    • Eletre ≠ Elise

    • How was it? They've skyrocketed in price since covid but I've always thought about getting an Elise.. maybe some comments about the impracticality to talk me off of my ledge…

      • +1

Great fun car to drive, though back then I was single & also size S weighing 73KG's :)

I realise this is an electric SUV, but do we any more SUV's around.

Given the very limited number of sales this is probably going to have locally, I'd be looking at a more established brand.

        • Yeah definitely wouldn't get this, just always looking at those elises on carsales… I struggle to stay at 80kg and I'm quite lean so maybe not for me, I've never even sat in one but don't feel particularly comfortable in most small cars.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll definitely have to try and hop in one before deciding to buy.

    • remember the first Tesla was really an EV elise, yes there's one somewhere in outter space that Musk launched via Space X

  • Thought I read 18,990, got excited and clicked. Think I'll still to my petrol BMW 2 series.

  • +1

I thought it said they are $49,000, which I also cannot afford

  • I am here to see one of us pulling the trigger because they have been sitting on fence and thanking OP 🙂

  • I wonder if I can meet the repayment plans on 68k a year.. hmm?

  • +2

    Wow, 2.5 tonnes…

  • Have I somehow moved to an alternate universe? Is this OzBargain located in the high interest rate high inflation down under?

  • +3

And here I am waiting for Aldi to put their electric bicycle on clearance.

  • What platform is this car based on?

  • No SB/CR/TCB ? I'll pass.

  • Scanned my Woolies card, and bought 10, thanks!

  • +2

im humiliated by the saving alone…

  • I'll take 2

  • +1

    Mother's Day gift sorted

  • I choose Kia EV9 coz it's cheaper and 7 seaters… :p

  • I might consider one if it's the price for a Ferrari or a Lamborghini.

  • Still yet to see one on the road

Turns out the covid savings do run dry eventually

  • Insane price. Will probably make model X a bargain if it comes to Oz.

  • Thanks OP bought 3.

    • Only 3?

      • +1

Because he is WFH 2 days a week

  • +6

With a curb weight of over 2600kg, Colin Chapman must be spinning in his grave.

  • Oh what a feeling!

  • Looking forward to see 30k mark EV…

  • Thanks OP bought 5

    LOTUS

—> Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious

    • Not the supercharged 2zz-ge.

    • Not since they went with all Toyota running gear (in their ICE vehicles at least). Acronym is about 20-years outdated . Let me guess - Pretty Woman is your favourite new release?

  • With all these EV price reductions. I wonder how much these companies are building these for.

And if the Porsche Taycan cops a tonne of depreciation. I would not want to be caught dead buying a Lotus EV brand new.

  • +1

    Thanks ordered 2

  • Thanks.

    The savings is electrifying.

  • +3

Save an extra $9,500 via Officeworks who should beat it by 5%

  • +2

Nah. Give it a miss. Saving now for a flying car when they come out. Not a limited life old tech battery car.

  • thanks I ordered 2. Great addition to my Model 3 ahahahah

  • -1

    Great savings. Bought 2

  • That is a lot of coin!

  • Stupid posts like this needs to be banned. How is this a bargain?

    • $49k savings makes it qualify as a bargain

    • Oh well. So are all the Tesla ones.

  • +1

Hmmm, only 1 per customer :(

  • Top notch interior quality from reviews. Over the Benz ones for sure.

  • I need the much ballyhooed Chinese overcapacity to make this affordable for me.

  • Thanks OP. Bought 10.

    • -3

Yeah you aren’t funny or clever, mate

  • $279,990

    That's a lot of Xbox/PS5 consoles

Or $2 games of Street Fighter II at Time Zone :P

  • +1

"Grab another high yield investment to add to your collection!"

    I think not!

  • Imagine how many Ozbargains deals I would be buying from the money I will save from his deal.

  • +4

Sport SUVs make no sense to me, if you are buying a big chunky car why pretend like its going to be sporty or fun to drive… they always feel like tanks

    • Oh well. They sell well, unfortunately

  • -1

    EV? No thanks

  • Buy a Volvo EX30.

It is built on the same Geely EV platform. That is, chassis, suspension, batteries, electric motors. So its about the same weight and performance.

And its less than half the price for even the dual motor version of the Volvo. Just under $80K drive away.

Of course the problem with buying a Volvo is whether Volvo will survive. It seems to be having trouble selling its cars.

    • +1

I think Lotus will have trouble surviving!

  • Does it come with a charging block included?

Can I use my existing USB C cables to charge this or do I need the thunderbolt version?

Please don’t tell me it requires lightning cables.

  • +2

I'm happy to wait 2 years and pick one up for $119,500 when the 50% depreciation kicks in like a stubborn mule :-)

    Also price exclude on-roads…….

  • +1

Personal opinion: I don't think people who can afford this car would be looking for bargains online…..

  • +1

Thank you! I've been waiting for this car to go on sale…

  • 2.5 tonne lotus? Lol I'm sure it handles like an Elise..

