http://bonusmysteryflight.com.au/terms.php

OK - now that I've got that out of my system…oh, and this better not be a dupe, cause it took me ten minutes to come up with that.

  • 1 nights accommodation plus return flight for 1 person, or 2 nights plus return flights for 2 people (linked booking) in 3.5 to 4 star hotel
  • $30 booking fee applies per person
  • The offer commences on 1 November 2012 and closes on 30 November 2012
  • Each Mystery Trip must be booked by 31 December 2012 and must be taken between 1 February 2013 and 30 November 2013 (inclusive)
  • Travel ‘blackout’ periods applying including the periods between 13 March 2013 and 18 March 2013 (inclusive) and between 28 March 2013 and 2 April 2013 (inclusive)

I bought 2 x 6 packs for $120, so for me and the wife, it is a total of $180 for 12 bottles of wine plus 2 nights accommodation with return flights :)

We scored ours over a public holiday, and friends have theirs booked in the school holidays.

Took about 7 working days from first sending off for the deal to getting confirmation of our dates of departure.

The guys from the bottle shop said the Jacobs Creek rep advised the trips from Perth will be with Virgin to Brisbane, Sydney, or Melbourne…not sure about other cities.

The stickers may be in an envelope under the counter, although most of my friends have found stickered bottles.

Looks to be 5 different varieties of Cool Harvest:

http://www.jacobscreek.com.au/wines/cool-harvest

It's also advertised in the latest Cellarbrations catalogue…page 4:

http://images.lasoomedia1.com.au/imageicon/clb/prod/j0052293…

And no, this is not a competition - I have had 14 friends and family jump on this already, and got this response from the Jacob Creek reps:

"all participants that satisfy the entry conditions and have a valid claim will receive the offer as outlined"

Got my hotel confirmation today. 4 star property in the CBD. Checked the prices online for the same period and it is around $200 per night so I'm happy with that.

    • +1

      Which hotel?

    • Which city are you travelling to wcm?

    Thanks OP for this deal.

Just got my confirmation for my dates in late May.
Confirmed Melbourne to Sydney with a quick Google search
    http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=flights+from+MEL
There were only two domestic destinations that matched my exact departure time.
Looked them both up and matched the return departure time. Both were with Virgin
    http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=flights+from+SYD

    Gave Virgin a quick call on 07 3295 2296 (or 13 67 89). Option 2, Option 3.
"Hi, could I please get my flight reservation number?"
Answered the following questions (approximate order):
    - What is your last name?
    - What is your first name?
    - Where are you flying?
    - What date and time is the departure?
    - Is this a one way or return flight?
    - How many passengers are on this booking?
    - How did you make this booking? "Through a travel agent"
    - What time is the return flight?

Virgin: "Thank you sir, I have it here. Your booking reservation number is OZBRGN"

Went to the following and put in my Reservation number and surname. Found it no problem.
    https://fly.virginaustralia.com/SSW2010/VAVA/myb.html

Once your booking is retrieved, it shows all the flight details. It also showed my flights are worth $280 so this is right up there with the best bargains here. Massive kudos to the OP!

It would be great if people could report back on which hotels they got! :)

    • You can find out by making a dummy booking on the selected flights and it will give you the total cost per person.

So, what can you do with the Reservation number? Is it possible to change the flight time or perhaps extend the departure date?

I'm in Melb and I'm also heading to Sydney.

      • it costs about $50-$60 plus price difference of flight to change. I looked at that, but wasnt really worth it.

    • cheers! just did the same thing.

    • Thanks joe,

did the same and my melb to GC flights for 2 ppl are $398. :)

      • Lucky you! Would have preferred GC over Sydney (never been vs 4-5 times) but a holiday is still a holiday! What time of the year are you travelling, out of interest?

        • Yeh agree, a holiday is a holiday! travelling anzac long weekend :)

    • ahahah bloody fantastic!! went though the same script with virgin and got all the details, even added an infant too since jacobs creek havent gotten back to me. lucky as well cos there was only 1 spot left!

  • Got my flights today. Canberra to Melbourne - 8 June to 10 June. Flights are a bit meh: depart @ 10:05; return @ 11:30am.

definetely the cheapest flights of the day.

Curious to know what accomodation they're using in Melbournia

  • +2

Got my intinerary today, staying in the Wrest Point Hotel in Hobart.
Not bad at all in my opinion $230 a night normally for $180 (2 people, 2 nights).

  • I just got my flights - cant work where I am going ?? I'm Leaving from Perth
    Depart 27 Sept @ 10.40am
    Return 29 Sept @ 8.00pm

Thought Id be cheeky and request these dates hoping I'd get to Melbourne for the AFL grand final but dont think its Melbourne :( :(

    • Just worked it out - Jetstar to Sydney - oh well not Melbourne like I hoped but not bad, havent been to Sydney before !

