  • Partner applied almost 3 weeks ago and hasn't heard back. Anyone know what the direct number is for the approvals team?

Called 13 33 33 (listed as New Credit Card Applications number on ANZ website) but the lady was clueless and just stated the obvious, that it's under review.

Would like to give it a nudge - lots of anticipated spending with upcoming Black Friday sales and festive season.

    • 3 weeks?? That's a long time to process the application. I applied yesterday and submitted the payslips. I haven't heard anything yet,

    • It took two days to receive the approval email after sending payslips.

  • I got approval several days ago. Will close when points are received 😁

    • That’s the plan. This card is never worth keeping.

  • -1

Never dealt with Qantas points before. Any best way to cashout or to spend with points straight away like everyday rewards points? Only after the %.

  • Be careful, VicRoads rego doesn't count towards the minimal spend.

    • Can we pay by BPay through Zip Pay?
Then charge Zip Pay card using the ANZ card

      • Yeah the BNPL stuff still for works for now /knock on wood. RIP Beem.

    • Wow, seriously? Isn't that just a financial transaction? Thanks for the heads up. Having these sub transactional rules is just bizarre. Cash advance I understand, but every transaction should just be a transaction.

      • Isn't that just a financial transaction?

Government spend (from local rates to state rego up to ATO stuff) has pretty much always been excluded from both points and the minimum spend criteria since the beginning though? Think only AMEX was allowing points for paying tax to the ATO for awhile there if they haven't stopped it.

  • Was a nightmare 2 week operation to get this. After being with anz already once this year on the other card which I cancelled in July.

Now suddenly, 3rd degree. Proof of closure of my 15k NAB card I just closed. Sorry, I need to see the statement as well, to confirm zero balance. Now even though you sent 2 payslips, we need to see 3 months of statements, all of a sudden. Sorry, still not enough - Now we need to verbally confirm everything you already listed as expenses in the application. Just never ended

ANZ used to be my go to for points churning. Applied 3 weeks ago and ended up cancelling the application after more than 8 calls questioning everything.

Until they fix their application process, I'd strongly recommend going somewhere else.

Highlights for me were explaining what childcare is and why I spend so much on if a month, what a bonus is and why it's not in every months payslip and that my joint account with my partner is for both me and my partner.

  • ANZ sucks in terms of application and checks. the bonus points have reduced quite a bit (plays min spend for the reduced fee), will pass on this deal

  • Eligible if have an ANZ Rewards credit card?

  • Deals are getting worse by the day. I stopped getting CC’s for points 2 years ago.

Accumulated around 600k quantas point before that. Good days are over

  • If the $5k spend is too great for some people, check out this ANZ card post with only $3000

  • This card is a nightmare to get
Tried to get this, after 1 month back and forth, i gave up

  • Just got approved for this card churning from Amex. I think now they want to know in details your expenses and called me to reconfirm the details and put me on hold for a couple minutes while they were making the decision.

  • Amazingly bad application experience. Was declined for the Black card, and offered the Platinum instead. Started asking for some feedback on why I was declined for the Black (for future reference), to which they couldn't give an answer. When I started questioning how that was, they re-reviewed and the 'system' apparently suddenly decided I wasn't eligible for any ANZ card.

Income in the top 5%, Sydney house with LVR under 15%, substantial share portfolio and 6 figures in savings account, currently Westpac Black card…. and the ANZ representative decided I not eligible for ANY card…. yep that is a system that works well.

    • I believe that some banks are starting to burn churners but I’m not sure how legit that is. Just what I’ve read on here and Whirlpool.

I was in a similar boat late last year applying with Westpac for the lowest limit they’d give me.

50% LVR on a house (400-500k equity), 500k in super, 150k in savings, a single car loan of 50k and no other credit cards and initially got rejected until I questioned it.

They said that my Salary was too low because my NOA said I only earned ~140k PA. They couldn’t fathom the ~40k deductions I’d had and the 20k or so I get paid tax free annually. After spending about 20 minutes on the phone trying to explain why some items on my payslip are tax free I finally got approved but (profanity) me it was difficult.

