  • Wat power plug does it come with? Do u need adaptor?

    • Says "120V-240V compatible"

So should be okay..just use a normal $1 plug adapter.

      • As below, you will need to get another power supply.

Got the non-wifi version the other day. After I upgraded to wdlxtv it is awesome!

    • yeah these ones are not custom-romable atm

  • +1

"120V USA power supply included only" makes me think this actually comes with a US power supply only. i.e. a US->Oz converter plug will not be sufficient. What Australians need is a 240V power supply or 120-240V power supply.

    • u should be able to get a decent 1 off ebay pretty cheap, still less than the $135 price these go for to make it worth it.

almost makes me tempted to upgrade from my Gen1 wdlive

      • +1

A decent power supply can cost quite a bit! Easily enough to bring the price of this unit into line with local retail price.

It would be useful to know for sure if this does or does not come with a 120/240 PSU, as the ad indicates it does not. If it does not, it would also be useful to know what the output rating of the original PSU is, so that we could accurately price a local replacement.

        • Just checked mine (Aus version)… It is rated at 100-240V 50-60Hz max 0.5A input, & 12V 1.5A output.
That is the one that was packaged with the unit here!!!

But I have run mine before using the UK adapter that came with the HD version which was only rated at a 0.5A output with no problems!!!

        • Since this is a refub, you can't be guaranteed what power supply you get. The fact that it's stated that it's 120V only makes me think it's not the original. It's the AC voltage of the power supply that matters, not the amps. A 120V power supply will simply not work with the Australian electricity system. I'd personally steer clear of this offer unless you have a 240V power supply lying around, or are willing to buy one (or if you can get them to clarify the AC voltage input of the power brick).

  • Are these ntsc & pal. WD site shows different model number for ntsc and pal.

    • I've actually never checked the Live version, but I also had an old HD version from the UK that followed me around the world… You just have to change a setting in the menu between the two!!!
Not that it matters on 'most' new tv's as they have both!!!

I have a "USA" version of this model it IS 120 & 240volt all I did was carefully bend the pins with a pair of plyers.

    • +1

      Are you sure that's safe?

      • call an ambulance…

    • -1

      ready for the bang?

    • I have been "bending" pins for years and have never had any problems.
You just need common sense… don't bend the pins right at the plastic case, otherwise you are likely to crack the plastic. Bend them slightly away so there is a gradual blending from one to the other.
If you don't feel comfortable, of course get an adapter.

  • +3

well he bent the pins nearly 90 mins ago……and he hasnt replied yet. So there's your answer.

this device is not good. Its picture output is not vivid compare to my LG BD390. The colour is kinda darker which makes the movie looks bad even though i used the same HDMI cable.

also it would not support .srt subtitle that is Unicode (for languages other than English). I regret bought this one. Thinking of giving it away.

    • +1

Have you got the .SRT folder{s} renamed to mirror the movie title exactly? I do this with all .SRT files and they work a treat on my WDLive.

      • Yeah, as above!!! Exact same name with the .srt extension in the same folder… And likewise, never had a problem!!!

        • Ps. Make sure you're not using cheap quality HDMI cables as there are known issues with WD devices using inferior cabling!!!

    • Try changing your HDMI cable.

  • I have one of these. A bit slow starting up and navigating but otherwise great little unit. Cheap considering how much it does. I got it for the Netflix app mostly. And very happy with it. I bought it from Amazon for $100 delivered. Oz version doesn't come with netflix.

vinhlong, i'll take yours if you want to give it away :-)

    • are you using a vpn?

      • Yes, going through unblock-us.com. Lets you choose what country you want to be in, lets you choose on their website.

        • just wondering, can you stream in HD? I used to run netflix through a vpn but could never really get a fast enough connection to even stream in SD so I just gave up

        • That would depend on your connection. I have ADSL1 and not the fastest pings either, and it streams quite well. I occasionally get medium HD on it. But mostly High SD. But its good enough for streaming. But I'm suspecting now, some of it has to do with the vpn's DNS and how capable it is.

    • i have the Aus version and it has netflix

      • Really? Out of the box or did you have to play around to get it?

I was looking around to see if the Aussie version has it or is capable of it. I got mixed answers, so I just went and bought from Amazon instead. And it was cheaper.

  • When it says stream iso. Can it stream 3d blu ray iso's from my hard drive or how does it work?

    • I can't say I've ever done it with ISOs because of their size, I don't have any!!! But it does full 1080HD!!! And once again, not sure about the 3D, if there's any decoding issues or if its built strait into the picture like older 3D movies!!!
But basically you just hook it up to your network and point it to a folder/s on your comp hard drive or NAS drive and click play!!! It's incredibly simple to setup and use. And if you setup a library, it'll retrieve the movie &/or tv show information!!!

Edit: I see nothing nothing on there about it playing ISOs!!! It plays VOB files, but I don't think it can read a disc image!!!

Guys, I'm pretty sure the adapter's rated input is 100/240V in & 12V out!!! The only difference is that it has the US plug on it, which is simply a plastic piece that clips on. I had a HD UK version one that followed me around the world, and when I got home I rang them to get the Aussie piece!!!

If you're still not sure, you can do a hunt around on here (OzBargain). You'll find that others have posted their receipts before, with prices as low as $99 brand new from the shop!!!
I took one of these in to JB and got the Live Streaming for $105 about 3 months ago now!!!
And after a mate saw mine, he said that he'd seen Dick Smith Southland were giving them away for $89 at the time!!!

Edit: Just read the listing a little closer, and it does say "(120V USA power supply included only)"!!!
So you'd be up for a power supply too!!!

  • Yeah the AC adapters tend to be rated for 120/240. You just need a cheap plug converter from ebay.

  • Would not recommended.

Bought this from eBay. Remote was faulty or possibly the whole unit. Seller would only let me return the whole unit. Which means the postage charges (has to be traceable shipping) would take up the whole refund.

    • Was that from this centrix-intl specific seller?

      • This seller. Otherwise I wouldn't have commented

        • Ah ok. I suppose that is the usual risk with buying from eBay overseas.

  • "Limited quantity available / 3,202 sold"

    very limited i guess :/

    Great price i must say

    • I've never had a problem with this unit…
But that's a lot of refurbs, and this is just 1 store!!!
      Quality issues???
