[Refurbished] Citrix SD-WAN 1100 Atom C3758 24GB DDR4 ECC Router $256.00 ($249.6 w/ eBay Plus) @ ACTnetworks eBay

NONFY20PLUSF22

Original Coupon Deal

With 24GB of ECC ram, this is a beast of a router. Far more capable than all of the consumer-brand stuff that gets posted around here (TP-Link, Asus, D-Link, etc). Apparently it only consumes between 10-20W on idle too.

If you desire proper intrusion detection and enterprise grade security for your home network, look no further.

When would a router be idle

    • +2

When it's not passing a high volume of network traffic, i.e. no clients actively uploading/downloading

Fewer packets = less CPU load = less power consumption & heat

    • +1

About 95% of the time, for most home users.

Mine tops out at around 8% utilisation under load because it's not doing anything fancy.

this is an absolute over kill for home use, but for small to medium office ,, also note that "OPNsense installed. No longer runs the Citrix SD-WAN Software."

a good thing.. no one should be running an un supported citrix anything

  • Extremely cheaper for what you’re getting

  • Tempted to get this but my aliexpress pfsense box is still running fine. :(

    • Any links?

This or the n5105 version for a bit less

        • thank you

          • @Thedesishopper: N100 version or n5105 with 8gb and 128ssd. I have had n5105 with some ram and ssd pulled out of a dead laptop and has been going strong for well over a year. I'm using opnsense with gig fibre, QoS, crowd sec and unbound for ad blocking (like pinhole), toyed with Zen armour but found it unnecessary.

      • The generic topton, tomtop, whatever tom's box there is. They're all the same thing. I bought it over a year ago but with the RAM & disk, it costs more if not the same as this piece.

  • thanks bought one for my SME.
    now to learn OPNsense

  • The RAM is probably worth more than this.

    Specs???

Great, it's got a lot of RAM.
Ethernet port amounts and speeds are a 'little bit' important for a router, no?

  • Only 5 left.

  • What wireless adaptor would you pair this with?

    • The bundled OS is famous for not playing nice with wifi adaptors.

"My router has more memory and storage than the entry level MacBook Air M3"

  • Anyone got a pinout for the RJ45 serial port? Hoping its Cisco et al.

    • +1

I messaged the seller about this and they were happy to throw one in for free.

      • Mines already with the courier - hopefully it’s included.

  • 40mm fan. Will be annoyingly noisy. If you bought one just make sure you have it somewhere where you don't mind a bit of noise.

Edit: I can't seem to find the environmental data on the 1100 anywhere. In my case, the quietest 40mm fan I could find with the relevant cooling performance emitted an annoying whine. It's the main reason I'm running opnsense on a micro pc instead.

    • I replaced the 40mm fan on my switch years ago because it was failing. Whatever random fan I slotted in was totally fine.

I would not expect a 3000rpm fan to come on one of these, it'll be something slow.

  • My order just arrived. Looks new and works fine. Thinking to use proxmox + pfsense etc.

    • Did you get a serial cable for OS installation?

    • Which port is LAN?

    • Any chance you found any newbie guides you could share please?

      Not sure where to start

      • I just set mine up, it's tricky and to be honest I ended up doing it in a pretty hacky way, installed USB on my laptop then attaching to 1100 due to proxmoxVE not supporting serial by default.

Did you end up getting yours sorted?

        • Not yet. Project for a rainy day.
          Busy with EOFY currently

        • Odd, I used latest iso, (using etcher to whack it on a usb stick) and it specifically has an option for serial install. It worked fine without any drive swaps. Even better - it outputs console to serial with no mucking around after install too.

One tip, change the BIOS baud rate (in the bios config pages) to match proxmox, 115200 - that way you can see post and proxmox without reconnecting

Mine arrived yesterday. They packaged it with a Fortinet Serial to USB cable which works fine.

Initial thoughts: holy moly that fan is loud. Going to have to install a Noctua fan at some point, although it's ridiculous they charge $30-40 for a single 40mm fan. Does anyone have experience with the cheaper $5 "silent" 40mm fans on ebay? Are they actually quiet?

I'm going to install Proxmox on mine because there's no way I'm using 24GB of ram just for pfSense/OPNSense. Will probably run Wireguard and an additional media server on this, although I do wish it had an integrated GPU for transcoding.

    • I didn’t get a cable with mine but I had one already,

I was able to go into the bios and change the smart fan speed - changed the first pwm thing from 40 to 20 and it’s much quieter. Not sure how hot it runs yet

      • Thanks for the tip saved me a few minutes looking for the same.

        • So after having it a bit I think I’ve had better results with it in my cupboard putting the speed back, but upping the temp by 5 degrees for all the values except the critical. Still testing this config will know how it goes in a few days.

I did try a Noctua 40mm fan, running at 100%, but it was cooking with that so I put the stock one back in.

Turns out the stock fan is an 18,000 RPM job that moves a lot more air than Noctuas. It’s a Sunon pf40281b1-q000-s99