      • I got same flight times for 28th Sep - 30th Sep! Wondering how to get the reference number. Is it the same process as Virgin?

    • Hahaha I thought of doing the same but I thought nah gf weekend can only end in tears when I get shipped off elsewhere so I went with the prelim weekend and got Melbourne! Pretty happy with the flights too - leave Perth at 10:15am Friday 20th and back on Sunday 22nd at 8:05pm so a good 2 and a bit days. Flying jetstar.

My wife and I just had our 2 night stay in Hobart (Sat, Sun nights).
We stayed at the Wrest Point hotel/casino.

We were given a Water Edge room with a double bed and a single bed. I then called up the reception desk and spoke to a brilliant bloke 'Michael', when I asked how much it would cost to upgrade to a room with a king bed. He asked me to return to reception and he handed me a new room key, when I asked how much the upgrade was he said not to worry its free. I was very pleased to find that he had upgraded us to the Executive Harbour View on the 12th floor even though he knew it was free accommodation.

Although the furniture is a little dated the stay was brilliant and we had a great time. I can honestly say that we couldn't have asked for more for our $180 holiday (with a dozen free bottles of wine), definantly one of the best bargains I've picked up from ozbargain.

Thanks again Kirt, couldn't have possibly afforded this holiday without your help.

    • +6

      No worries ;)

Thanks for the writeup…sounds like you had a great time!

Looking forward to reading more reviews :D

I just came back from a 2 night stay at the Vibe Hotel in the Gold Coast.

Regarding the flights - I flew return Sydney-GC with Virgin, and even though the T&C for the promo say that only carry-on is included for the flights, we discovered by calling up Virgin that we had checked luggage for both flights because a 'saver' fare was purchased. However they couldn't send us the actual itinerary, and they also said that they couldn't move the flights back for us, even if we wanted to - they said that only the agent that booked the flights could and to contact them. So we just stuck with the flights we were given. I would've liked to return a little later than 11.05am today though!

However the weather was great, but some of the environment was still recovering from the floods. All the bushwalks on Mt Tambourine were closed when we went because there were fallen trees etc on the tracks and the tracks were quite damaged. The beaches were a bit rough as well still.

As for the Vibe Hotel, they gave us a free upgrade to a studio room on arrival which was awesome. Location wise, it was next to the river not the beach, but it was still in the midst of the main Surfer's Paradise area. The shower could not maintain a regular temperature on day 1, but it was fine on day 2. Otherwise the room was clean and nice.

Thanks OP for the awesome bargain!

    • I just checked and I have a saver fare as well, which includes 23kg of checked baggage per person. The flights are Bris to Melbourne and cost $396 all up.

  • +4

I am currently in Vibe hotel for first night on the Gold Coast. Quite a nice place. Went to Mt Tambourine today and did Skywalk (huge rip off, bridge is only about 50m and the whole walk takes less than 30 minutes). Car hire for 3 days costs about $135 which is very convenient. Not sure what to do tomorrow, not really into themeparks but have not been for about 10 years, might go to movie world. if anyone has better suggestions please post, or even some good discounts to themeparks.

I was worried about the carry on baggage only having a 7kg limit but they do not even weigh or take any notice of what you have. I crammed all my stuff into a backpack and is certainly over 7kg.

lost a bit of money in casino, wont be going back there and the $9.90 noodle special for signing up to their rewards club very bland and boring.

    • I found that the DFO is pretty good if you like shopping, but maybe check with luggage allowance before you go all out?

    • In addition, Jacobs Creek sent out this different return flight time and it turns out it hadn't actually changed. The first time they sent them to us all in the local time from either departing city and the second time in the confirmation, they sent the times all Sydney local time which was a bit odd. So I would recommend double checking the flight times with the airlines before departing coz otherwise I would've been at the GC airport a whole hour unnecessarily earlier.

  • Hi everyone.
Please make sure your return flight is correct, as ours was booked for another month and now we're stuck in Brisbane for another day.

  • My orignial flights were after 4pm. Last condirmation was 10.10am. Glad I called Virgin because I am booked for the original flight!

  • Received my flights today. Looks like MEL to OOL. Depart MEL 9:15am Depart OOL 7:00pm. Happy with those times and the destination. Thanks again OP.

  • Glad to hear you guys all had a great time and for the others, have great destinations.

