Which Banks Offer Mobile Notifications on Transactions?

Hey guys, looking for a bank account that offers mobile notifications when money enters or leaves my account.

Been using ING/Bendigo, and both don't have that feature. Apparently, Westpac Choice does have notifications, but they also charge fees on international purchases, something which I'm looking to avoid as well.

Any recommendations much appreciated, thanks so much in advance!

I'm with Westpac and get those notifications, it's great, but also pretty annoying after a while, I don't need to be alerted when I nip out and get a carton of eggs. I wish there's a slider to inform me only when above x dollar value.

For international purchase, get a 28° card, free.

    • It also informs you twice when you transfer between your own accounts. Would be great if you could customize notifications

Yep, oh I got monies! Oh no I don't nevermind.

I understand why they don't do it, the masses would set and forget, then flood CS with queries later having forgotten all about it.

    • I have a westpac cc and get mobile notification as well

  • NAB does. There's often about a minute delay though, but also often it's instant.

I should have said the NAB app does, I don't know if they do SMS notifications. But the app is pretty reliable as long as you check you're signed in every now and then.

Macquarie does. Sometimes it's too much and annoying, but sometimes very useful. I leave it on.

    • I love it when the NAB app notifies you of inter account transfers, you move $5,000 between accounts and you get a notification that you just received $1,000, a momentary rush of endorphins before you realise it was the transfer you just made yourself a few seconds ago.

You move $5000 to your account but only receive $1000? That's a huge transaction fee, no wonder NAB makes so much money.

        • I got distracted by a phone call when typing that.

+1 for Macquarie. I’m overseas and the notification buzzes on my watch before the ATM spits out the cash which I’m always impressed by.

    • 2nd this as awesome choice. Add in the overseas lack of hidden fees. Finally Macquarie 2 Factor Authentication game is superior to most other options. It is a separate app. But if you're interested in sms alerts as part of security for your $$$s quality 2FA is a must.

Which banks offer mobile transactions notification, the Commonwealth bank.

  • CBA and St George do

    • +1

Don't think CBA does it by SMS, more like app notifications?

      • Oh yeah sorry, I obv read the post but not the title. Those both have app notifications, not sure about SMS.

Should function about the same in most use cases.

      • CBA does both, got one other day

Up seems to tick those boxes. Mobile push notifications, great FX rates and no fees on international purchases.

Use someones referral if you do end up signing up for that extra bonus $$.

  • Not NAB, never got it or was very delayed on iPhone

Bank of Nigeria. Just got a notification that Prince Mumba Jumba deposited $10,500,000 into my account. Just need to pay the taxes for it to clear.

    • +3

But do they also charge fees on international purchases, something which OP is looking to avoid as well.

    • +3

Oh hey sorry bro Bank of Nigeria here, forgot to send you the details for where to pay those taxes. Will DM you my BSB etc.

      • +3

Hi, ATO here, you will need to pay taxes on that, I will DM you my BSB etc (sorry, no longer take itunes cards)

CBA and UBank - money in/out notifications work well on both.

    • +1

go for ubank - instant notification for both money in and out
      - no international transaction fees plus great currency exchange rate
      - recently had around 470 aud in aliexpress brought to around 454 aud by paying in usd with ubank

      • +1 for uBank.

Notifications are instant on the app as soon as I make a transaction.

Sign up is easy and instant too

  • Just rtfm their websites as most actually do!

ING does have the SMS notification functionality, you just need to set it up from the website (not inside the app) on an account-by-account basis. https://helphub.ing.com.au/setup-and-features/savings-maximi…

    • ING have sadly gone downhill. SMS notifications will randomly stop again and require you to setup again. They removed it from their App so people don't realise this.

      • Set mine up in 2009 and haven't touched it since, and I receive the SMS on every transaction.

  • HSBC does

SMS could appear dodgy though….. thats why everything should be done via the app. Similar to the way AusPost is going, all notifications via the app rather than text to avoid dodgy texts.

I'm with CommBank and you just need to configure the app to tell you what you want to be notified about.

  • HSBC for sure!

OP can easily find this info via Internet. This post can be potentially social engineering to find out where people do their banking.

    • Not likely, but it does signal epic laziness

    • +1

      Social engineering?!?
Is there something wrong asking for peoples opinion haiyaaaa

      • You are not asking an opinion. You're asking information that's already publicly available.

  • HSBC does

  • Beyond Bank does.

Are you not okay with push notifications? If so I've been using UP bank app through Bendigo bank and you get notification for each and every transaction, including your automatic scheduled transfers, upcoming notifications that would overdraw your account and so on.

    • +4

No idea why mods changed the title to SMS, specifically was asking about notifications! Lol

      • Literally 1984

      • Okay, in that case give up bank app a go and see. You’ll get notifications for everything as i said before.

    Commbank and uBank

  • +1

ING does. As stated above, you just need to set it up.

  • As others have said CBA does, they had that feature for a very long time, I believe for over a decade. But their international transaction fees and rates are not that great, which is why I use Wise for all foreign purchases and traveling. Wise offer mid-market rates with minimal fees (usually < 0.5% for popular currencies), the best thing about wise is you can freeze the cards when not in use and obtain up to 3 digital cards and get them cancelled or renewed online/app very quickly. So its very safe and convenient to use. Transferring money between CBA and Wise over PayID is almost instantaneous too.

  • Up. Miles ahead for notifications and banking/savings integrations

  • Ing, commbank, ubank, westpac and probably 99% of the rest

  • Careful what you wish for..I'm really considering moving our banking away from Westpac, I can't buy a powerbank without my partner asking what I just spent 59.90 on..

  • +1

    ING definitely does

  • Suncorp Everyday Options account offers realtime notifications. No monthy/annual fees.

  • Virgin Money via its App
