The same people that upvote a $5 giftcard after a $200 spend from Amazon ?

      • +7

Gotta spend money to make money

        • Gotta spend giftcards to make money (…from cashbacks)

The poorest of us are on $250k a year, $350k if we have whirlpool accounts

      • +1

$350k if we have whirlpool accounts

        🤣🤣🤣

    • Not sure if any will. People having that much money wont care about saving via OZBargain anyway.

      • I can assure you that they care about ozb, prob more than anyone else earning less.

Jokes aside. Half a million pay cheque is actually not alot…

        • It is actually a lot. You will be in the top 0.2% to 0.5% of the earners if you can achieve that.

          • @John Doh: That is whats on paper before tax and other social benefits.

500k post tax is app 270k, add div 293, then MLS. On top of that, no any sort of benefit (e.g. childcare subsidies) etc. So 250k annual net is more realistic. The tax bracket hasnt moved along side inflation for a long time…

250k disposable is definitely not top .2-.5%

Getting ready mu pop corns for the comments ..:)

Grab another high yield investment to add to your collection!

Only BMW M3 and AMG C63 qualify as high yield investments

    • +7

Hang on wasn't it the MB C200 on the Junior Executive finance package for Big 4 analysts which was the OG high yield investment?

      • I though it was a low-mid spec 3 series Beemer?

        • +6

It was an A200 4cyl front wheel drive hatchback with the 'AMG' package. The epitome of aspirational luxury. All the plastic trimmings with none of the performance for 80k.

Could buy a used c63 and have 30k left over for maintenance and upgrades, but that isn't 'high yield'

      • +1

There were 2, one was the high yield investment Mercedes for $80k for Westpac grad, the other was "top of the line"A200 "AMG".

    • +17

No one said Tesla is the best

    • +5

Add a Lotus Badge for an extra $110k

      • Imagine the servicing cost, my guess $10k a year.

        • +5

not sure if being serious, but my polestar2 is free servicing for 5 years, and first service was 2 years after getting it, which ended up them just needing to check the brakes and tires (which were fine). electric car servicing is soooo much cheaper than ICE

    • +2

      Lightness must be expensive

      Lol the best haha

I'm waiting for the Chinese copy, should be out in 3 weeks under the name Notus and priced under 40K ;)

    • +20

Chinese copy of a Chinese copy?

      • -1

        Flotus Nestla

    • Hightus

    • +3

      Chesla

    • +9

Lotus is owned by Geely-Chinese car manufacturer
If you are waiting for a copy this is the one but a bit pricey that usual :)

    • -2

Thats the Xiaomi Tycan. All the parts you need will be readily available at the local wreckers soon. Enough media release crashes to date to supply the whole of Australia

    • With a free pack of prawn crackers to entice buyers

    • +6

Do you mean a US copy? cuz Lotus is already Chinese

    • +2

Xiaomi get annoyed at having other other Chinese knock-off their product, so advertise as genuine Xiaomi they don't like being copied which is satire at its best :))

    • +1

      From Wikipedia:

The Lotus Eletre was designed at the Lotus Tech Creative Centre in Warwickshire, England and is produced in Wuhan, China.

Which means it might be of better quality than manufactured by UK :) Chinese domestic market is populated by lots of look-alikes EVs (recently Xiaomi SU7) but I doubt many would get exported.

      • Geeley own a number of brands including Volvo

    • +3

?? Lotus is Chinese owned via Geely. The BYD U9 is more expensive again (USD quoted)

      https://electrek.co/2024/02/26/byd-launches-233k-yangwang-u9…

The Chinese are light years ahead in bring tech to cars, BYDs Leopard 5 top model has hydraulic suspension, something only found in a few very high end Porsche cars and has a 1200km range with its small turbo petrol engine that charges it's decent size battery for it's multi electric motors, if needed.

      https://www.chinapev.com/byd/byds-new-off-road-hybrid-suv-le…

we're seeing the transition of old school to the Chinese brands, much like we did decades ago from the old English cars to the japenese, similarly the Chinese have no legacy holding them back.

  • +6

Seems a bit jacked to start with.

    • +8

Must be the eBay plus weekend

  • What now?

  • +6

Nice! With the savings, I can now afford 980,200 avocados!

    • +1

      Cucumbers for mother's day

      • Cheaper than vibrator

    • But you can smash a Lotus much quicker than your 980K avo's

    • Thats the same amount you can fit inside. Coincidence?

  • +2

dam it, I just saw the price, and thought a car under $20k… lol.. then saw the brand and read the price again

    • Yeah, i missed the 0 at the end too

      • +1

Should have gone to specsavers first

        • Too expensive

  • +1

    great deal of the century

  • What?? No obligatory, down voted, ‘thanks got 10’ comments???

  • I can probably afford a hub cap but that's about it

  • +3

It looks like the Zeeker's, which are far less in price, same parent company in Geely.

