    Good price.
    Paid $180 yesterday at JB.

    Must…resist….

If you need it, you need it.
If you don't need it, you don't need it.
When you need it, wait for it to go on sale for an even better price.

      • What about those who just want it? I'm like shawn_low. I really want this device and it's a sweet sweet price but I recently bought the Nexus trio (4, 7 and 10) and I'm trying to resist this drive but it's a really good price.

        • You always NEED more HDD space I reckon. It's only a matter of time when drives fill up.

I had like 3 X 500GB drives which filled up (music etc) and my 1TB portable used for timemachine backups, music and photos is already filling up. Ripping CDs lossless does that to you. :-) I know, I can get a 3TB desktop drive for around this price but I value portability.

@ragflan. Have you got the Nexus 4 and 10 yet? How are they? Got them from the Play Store?

        • I have a NAS with 3 x 3TB drives so my desire for the drive in this deal is purely 'want' as opposed to it being a necessity. By the time it becomes a necessity, I think these drives will probably sell for close to a 100 haha.

Yes, ordered all 3 Nexuses from Play Store. My Nexus 4 got back-ordered and is expected in the 'next 3 weeks' according to Google. I think I'm going to cancel and go for the 4G Note II. Except for the fact that it's a non-Nexus device (meaning slower updates), Note II is better than Nexus 4 in every way. Plus, sweet sweet 4G on Telstra. Nexus 10 should arrive tomorrow morning and from everything I've read, it's going to be awesome. Hopefully more tablet apps are made for Android with the success of Nexus 7 and Nexus 10.

Think of HDD space as cash. Value of it goes down over time, theres no need to buy a hdd if you dont need the space. Buy it when you need it months later when it's depreciated in value (unless another flood hits thailand :/)

        • That's what I'm thinking. Buying this drive for me would be purely due to impulse. I have 2 bays left in my NAS and I'm waiting for 3TB bare drives to hit $120 or below before buying them.

        • NAS with RAID1 or even RAID5 is a waste of space IMO. And not particularly safe for your data.

You're better off with a NAS with RAID0 or JBOB as long as you backup fairly regularly. That's where external 3.5" USB3 drives come in. Always have a couple of backups. Whenever I go to my Mum's house I take the latest backup there and swap it with the old one. That way there's always an off site backup that's no older than a month or so. This allows me to have the maximum amount of storage online on my NAS and maximum safety. If you have no off site backup you'll be crying when a thief comes and steels your NAS.

2.5" drives are great for portability and for connecting to media players.

    • I agree, I need a new drive but don't know whether to get this or a desktop drive. A portable drive is much handier to me.

      • +1

Well a 2TB desktop drive will cost you a lot lesser than $150. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think for a few dollars more, you can get a 3TB desktop drive. The main reason to get the drive listed here is portability and also because it's USB 3.0 at a good price.

Not trying to tempt you or anything … but I have one of these drives, it is nice to hold in the hand, and aesthetically pleasing too. Is amazing that 2TB of data can fit into this little thing, and has very good USB 3 speeds.

Remember that famous quote from Bill gates?

"640K is more memory than anyone will ever need"

Well it's not a famous quote from Bill Gates. It's a rumour. He never said it. You know why? It's short sighted and generally stupid.

He wears glasses for that now

like the coles song.. "Down, Down prices are down" gonna hang out to see if it goes more southwards.. great price but im after this delivered below $150 if possible. $7.41 saved is $7.41 earned.

Track it on CamelCamelCamel. They'll email you when it hits that price. $149.99 is the cheapest the drive has ever been though. It only ever hit that price once in early September. It sells for around $160-$180 on Amazon most of the time.

  • I own these from last sale - great drives, good speed, password protected - awesome!

U can buy locally for $165 with a bit of haggling if you need it now.

I have this drive and it works with Nexus 7 USB OTG, I was surprised the Nexus 7 had enough power to drive it but it works great.

    • +1

does it drains out the Nexus 7 battery a bit faster than without it plugged in? Anyway good to know as it means you can have 2TB of storage on the go with the Nexus 7 when you need it.

      • +1

        Yes, that it correct.

        • Does the drive have to be formatted as FAT though? Or does NTFS work?

        • +1

Based on my experience most android devices don't read NTFS formatted drives, so i doubt the Nexus 7 will make an exception.

        • +1

Wonder if there's a package you can install to enable reading NTFS?
          Linux can do it.
          Otherwise just format Ext2 FS.
          edit
          of course there is

NTFS works, definitely, mine is formatted NTFS.

So can this be powered without AC using a normal USB 2.0 port?

    • +1

      Yep

This is a portable drive meaning no external power adapter is required. It's powered by USB.

  • wow….

Bought this recently for $135, admittedly from Gumtree and admittedly from someone who 'won it as a prize'. Still, it was sealed and works great. This price is awesome.

Excellent drive, can easily hold a stack of porn for easy viewing anywhere anytime.

    USB 3 write speeds on a H77M-D3H with Win 8 Pro in a HAF 912 advanced case = 95MB/s +

Tried it before, some were lucky some weren't as lucky (including me). OW has inconsistent price beat policies which some wouldn't price beat overseas sites. So the employees get to decide whether to change the price beat policies as it fits.

Great deal OP I bought one of the 1Tb because I have a PVR unit which is limited to max 1TB but that cost me $84.33 landed here and the absolute cheapest i have ever seen on less of a quality unit has been $84.95 + deliver from $8.00 to $12.95 so thanks great deal also because I have spent hours on Amazon adding units to my cart only to find no shipping to OZ

  • How do we claim the warranty if we buy it from amazon??

    • Quite sure WD comes with international warranty that you can call your local support centres for repairs or replacement.

  • Got one, thx op
