  • Same prices all month, this is just SPAM

    • Hi JV,

We are a clearance website. We buy and sell excess stock. The RRP is the price the retailer would have sold it for (In this particular case, Myer and David Jones).

So no, we are not spam as you have suggested and I challenge you to find any of the Artex range at a cheaper price.

      Cheers,

      DA

      • +1

So, to be clear, these are your regular (usual, normal, un-discounted) prices?

        No bargains?

The crossed out prices are the rec. retail that some other sites may sell at?

      • I disagree - ozbargain is a place where out of the as usual trade deals are presented.

Your proposition muddies this pool because although they are cheaper than retail, they are not unusual for your site.

I think that's what jv meant.

You are advertising your site (i.e. spam) and not offering an out of the ordinary (from the perspective of the prices that you offer usually) price on your site.

I also happen to agree with jv, in that I think this post is spam. He/she was polite enough not to neg it though.

Maybe it was in the presentation of the deal?

You mentioned 50% off in the title, implying 50% off usual prices you marked on your site. NOT 50% of RRP. Maybe you didn't do that on purpose, but that's the expectation it set & that's the world we live in.

Maybe something as simple as adding "off RRP" to the end of %50 would have set the correct expectation & maybe jv (& myself) may have not felt cheated into clicking on the link to this post & finding something other than what was expected.

As Australians, we might not be used to being mislead in the space of advertising. (Boy oh boy are the ads in the US misleading, there are so many conditions to deals which are not mentioned. Some stuff is just criminal. You can say a in an ad that a car is worth X & not put the word "from" in front of it…& they show the all options included model, but for the price of the bare-bones version & it's legal over there…so you get my point? We are used to getting the expectations right…I know I know…yes…we are spoiled)

Anyway, I can only hope a lesson is learned here.

        Maybe I'm rambling? Sorry.

        • Hi insinc & A3Australia,

Firstly, the prices listed are what the retailers currently sell/have been selling them for. Our model is not that different from catch of the day, where we both buy excess stock and sell it online and display the retail value. Our point of difference is we stop listing the stock when we sell out rather than after 24 hours. I apologise if this was misleading in anyway, it was certainly not my intention to. It was simply to give consumers a better understanding of how much the goods had been previously selling for (not on our website, but in general).

Secondly, I assumed (and maybe incorrectly?) that OzBargain was a site where people share products that have been significantly discounted. I wasn't aware that they had to be discounted significantly from our business - I just thought if we had a product that people are paying an extra 30% for then the forum members would appreciate us to supply them with a cheaper price. Again, I could be incorrect and I apologise if I have misread the terms and conditions.

Not quite sure what is wrong with the the title to be honest with you, however happy to add "off RRP" like you have suggested if you feel it makes a difference.

Again, apologies if I have mislead anybody with this post however it wasn't my intention and I have always read other successful posts so we could be in-line with them. It was simply to notify customers that we have a sale on Artex products.

          Cheers,

          DA

  • Some of the products have been discounted, compare it to google cache.

    • Hi Josephchi,

Please see my reply to JV - appreciate the support.

  • No reply from REP.

    No bargain(s).

So now a neg from me as well.

    • Sorry A3Australia, just took me a while to get the post right. Please see above.

  • Seems like some ok deals here, but that web site is shocking.

Trying to see some decent pictures of what it is you are buying. Even some of the pictures of the items are of different items. Not even the ones for sale.

Also, don't know how you would expect anyone to buy something labelled with a colour of Porcini and show pictures of the Sienna Colour.

Anyway, just an FYI I suppose.
I am in the market for a bunch of compendiums for my wifes business, and clearer detail of what it is I am buying probably would have had me sold.

    • Hi Martincwain,

Unfortunately the disadvantage of working with excess stock is that we tend to use the supplier's photos due to the high turnover (we can sell out of things through our distribution network before we actually list them on the website), however I know with this range we will be improving the quality of the images. If you would like to send us an email with which compendiums you are interested in, I will organise someone to send you better quality images when they become available.

And I appreciate the feedback too - we are striving to improve but our business has probably grown too quickly in the short amount of time we have been operating.

      Cheers,

      DA