I still have Brisbane -> shitty Rockhampton to look forward to. They originally said in an email that they would change the flight at my expense (early Dec) I replied telling them I was happy with that, now they are ignoring my emails.

    shakes head

    • +1

      Give them a call on 1300 604 911.

Sorry to hear that your disappointed with your trip, hopefully they will revise it for you.

      • Hey, Thanks

They only accept contact through their support email in regards to bookings.

They replied finally yesterday and said I can change the date (at my expense) but I could get the same destination once again. I tried stressing that Rockhampton is not really a tourist destination but they keep saying it's a "Mystery Flight" and have no idea where I'm going.

Rockhampton: botanical gardens, national park & a closed down island (Great Keppel, 40 mins drive). Thanks Jacobs Creek you tight bastards.

Our flights were $60 each way x 2 - $240 rtn. So that means they have spent $760 for 2 nights of accom in a 4 star hotel/motel in a country town. The total value of the promo holiday was meant to be 2 x $500 = $1000.

I will just forfeit the trip.

As long as it paid off for most of the people on ozbargain I can be a little happy, I'll just take one for the team.

        Any other success stories?

        • im not trying to sh!t stir, but it stated UP TO $500. I am a bit peeved i got Melbourne (from Adelaide) but at least my $180 + $70 booking fee was not going to waste.

        • +2

I know Rocky is pretty shitty comparing to other places. If I were you, I would still be grateful and try to enjoy my time there. I see no problems with they giving you Rockhampton..

        • I agree, relax as must as you can! At the end of the day it's still a $180+- trip for two people and two nights accomodation!

        • Perhaps you didn't read my post?

Please tell me what I can do in a small country town, like Rockhampton. It's not a sleepy country town with a beautiful bay or anything like that. It's an, if anything, industrial/mining town.
They have 0 Tourists visiting Rocky, for good reason.

Do I walk around their Woolworths complex? Walk through their "Botanical Gardens"? Maybe I'll try and find a mine site..

I travel to rocky often for work, trust me, i know.

I understand being appreciative for a deal but you cannot compare major cities and tourist destinations to a sh!t hole country town. It should not be on the list, simple.

Don't try and defend it, it's wrong. simple. If you were in my shoes you would feel the same way.

It seems like they have just found the cheapest possible destination with an airport from Brisbane and said "that will do".

          Spot the odd one out:
          Melbourne
          Sydney
          Brisbane
          Adelaide
          Gold Coast
          Rockhampton

          Make sence?

        • +1

It was an offer of a mystery flight, So its like a lucky dip.
If you didnt want to take a chance on the location then perhaps it would have been better not to enter.
Just relax and enjoy the break away.

        • Yep. +1
          It's called a MYSTERY flight for a reason…

I got melbourne (from perth), but would have been equally happy with Rockhampton (or anywhere else) as this deal was slightly above free. Dont forget, for your $180, you got 12 bottles of decent (if not brilliant) wine.

        • +1

millzy, you should be able to get a credit/refund from virgin for the flight costs. friends did that for the exact same reason as you; they were uninterested in a mystery flight to rocky. they got $250ish. you might also be able to change the hotel booking if it's a chain?

edit: they might have cited flooding in Rocky as a reason to get the full fare credited. Normal fee for cancellations is $80 (saver fare) so I guess you could get credited the rest.

        • Thanks very much for the only decent reply I have received.

Did they get $250 after cancellation fees?
How did they go with cancellation of the hotel? was it a chain?

Great info in regards to the flooding.

          Thanks again!

  • What would you guys have done in Rocky if you didnt get Melbourne? Im curious.

  • 2 days goes in no time, I would just go and enjoy the time away in a nice hotel, eat some good food/drink and wander around the city if there is really not much to do there.

  • Could someone please tell me when they received the email stating where they are going & where they are staying? I am supposed to be leaving on Wednesday the 13th Feb (in a few days time) & havent received it yet. I think I worked it out to be Adelaide that we are travelling to, but want to know details. Thanks in advance.

    • My flight was for a Saturday and I received the email on the Wednesday. So it should be either today or tomorrow, don't forget to check your spam folder and if you haven't had an email by late afternoon tomorrow give them a call.

Has anyone been to Melboure on the mystery flight if so what hotel is being used

      • Cheers but damn another one that doesn't have the booking. Ok it's gonna b a mystery hotel for us!

  • +1

Can anyone advise what hotel is being used in Sydney?

    • +2

I just got my details for Sydney this weekend. The hotel is Metro Hotel Pitt Street. Looks pretty good, much better than expectations.

      • +1

        Thaks for the info Elmo.
I would be happy if we get that hotel too. It is quite central and handy to transport.

  • I got Perth to Melbourne in April for 2 ppl over a weekend, stoked. But then our good friends sent out a late notice wedding invite for that exact weekend.

