swapped from Ola to Didi ages ago.

  • Godspeed

  • Why don’t people like them? That was my first ride share app to check then DiDi. They all have bad customer service I know that.

    • You get what you pay for

      • +2

True but they are all the same drivers so I’d rather pay less. The customer support is terrible on all 3 so not sure why everyone on here hates Ola.

        • You pay less = Driver paid less = Less care and effort

          • +1

@vodamerc: Yeah but half the time the drivers have all 3 so you’d hope they treat you the same irrelevant of where you ordered.
In saying that I haven’t had issues with drivers, other than their lack of common sense on the road haha

  • my app isnt working already

    • Oh yeah same.

  • Just got the e-mail with 5.5 hours' notice until April 12 :/
