  • Don't OW have to add the delivery charge if price matching?

  • jbhifi ad says online only, last time i tried OW pricematching they took off 5% but added shipping charge!

  • I wanna get one of this, anyone own it can comment on its reliability and speeds (connected to USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 machines). Thanks!

    • Not sure on reliability however I get ~20-30mb per second when using USB 2.0 on my HP Dv6 compared to 40-50mb on my sony vaio using the same USB2.0 port. Strange…

In regards to USB3.0 both my notebooks don't have one.

      • Thanks, is it too thick compared to normal 500GB one?
I got Buffalo 500GB, however the price makes me wanna own it :D

  • someone do a speedtest on usb 3 please

also these can be taken out for internal use?

    • 60mb transfer rate from a Sandisk Extreme SSD

  • -8

Why bother buying and breaking it open when MSY has a 1TB 3.5" Seagate internal for $77? I never get these external drives. Its cheaper to buy an internal and then buy an external enclosure (~$20) which is vastly more flexible than your typical big box store rubbish.

    • +5

      this is 2.5"

      • +4

what he said… 2.5" VS 3.5" no contest

  • Hmmm so if purchased from "OW" $150.10 will get ya 2tb(2 x 1tb drives). Would be nice.

Ahh but OW would have to do shipping as well…
Has any asked whats the best OW could do for instore price?

    • i'm very tempted to buy one myself

    • i bought this in store at OW for $75

  • Hmm sounds cheap, not too in the know with hard drives but between all the different external storage hard drives (incl within the same brand lines e.g. seagate, western digital) besides speed differences their quality is still the same righT?Any reason therefore that these seagate sare cheaper than say other seagate external HDD models (minus speed differences, more to do with quality/duarability/reliability)?

Pricematched @ OW this morning: Receipt
They had payWave too, so an extra 5% off :)

    • you're lucky as the OW staff you dealt with did not add the $5 shipping.

      • Just dropped by OW (Elizabeth St, Melb CBD) and they did not offer us what w8e2x got. Even when we showed the receipt that w8e2x got it for $75.05.
        They offered us:
        Price matched JB Hifi ($79 + $5 shipping) - %5 off = $79.80

Seagate Expansion Portable 1TB on OW shelf is $99.

  • I've got a 1.5tb of the older models of these and it's been going strong for the last couple of years. Good drive.

  • Do someone know the HDD inside? Is it a 7200rpm harddisk? Thanks

  • Can this case be easily opened? I need to throw the drive into an esata casing.

  • Just price matched this deal at OW also and they took 5% off the $79 without adding on the $5 delivery cost. Got two.

Note that there are two revisions for these drives. Ones is 22mm thick and the other is 1.5mm thick. If anyone decides to get one of the Insystem portable HDD cases from OW as well, the 22mm one will fit in but the space for the USB cable will be pressed against the case (you can tell from the slight bulge). I got one of each in case one batch is was faulty.

Part of me wishes I didn't buy the $187 2Tb WD Passport from Good Guys the other day as two of these seagates is much cheaper.

    • How do I tell from the box which revision it is?

      • +1

The side of the box displays the dimensions using a 1:1 side view - a really nice touch IMHO.

And that should be 15mm above, not 1.5mm. That would have earnt it the term 'waffer thin'.

  • Office works price matched and beat it by 5%

  • Does anyone know how this compares to the officeworks catologue today - 2TB seagate 'expansion desktop hard drive', $99. Says SGBV2000GB. Is this an AC adapter one given the title of this post has 'portable' in it? Just wondering given $84 (incl shipping) for 1 GB vs 2 GB for $99… tempting… anyone know better than me?

    • Yes, a desktop HDD requires an AC adapter. Anything with 'portable' means it doesn't need the AC adapter (or it shouldn't at least).

I'd personally go for portable unless you're looking at plugging in a desktop HDD and leaving it there… hmm, that might solve a lot of my HDD space issues now that I think about it. I only have a 500Gb HDD in my desktop PC and I do have a fair few free USB slots at the back of the case. Probably shouldn't have bought 4Tb worth of portable HDDs in the past week and just got 2Tb of portable and 2Tb desktop HDDs. Would have saved myself $100.

  • For those looking to price match at OW Punchbowl, don't bother. The stupid guy there wouldn't price match because he said it was contract pricing and that doesn't meet the price match criteria. BS!

    • If you have balls go talk to his manager. If his manager does nothing then talk to head office. If they again do nothing then threaten to department of fair trading or some consumer body for misleading advertising.

Office works that I've dealt with in the South Western Sydney suburbs are scum.

  • Went to 3 OW, even called one of the store up before coming in to confirm if they can price match for $75, they said no problem. Went to the store and they wouldn't do it for $75 and kept telling me about their policy, got pissed went online and bought the portable hard drive at JB online. What a waste of time, really dislike OW now. Their staff weren't even friendly, guess they have no standards when hiring.

  • Went to OW chadstone
    Got this hdd for 75
    Good customer service

  • Does anyone know if it's 5400rpm or 7200 rpm?thx