  • Hi peeps

I used sniip to pay off some of my hecs and meet the spend criteria, my question is has anyone paid hecs this way and still earned the bonus rewards points.

Also my card got approved in early December but my statement period is already showing in my app from 17-Nov to 17 Dec

Shouldn’t a statement period be 30 days from approval date?

    Thanks for your help

    • I had same issue with first statement covering a period starting 2 weeks prior to the card being approved. Caused me to miss the repayment date as I was not checking for the statement. Spent an hour on the phone to be told that "this is just the way the system works, can't be changed".

    • Shouldn’t a statement period be 30 days from approval date?

That would be logical but banks aren't bothered about logic.

My first statement for a recent CommBank card was for a grand total of 10 days, for which they charged the monthly fee.

Meanwhile my first statement for a recent Qantas Money card was for a period of 35 days lol.

  • How long does it take to get the $200 back ?

    • "The 90,000 bonus Qantas Points and $200 will generally be credited to your ANZ Credit Card Account within 3 months of meeting the spend criteria."

  • ANZ: Upload your documents…
ERROR: The file name cannot contain SPACES!!
    FMD

  • Does anz ask for 2 or 3 last payslips?

    • If your income isn't paid into an ANZ account then it's payslip(s) covering 3 months of income OR your most recent bank statements showing 3 months of income.

  • Great. Thank you very much

  • Can someone please advise if there's much difference between letting anz log into my cba account (where my salary is paid) during the online application stage, compared to uploading 3 months of payslips. My payslips vary and are complex. I always have to explain them.

  • +1

Interestingly, I got 2 lots of $200 back labelled as ‘promotion’ after hitting the spend (45 days)

Got the 90k points on first statement too

  • Hi all, I need a pro-tip for credit card application. My applications have failed in my attempts.

Is there a category not to enter or should be entering less for to make me quality?

  • +2

Seems like they have sneakily changed their terms and conditions, the cooldown period now is 24 months instead of 12 months, and they’ve combined rewards and frequent flyer into a same category.

Point number 2 of the t&c
You are not eligible for this offer if you currently hold or have held an ANZ Frequent Flyer or ANZ Rewards credit card in the last 24 months.

PSA: You are not eligible for this offer if you currently hold or have held an ANZ Frequent Flyer or ANZ Rewards credit card in the last 24 months.

  • Applied my card on 29th April. Still waiting approval. At that time it still had the previous T&C. Once approved, will my application still follow that T&C??

    • Card approved today.
ANZ cannot confirmed yet if I'll be eligible for the bonus offers (points + $200 credit).
They need to further follow up for confirmation…
      Fingers crossed

      • I applied and got approved in March. $200 bonus has been applied this month so it seems it's okay.

        • In my situation, the terms changed few days after I applied, before my card got approved.

Applied on 29th April, approved today.

I would be eligible for the bonus offers under the original terms when I applied but not on the current terms.

          • @gembel: Pretty sure it's based off the application date not approval date.

  • For the homies; I got my cashback a day or two after hitting the eligible spend, so it seems to be a decent indicator of when you’re there. I’m now waiting for the QFF points to land so I can cancel and let my credit cool for a bit. Anyone have any experience as to how long that takes?

    • hitting the eligible spend

How long after approval was this? From previous experience ANZ holds off until at least the 2nd statement before giving out the cashback and sign up bonus. So you should be getting the points in the upcoming statement.

      • +1

        Approved around 9th March
        Eligible spend 2nd May
        Cashback received 2nd May

I know my last statement was 24th April so hopefully 24th May will see them land…

        • Do we get notified when the points are allocated?

          • @Duece1995: I don’t believe so but it’s been a while since I’ve had any come in for QF. Maybe the app notifies you?

I’m checking my balance daily anyway, to see when I can dump this card.

  • Update. I got my 90k points allocated. I received the points at the end of my 2nd statement period after hitting the $5k spend. I'm actuality thinking of keeping the card given I'll get an additional 40k points after 12 months and getting rid of my Westpac Altitude rewards card instead.

    • 40k points after 12 months

That's after they charge you the annual fee again and without any cashbacks.