    • Apparently it handles very well for its size.

      • Key word - its size.

  • +7

    No thanks…

A blonde teenager, wanting to earn some extra money for the summer, decided to hire herself out as a "handy-woman"
She started canvassing a nearby well-to-do neighborhood. She went to the front door of the first house and asked the owner if he had any odd jobs for her to do.

"Well, I guess I could use somebody to paint my porch," he said, "How much will you charge me?"
Delighted, the girl quickly responded, "How about $50?"
The man agreed and told her that the paint brushes and everything she would need was in the garage.

The man's wife, hearing the conversation said to her husband, "Does she realize that our porch goes ALL the way around the house?"
He responded, "That's a bit cynical, isn't it?"
The wife replied, "You're right. I guess I'm starting to believe all those dumb blonde jokes we've been getting by email lately."

Later that day, the blonde teenager came to the door to collect her money.
"You're finished already?" the startled husband asked.
"Yes, she replied, and I even had paint left over, so I gave it two coats."
Impressed, the man reached into his pocket for the $50.00 and handed it to her along with a $10.00 tip.

“And, by the way," the teenager added, "it's not a Porch, it's a Lexus."

  • Why so expensive

    OzRRP strikes again!

    • I didn't know this was an Aldi deal. You may have forgotten to read the deal too….

      Eletre – $189,990 (-$49,010)
      Eletre S – $229,990 (-$39,010)
      Eletre R – $279,990 (-$35,010)

Taking off up to $49k is OzRRP somehow 😐

      • -3

The cars don’t exist yet so only gullible people will believe they are getting a discount. When the cars land (if ever) the price you pay for the base spec is $189K. No one is paying $240K so yes, $189K is the retail price 🥴.

  • +2

I yawned uncontrollably when opening to the link to see what $189k would get me.

  • -1

Preorder a $200000 car and you browse ozbargain is that right or what. But then again the singer Cher was caught redeeming corn flakes voucher $3.99

    • +1

Oh sorry I didn't realise OzBargain was exclusive to those below the poverty line.

    • +2

I bought a $250k car, and I enjoy reading ozbargain. I probably haven’t bought much recently but I enjoy learning from the comments

  • Thanks OP, bought 2.

  • Hmmmm, Decisions , Decisions, Toilet paper or this 🤔

  • wait wait wait, im so confused, you guys are paying $189 000 for a car?

    • -1

Yea, cheap, right? Thoguht they usually start at 300k.

  • +1

    I’d rather Mercedes amg

  • Upvoted coz of the first paragraph haha

  • Look nice but I prefer to keep Urus.

  • -7

    not a deal

      • -2
        1. there is no mention of the original RRP on the website showing any cost reduction. you are getting this info from a 3rd party website

        2. three product is not yet available and is still in pre-order status, therefore this is still technically the recommended retail price

        3. the quality of the product is unknown therefore it is impossible to say whether RRP meets expected quality

        • -1

product is not yet available and is still in pre-order status, therefore this is still technically the recommended retail price

Not really. The pricing announcements were made months ago with pre-order books opened. With EV prices falling generally, and slow charging infrastructure, it's safe to say they overestimated their sales targets.

the quality of the product is unknown

Nobody can say long-term, but as a new car it is a known quantity. It's bloody good. Every review I've seen hoses it with praise. Here's just one, chosen because I like their website.
          https://www.topgear.com/car-reviews/lotus/eletre

therefore it is impossible to say whether RRP meets expected quality

This is plain dumb. The class, features and performance credentials are stated clearly on their website, and any decent review site. It's an EV alternative to ICE performance SUVs from Lambo, Alfa, RR, Porsche etc. The original $239K price was excessive, I agree. Among EVs, they're playing in the (from 220K) Porsche Taycan Crossturismo sandpit, not the MG4 one.

I understand it kicks off from GBP 91K (~AUD 172K) so this revised price isn't excessive.

Despite my disagreement with most of your reply, it's probably enough justification for the mods. But who really cares? It's all nonsense!

  • They can't even spell electric correctly…and for that reason, and that reason alone, I'm out.

  • At this price - I shouldn't have to charge it at all….

  • Nice! But for only a few dollars more, I'm buying a 3 bedroom house.
But if in Sydney, you could get one of these lovely vehicles with your house deposit.
Reckon the insurance on these would make one oblivious to the cost of petrol…or food.

    • -1

Lucky it doesn't use any petrol :)

      • Wasn't quite my point (insurance dwarfing other rising living expenses), but I take yours. Can't imagine anything lucky about owning one of these. The anxiety of a scratch in the car park, or a stone chip, alone would be too much. :)

        • -1

Oh this is the daily driver. I'd be much more concerned about the Bugatti or Lambo at the beach house

  • -2

I love EVs (even though this one has the worst form factor of all), however a reduction in an RRP that no one has EVER paid is not a genuine saving nor a bargain.

  • Would have bought a few for friends and family, but no blue paint option. For shame.
