WinX DVD Ripper Platinum 7.0 (Win/Mac) for Free - Normally $45

AA-LERBKVJ-THANGAW

IMO quite a good software; was using the earlier version but new revamped version looks really good, supports many phones and tablets, was using earlier version v.6.9.2! I am not a software guru but you can either uninstall older version like I did and clean install this new version as it is NOT an upgrade OR just install this new V7 if you have no earlier versions installed and register the code before expiry date. I believe to be 27th Nov2012 but some below were saying for Mac Version is 30th Nov 2012.

UPDATE Amend: Been brought to my attention if you have the earlier version installed e.g. 6.9.2 Version or maybe earlier may be better maybe NOT installed this version 7Beta just yet. Wait until it is fully tested as is Beta mentioned in original post earlier. Apparently according to "vipulrm" below; version7 may not be quite as good and I may be a victim as well if that was the case …..sorry I was not aware of this and I am on holiday so cannot test or confirm. Had assumed version 7 is the latest and should be the best as per their advertisement but apparently it may not be so, so Caveat Emptor…..gee I don't know, I am not a tech Guru; all I can say is the free licensed ones ones from WinX touch wood worked for me for all my recently purchased DVD'so far up till V.6.9.2. If someone could test and advice V7, will be awesome. I am on leave on an ultrabook with no DVD ROM to test. If you never had previous version then you got nothing to lose as it is free anyway.
Sorry I am deleting some the the post to avoid unnecessary debate on being long winded ….bottom line is your choice like everything else in life. Cheers!

NOTE: I only backup movies that I own so I can use for my phones and tablets and for safe storage of my collection and convenience when traveling and I do not condone piracy as we would not have all the good movies otherwise!

Upgrade only? So you have to have a previous version?

    • It's the latest version or edition, but goes in fine as a first-install,
provided you install it before ~ 27 or 28 Nov 2012.

For anyone that's curious about the exact version, it's 7.0.0.

Strangely, after installing, the version actually comes up as '7.0.0 (beta)'. I'm just hoping it's a stable release.

Edit: Although I guess we do make very cheap beta testers :)

  • please edit the title for clarity, it almost felt like only the upgrade or the update was free. Thanks IVI for clarification in the comments that it's also Ok as a first install.

Handbrake does this job and is free. Are there any comparisons to make this worthwhile?

    • I didn't think Handbrake ripped copy protected disks.

      • +1

        It can.

AA-LERBKVJ-THANGAW worked fine for me (it's the serial quoted here and on their website).

  • Worked fine for me, quick download and registered immediately.

  • The website says 6.9.3 is the latest version

Maybe this is free because it's a beta version?

I ripped my videos with 6.3.5 and most worked fine.

    W A R N I N G

The last version of WinDVDRipper Platinum I downloaded was flagged as a virus. After that I'm not trying it again.

    • A response on that link to your post in February did suggest may just be a false positive by your AV to the downloaded zip file. Would expect others to have reported issue in nearly 1 year if was a virus.

Good enough reason to warn, but without any support for your wary AV suggestion of a possible virus, does not seem enough reason to neg.

      • I don't know the neg got me to read his post. I would still download it but its nice to have a warning that gets seen, kinda like Ebay feedback.

I doubt there is any issues as I installed mine with Norton Trust clearing it and Avast on another computer, what Anti-virus software did you use? Other's may like to confirm??

This version (7.0.0) is a dumbed down version of 6.9.x and is limited in the sense that it had predefined encoding profiles ONLY. I would recommend people who already have a legit (either bought or from an earlier give away) to stay away from this as you would be effectively downgrading. I burnt myself badly :(

    • Apparently, the customisations are still there but hidden. Unnecessarily scared myself. Sorry if I caused grief to anybody who read it. Kindly ignore.

      • What customisations are still hidden, how we can enable them?

        • In v6.x.x, all the customisations (bitrate, encoding format, frame rate, etc) were all available on one screen. Now you have to select a predefined profile which brings up the titles that can be ripped. Only when you click on the setting button on each of these titles do you see these customisations.

I think, in a way, this is good for people who do not know or can't be bothered with the details. Brings this software another step closer to "click and rip" simplicity. But certainly takes a few more clicks for the more advanced users.

Just use Handbrake guys. It's free and ALOT more reliable/faster than all these commercial tools.

    For protected dvds: http://www.howtogeek.com/102886/how-to-decrypt-dvds-with-har…

    • Did your Handbrake version work with latest DVD, just curious as if it does I wont mind giving it a go again as earlier versions did not work at all for many of my DVD.

    • +4

fair call/advice, but not really worth a neg i reckon…

  • Ok so I didn't have a DVD ripper and gave this a test run and I can say it worked for what I wanted it to do.
Gave ninjas scroll a test rip to psp res and did the job. Can't complain. Was using handbrake but failed at some rips.

  • Does anybody know how you'd rip individual episodes using this? Or is the idea to rip it and then use a separate piece of software to cut the thing into pieces?

  • +1

AFAIK once you get into the second screen where it asks you what format you want to rip to, if you decide not to proceed, then there is no cancel or back option and you need to force the program to close.

  • Handbrake is a nice free dvd ripper, you may download it for a try, it's totally free without any watermark and limitation