      • Yes I know I'll be charged another annual fee, but i like the fact it gives you 1 QFF point per dollar spend. I can always cancel after 12 months and request a refund of the annual fee after the bonus points have been allocated.

        • How and when to request the second year annual fee refund? Thanks

    • they asked for the QFF number when I applied

        • online

    • You can call them to link the QFF to your account.

  • Is chasing Qantas points now a matter of habit? They're effectively useless

    • +2

If you must fly to a certain destination on a certain day then yes useless. But if you are flexible then definitely not worthless. I’ve flown business class to Japan, Bali, Athens, Rome, Hong Kong, Dubai in the last 2 years all on qantas points

      • Not to mention you're simply getting this as a bonus for your everyday expenses and bills etc etc. Not like people are literally going out of their way to buy points for $1/pt or something.

  • Anyone received the 90,000 Qantas Points after reaching the 5k spend?

    • I did, no issues.

      • How many weeks after reaching the $5k did you receive the Qantas points?

        • Qualified in the first statement, points and bonus landed after the 3rd statement.

          • @HHH-888: Ok thanks, I qualified in my 2nd statement. So still waiting

  • they rejected me last time i applied :(

  • How can I check how many points required for upgrading Sydney to London flight from Economy to Business class? Thanks

    • +1

It depends what fare you're requesting to upgrade from (and you can't request at all if you've booked discount economy international), and whether the flight is before or after the upcoming August changes to the QFF program. These negative changes include an increase in the amount of points required to upgrade.

Refer to the tables of Points needed for an International Classic Upgrade Reward to Business. You can use the Great Circle Mapper to calculate which distance zone your flight(s) fall into.

Importantly, you need to be realistic about the odds of successfully requesting an upgrade, especially on popular routes and especially if you are not a high status flyer. You should never have high expectations.

  • in the last 24 months…..

    • yes this is noted in OP post now

  • Received 2x90k points, then a $200 charge for the mistake.. still worth it

    • +1

      how do you get 2x90k?

    • An additional 90,000 points for $200 is great. But what was the $200 charge?

I would have thought if they detected the mistake they could just reverse the additional points.

      • yes we will all like to know how you got this.

so sounds like they gave you 2x90k points, then for the mistake kindly gave you $200 credit and did they reverse the 90k points too?

      • I mean unless it's the bank's own rewards system or came directly from QANTAS, once it's in your QANTAS account it seems to be pretty much irreversible at least from observations over the years. eg people commenting about doing refunds on their minimum spend after closing their cards etc.

    • +1

It was a mistake by the bank. I used the 180k points pretty much immediately as they showed up. A month later ANZ sent me a letter saying they detected error and charged $200 fee and I could keep the extra points.

I suppose ANZ probably can debt points as those are owned by qantas

      • It's certainly possible for points to be reversed, though rare. Here's an example from June 2024 affecting some Bankwest customers.

Charging you a fee for an error they made would potentially put them on shaky ground, so I would have thought reversing the error would be generally easier/preferable for them, even if it incurred some headache and cost.

It'd be interesting (but impossible) to know whether they did want to do a reversal but couldn't because you had already used the points, or whether they hadn't considered it at all.

Either way, a good outcome for you.

  • 2 more months until my 24months is up, hope this offer is still up!

    • yep im on the st george platinum card atm and then i'll revert to this one in the next cycle of bills i need to spend for lol

  • Qantas points are bloody useless these days. It's a miracle if you can find anything decent to redeem especially during peak times. Haven't had an issue with Velocity. Velocity ftw.

    • yeah qantas is tight arse indeed

    • I mean nothing stopping you from accumulating both or more at the same time. Also wrt seats really depends on your destinations and how savvy and time-sensitive you are. And why would peak season seats ever be easy to book? It's like those commenters on iwantthatflight/beatthatflight deals asking for school holiday deals 🙄.

      • Peak season seats are easy to book on Velocity, why shouldn't they be on Qantas too?

        • In that case which destinations? And how far ahead of time do you need to make the booking? Like I said I collect both anyway so this argument is no skin off my back, just funny to see people treat this like a team sport where they gotta cheer for one airline over another lol.
