  • My wife and I don't seem to get any of the marketing material from Costco any more. I don't think we opted out or anything like that.

Anyone on the fence about this, i can confirm this BLOWS your $99 kmart rice cooker out of the water.

    • +3

Anything blows that pos that I literally havent seen in more than a decade. That older design also sprays steam water everywhere around the appliance, so have fun cleaning all the time.

    • Is this any good for cooking Basmati rice?

      • +4

I have the 3 cup and it cooks all types.
Basmati, short grain, jasmine and brown.

    • +1

Try induction heating rice cooker and you will most likely change your mind again.

  • I just ordered this from amazon for $176.. lets hope seller cancels

    • 🤔

    • +1

Amazon has a change of mind return policy though

      • +1

That one is not fulfilled by Amazon though, if not cancelled, return will be harder and most likely incur out of pocket fees.

  • +3

Just a headsup that the "delivered" price from the Costco website is usually $10 more expensive than the instore price for this item, based on past sales.

  • If I don't have a Costco membership, is buying from cuckoo shop for $159 delivery included reasonable?

  • +1

    Showing up as $169.99

    • Same here

    • Showing as $134.99 (with delivery) for me.

12 of these with change, tis the ozbargainer way.

  • +4

Purchased this a while back when it was this price. Worth every dollar!!

  • We need something like this but my wife refuses to consider it on the grounds of teflon being bad.

Anyone know what the safety of these is like in terms of the non-stick coating? All I can see is that they claim it's "a non-toxic nonstick inner pot".

    • Same here. Endup getting a Buffalo rice cooker with a stainless steel inner pot about 4 years ago, after gone through dozens of rice cookers having non-stick coating coming off. Work wonders. Bit pricy and they hardly go on sale though. But was lucky then. https://www.unclebuffalo.com.au/products/buffalo-stainless-s…

      • Is the Buffalo easy to clean? Does the rice stick to the pot?

        • I have an Acook, I think the same thing as buffalo (maybe), stainless steal easy to clean, rice doesn't really stick to it unless you leave it there to dry overnight. Also chucking it in the dishwasher works fine.

Issue with ours is it takes a long time to cook (30mins?)

Also it was very expensive and the build quality doesn't seem that good for what we paid.

        • @OZBargainer in SA I was over the non-stick coating coming off in various brands so bought the Buffalo rice cooker. Not as easy to clean as a non-stick. Some rice will stick.
Advice from Buffalo is to allow the rice cooker to sit for about 10-15 mins after it has finished cooking and to turn off the power. Less rice will stick to the pot after this rest

      • +1

3 cups? What is this, a rice cooker for ants?

      • How long does your Buffalo take to cook the rice? I have an 'Acook' I think may be the same thing, takes bloody ages, maybe 30mins? Never actually timed it.

      • +1

I been using my cuckoo reguarly for the past 2 years and there is no sign of the coating coming off. I know exactly what you mean with cheaper rice cookers, but this shows no signs of peeling.

    • +9

Pretty sure the only issue with "Teflon"/non-stick coatings is if they're getting excessively heated up or maybe if they're cleaned with strong chemicals that cause the coating to break down.

Considering Australia allows PFAS/PFOS levels over 100* higher than that of America in our drinking water you're probably better off focusing on never drinking tap water.

Considering a rice cooker runs at a set temperature and you hand wash the bowl I wouldn't worry about it.

Some evangelical anti nonstick people will probably have something to say though

    • +4

It's a bit more expensive, but the higher end Tiger Rice Cookers uses ceramic coated inner pots. JPK and JKT

  • LOL the first thing my wife asked is how long does it take to cook rice.

    • This one does take a while from my experience. Not good if hungry now.

      • +1

There's a quick cook mode, which works well 99% of the time for white rice. Gets a 1-2 cups cooked in <30 mins.

    • +15

You have to babysit your saucepan on the stove though. Rice cooker you just press the button and walk away, with the added convenience of it keeping the rice warm until you need it if you want. I guarantee the rice will be nicer coming from the rice cooker too, no matter how good you are.

      • -3

I used to have rice cooker and wouldn't go back, so easier just in saucepan

        • +1

You must have had a bad rice cooker Mate! I've got a Philips rice cooker and that cooks rice to an acceptable level. The cuckoo is a much better brand so would be safe to assume the rice will come out fluffier.

I never get buying a washing machine, just bring your clothes to the river and beat the crap out of it with some rocks and rest in the sun. Couldn’t be easier better than paying for a washing machine and having it take up room in the laundry

      • +10

Same with installing a shower. I just bathe in the river downstream from all the people washing clothes so I don't even need to bring shampoo/soap.

        Hardly comparable

        • +1

          Totally comparable

    • +1

I always throughly the same but got an el cheapo one from Kmart years ago and haven’t cooked rice on the stove since. So much easier just throwing the rice and water and not having to do anything.

  • +4

How does this compare to Panasonic and Tiger rice cookers?

  • Does it work well when cooking only 1 or 2 cups?

    • I saw a reel where you can put the cooked rice into silicon jumbo ice cube moulds, then you can stack them in a bigger container in your freezer for easy portions. Just defrost with a little bit of water in the microwave.

      • +3

Was it an Asian nutritionist? Think I saw the same thing, and in the comments below someone mentioned how cooked rice (then cooled) is better because it contained more resistant starch - which takes a longer time to digest.

        • Yeah! Great for your gut

    • +1

yeah, mine works perfectly fine cooking just 1 cup.

    • +1

Yep, two person household here. Works great for 1 cup or more.

    • It works well. But you need to get the right amount of water. I’m Asian so still using the finger to measure.

  • +1

i am struggling to find a smaller rice cooker that matches the quality of something like this. can anyone share some insight?

    • Freeze your leftover rice, that way the size of the cooker doesn't matter so much.

    • This comes in a 3 cup version

    • I've had the 3 cup version for a couple years. It's excellent

  • I see it has fuzzy logic

  • +1

For those without a Costco membership, Bing Lee has it on eBay for $155ish delivered with a coupon.

  • Does this have the pressure option or just normal rise cooking function

  • Does anyone know if this is Uncle Roger approved?

  • The Cuckoo verses this from Costco

  • Very disappointed, it doesn’t play music when it finished. Might return. It does cook the rice perfectly though.

    • Yeah, it's a bit disappointing for the same reason. I missed my old N0681F model with voice navigation.
