  • Can you use any wood pellets, what's the prep time (is it like heating up charcoal?) and how much do you use per pizza or per hour, whatever the metric is.

Trying to work out the cost vs electric and gas pizza ovens.

Maybe watch this if you’re considering it

From previous pizza oven deals on here, people weren't a fan of the pellets, as they said it was expensive. Gas seems to be the way to go. I have a gozney arc, uses from memory 400g of gas per hour, and I'm done in about 2 per use.

If you're looking for a cheap oven to start out, go jumbuck from Bunnings. $200 and a great starter

  • This is a good price for the Frya 12. However, pellet/wood fired pizza ovens are more difficult to maintain a consistent temperature and could deter you before getting into making your own pizza.
If you're set on getting an Ooni, you probably want to start with gas so look at the Koda and Karu (with optional gas burner).
If you're considering this deal for the Frya 12, Stonex/Botanex have the Karu 12 for $429 delivered. If you find it too much of a learning curve starting out with pellets, you can get the gas burner (currently $151). The total cost with the gas burner is about how much the Koda 12 gas only is selling at most retailers.

Karu isn't pellets, it's wood or charcoal, or gas with the additional burner. Much better than Fyra

      • Touché, I didn't make the distinction between pellets and wood/charcoal. I have the Karu and agree it's better if only due to the 15 min gas heat time to 420 degrees, 20 min 450 degrees.

I’ve been using this model for a couple of years and found it to be excellent. The pellets I use come from Bunnings and are very easy to use. The advantage of using the pellets is the wood fired flavour you get from the cooking process with the pellets. It’s as simple as loading the pellet tray, lighting it up - I use a small gas torch to get it started quickly, then insert the tray into the oven and load the hopper. A hopper easily heats the oven for 45 minutes but you can keep loading it if you want. After 20 minutes the oven is around 400 degrees and will cook a pizza in a minute. Just my experience.

Gas kodi. Cost per session for 8 pizzas i worked out to be 50c for gas or something. Just make sure your production line is efficient and not too much non cooking time.
