    Australian RRP is $999 FYI

    • Thanks sparky13 for that comparison.

    • +4

Yeah what a load of bull right. $400 difference.

Also, be aware that on the SurfaceRT it was found that ~16gb out of the 32gb flash mem was used for the RT system files alone.

  • +2

Remember that the Tablet only has 16GB of free Space, the other 16GB has been taken up by the OS and Office.

    • +1

damn. you beat me by 11s

    • +5

      remember it has expandable memory

its much better value to pay less for smaller storage and buy cheaper expandable and swappable storage for your media. The purpose of this device wont require any more than 64gbs in the first place

If it's converted from USD to AUD using currency tab at the bottom of the page,
    the price becomes: $529.02 + $56.53 shipping = $585.55

  • Does BH sell the x86 pro versions?

    • No one does, at this point. I believe the release date for the Surface Pro is early next year.

      • oops i meant asus vivo tab not the surface pro

        just checked pre order only

        • Ah, sorry, I assumed the OEM x86 tabs would only be available after Surface Pro launch.

    • Just Windows RT, not Windows 8 RT. If it had 8 there would be some benefit, but with RT I agree this is a sunk product. Doesn't mean the deal isn't good if you were super keen though.

Have you actually used the TF600? It's a dream to use.

      • then do you mind sharing your dream to us? that's what I am asking

        • +3

It's not a dream of mine, its a fluidity in function. It's user interface is more effective than I thought it would ever be, and it has me looking at future developments utilising the Windows 8 RT with keen eyes.

Before playing with one, I had pretty much written the platform off. Now, I'm waiting to see what happens next. If I were to buy one, I would wait (for some of the issues you outlined, namely: app availability, pricing etc.). As it stands now, there is nothing wrong with the platform, or its usability, I'd just wait until the prices mellow out a bit more (bit like what happened with the first ultrabooks). But look, I could sit here all day talking about why I like the product (when I wasn't expecting to), but if you truly want to give any of my comments credence (or get any answers to your own questions) walk into JB or HN and play with one for an hour.

        • it certainly looks promising, the UI looks great and multitasking on RT is very enticing. i think i'll wait for the windows 8/RT/WP8 ecosystem to mature a bit before jumping ship. at the moment it's still better sticking with android/ios in terms of cost effectiveness and app support

  • The specs are fairly underwhelming… probably better to just stick with Android, at least until WinRT matures a bit (and better devices come along for a more reasonable price)

am I the only one who when I see "Windows RT" I think "Windows Re-Tweet"?

    No?

    OK, just me then…

  • i would love to buy one, but im waiting till i find a tablet which has more gbs
    any recommendations?

    • +4

Buy a 64GB class 10 microSDXC card for around $60 and put it in the tablet.

      • awesome suggestion, cheers :D

  • +1

just remember people, you cannot install any app you like onto the RT device like normal windows. You are limited to whats in the windows store only (& Office). For you to have true freedom, you will have to wait for Surface Pro next year.

    thanks

    • IMO, better have WINDOWS 8 instead of RT, as the limitation of the app you can install.

Waiting the price drop for TF810C, that is better, with super IPS display and windows 8, plus Wacom digitizer stylus, thats my dream next tablet+notebook :)

      Mwave have it for $965

  • The Free Keyboard Docking Station might not be included automatically. Normal US customers can claim/redeem it once they've got the table. More info can be found here http://event.asus.com/Vivotab/Mobile_Dock/ . You'd better double-check with B&H before deciding.

From B&H website "What's in the Box":
ASUS VivoTab TF600 10.1" Tablet with Windows RT

      ■ Limited 1-Year Warranty

      Included Free
      ■ Keyboard Docking Station for TF600T 10.1" Tablet (Gray)

  • Surface or this?

    • Surface comes with 2 year warranty, some others reporting 3 year warranty.

  • Just a dumb question… can I claim GST back on this? Or is this already an import from overseas?

    • Er, price in USD, link goes to store in New York City, and OP says "reputable overseas supplier".

  • So now we know. we are getting ripped off big time. Even with GST the total is around $600. Thats a 66.66% premium to buy here in Australia.

  • Any news on the atom one?

  • I am new to the tablet / laptop space.
so the spec is at the high end of whats currently on offer?

Has anyone purchased anything from this website www.bhphotovideo.com

Last thing I want is paying for nothing.

so the spec is at the high end of whats currently on offer?

Depends what you're specifically after. If you're asking about WinRT in particular, then sure, why not. All the current offerings look basically the same. If you're after a laptop-grade tablet, then that is a different beast entirely (not sure if any x86 tablets have been released yet). If you're expecting this Asus tablet to function like a regular Windows PC: don't. It won't be compatible with any kind of normal desktop Windows application, that would be the x86 tablets' domain.

If you looking for something along the lines of Android / Apple, then WinRT (in my opinion) is at the bottom of the pile. This is a tablet with an immature ecosystem, a lackluster resolution (compared to the Nexus 10 and iPad), and an aging A9 Tegra 3 processor. To be honest, I'd buy something else (Android or Apple), or at least wait for a second wave of WinRT devices. Hope that wasn't too harsh.

However… if you desperately want Windows and Microsoft Office and an official keyboard dock right out of the box, then I suppose this isn't too bad. I haven't actually used WinRT or this tablet, so I can only give my opinion based on specs.

As for the website, many people here have purchased from them without a hiccup.