    • +3

heard rumors about Zeeker will come to OZ very soon

  • Any cashback?

  • -8

Too much for a company that don't have the know how to engineer its own engines and just uses a Toyota backbone.
Charge Toyota pricing if you're gonna do that

    • +4

There is no Toyota in this car.

    • Toyota don't even design all of their engines. And you won't find any low volume performance car manufacturers under $1m that do.

      • -2

Ok just realised its an electric car. But still doesn't explain why a irrelevant old British brand should still charge this much. What makes these old UK dinosaurs worth 3x the price of a Tesla?

        • It's a chinese-owned brand. Consider that this is a luxury brand and apply economies of scale to your thought process and try to understand the pricing.

    • That's silly, if you put a Toyota badge on it, then you'll have to wait 2yrs before you get it

  • +2

I need "prices cut by up to $189990 now from $49,000 plus ORC" instead

  • +2

this post has inspired me to become rich.

  • +2

Reviews haven't been great - no where meeting the stated range etc (see Harrys Garage for a honest review and owns an Emira)

I just see how Lotus can make this leap from the Elise/Emira and of course their earlier cars like the Esprit and Excel which were all about handling through light weight etc… I owned an Excel back in the day and it was one of the best handling cars I've ever driven.

  • 😂

  • +4

    this or a house….

    • Depends how roomy the car is

    • +1

      House?

    • +1

You need 10 of these for a house these days

    • Not even enough to be a deposit for a house

  • +1

Quickly everyone, press the reserve button before stock runs out!

  • +4

Does this mean they were making at least $49,000 profit before?

    • +2

Same strategy like coles and woollies.

      • You're totally right. The big number put me off.

        • +1

Yup. 1/2 price specials are nothing but normal price. Same with this one deal.

  • +2

amusing that Lotus thought they could price it against a BMW

    • +1

Even more amusing Geely thought they could price it against a BMW

      • +1

Yeah. It’s entirely stupid. Lotus is not a luxury brand. It’s got no brand power in that segment.

        • If you look at lotus' other cars they compete with the cayman/boxster and 911

Same was said about the first cayenne

          • +3

@Save Medicare: Porsche has way more brand value than Lotus though. Porsche is iconic whereas Lotus is verging on being more of a curiosity or something for the hardcore fans who definitely don’t want this. Even the lotus motto is the complete opposite of this. There’s actually very few brands that would make less sense for them to do this. I can’t think of a brand that would be stupider to put on this when I think about it.

            • @Brick Tamland: Volkswagen vs Geely. So def in the same league as Poorsche.

              • +3

@Chinese: I wasnt talking about who owns who, it was about brand cachet. People buy a Porsche because it's a Porsche (even if some might be built on a VW platform). People dont buy a Lotus because its a Lotus, they buy a Lotus because of what the car is.

                • @Brick Tamland: Buying a Porsche is buying a VW except for the boxter/718 and 911.

                  • +2

@Chinese: As is buying a cupra, Skoda, Audi, Ducati, Lamborghini but I am no closer to understanding your point in respect to the lotus.

                    • +3

                      @Brick Tamland: I'm with Brick.
Lotus is racing pedigree for the purists, built around the "driver", insane handling, super lightweight etc etc.

                      This venture seems….. weird.

Bit like if Ferrari came out with a 7 seater people carrier van.

                      • +1

@Deviner: Lotus was all about lightweight sportscars, Lotus lost money for years under multiple owners. Geeley bought Lotus & the philosophy has adapted so the brand can survive but that means that they have stopped building lightweight sportscars, the Emira (which was more upmarket than previous) is the last ICE car & new models will be EV's including SUV's. So while Lotus is known for it's motto simplify then add lightness this is finished. While the HQ in UK will continue I suspect they will be more around design / handling / engineering & the cars built in China, suspect also the expertise will be used for the other brands under Geeley.

                    • @Brick Tamland: Porsche's brand value has been well diluted with the expansion of product line to boring passenger cars.
Not sure if it is still iconic per se, at least not what one have always know Porsche.

                      • @Chinese: Oh yeah, I think thats why Ferrari have not gone down that path. But Porsche havent always had hardcore only cars, look at the Porsche 944

  • +1

Thanks. I'm going to save so much on petrol costs when I get this.

Good tax deduction for the buddying uber driver

      • +1

        Budding*

  • First impressions of their website; it's sexy

    • +2

Sexy = high maintenance, easier to breakdown.

      • +1

I meant the website, not the car 😂

        • +1

          kml22 meant the website too

      • Like a good wife…….

Used to own an Elise back in early 2000’s, but then sold it when moving overseas for work.

Fun car to drive back then, but I don’t see myself throwing such $ on an electrified version.

    • This obviously isn't an 'electric version' of your elise. It's an SUV