Rang the support line and emailed twice, offering to pay for changed dates or even to change the names. Each time I get "sorry, against Ts&Cs". Ill ring Virgin to see if i can change the flights at least, but not holding my breath. Oh well, was a good ride while it lasted…

    • +1

Ask your friends to re-schedule their wedding? :)

    • +1

It has been reported that dates can be changed by the airline for a fee.
First you need the reservation number, which they can get from name, dates, etc. Search above.

      • Only problem, is that you dont know where you are staying.

      • Planning to do that. Just miss out on accommodation. Better than nothing :-)

        • Maybe ring citigate Melbourne and see if you are booked there and can change dates. Worth a try. See mmm s new post below.

      • Got my reservation number - confirmed Virgin. Can't change the booking online (clicking on this link in my booking states it cannot be changed online - please contact Virgin). Rang Virgin and they said it can only be changed by the agent. Asked to double check there was no way I could change it myself, and the response was definitely no.

Might try ringing a couple more times to get different people to see if anyone can help out.

Jacobs Creek Mystery Flight Promo THANKS, Feedback - Q&A

Got back last week from the Jacobs Creek mystery flight and thought I would thank the original Ozbargain poster Kirt and Jacobs Creek for such a great Promo as it is often said that if it’s too good to be true… Well happy to inform the sceptics that this turned out to be better than expected.

I thought many will have questions and I am happy to answer or maybe any others that have also already taken their mystery flight can also. So Thanks again to Kirt you are a legend!! Thanks also goes to Jacobs Creek for such an awesome promotion.

I have created a discussion here to cover any questions some may have.
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/93787

    • +2

Great to hear MMM, and thanks for the kudos…makes it worthwhile to take the time to post deals up with feedback like this ;)

  • +2

    Hi all,

First of all, I wanted to thank Kirt in advance for posting this awesome deal (probably one of the best I have ever seen on OzB), and I am pretty sure I will have a great time!

Second I have got my reservations confirmed for next week, even though still waiting for the itinerary, I have pin pointed the flight time with only one destination which matches both ways, and it is a rather odd destination "Launceston, Tasmania"! I just wanted to know if anyone else have gotten this destination as well or not. Also not being in Australia for long, I wanted to know what are the attractions of Launceston; any special place that I have to go… etc etc

    Thanks in advance,
    OP you rock!!! :)

  • +1

    Launceston:

    Use Google maps:

    1. Cataract Gorge - You can walk along the northern side of the river. Swimming there also.

    2. You can do a day tour to Cradle Mountain for extra cost.

    3. You can see penguins at night near Devonport but you will need rental car or transport.

    4. Launceston also has Boags Beer factory if you like beer history. Free.

Google the above to learn more.

    • +1

      Thanks heaps hello007,
I also found out there is this "AAMI Launceston Cup" for anyone who will be there on 27th of February.

  • I'm flying out this weekend with my partner. Just received our itinerary. Brisbane -> Sydney via Virgin Saver both ways. Staying at Travelodge Wynyard which looks like a decent location.

For those that are interested in status credits and FF miles - I just called the velocity hotline and asked to have our velocity numbers attached to our flights and they obliged. The terms of the promotion stated this wasn't possible but I thought I would give it a shot. Happy flying!

    • +1

I put my velocity number when I checked in for both flights and they have been credited :) I think that was the icing on the cake for this promo for me!

  • Great, been waiting to hear from them about our booking and decided to send an email. No record of us submitting our dates. Anyone else have similar issues and successfully resolved them?

We had some technical issues originally and our bookings weren't joined so we emailed asking them to join our bookings. Got a response saying that our request had been forwarded on to the IT department but we didn't hear back so I called on the 31st of December to confirm it and nothing had happened. So we had them manually remove the booking and resubmitted a linked booking. I tried submitting twice to make sure it worked and got the notice that our preferred dates had already been submitted.

Haven't heard back from them yet after explaining all this. Would have been so much easier if they'd allowed you to edit your dates and link your bookings up until the cut-off date.

    • +1

Ok, happy to say that it's all fixed now.

  • +1

ok, my trip is coming up on the 28th feb and just got my confirmation on flights and hotel, looks like ill be flying with virgin (already knew this from the help of you guys) and will be staying at http://www.mantralegends.com.au/ apparently this hotel is 4.5 star.. should be interesting!! =)

happy with this! now i get to use my new sony tx20 water proof camera that i just got as well thanks to ozbargain! haha nice!

    • +1

hey guys, did our trip. thanks again OP Kirt and Jacobs Creek Cool Harvest. the hotel was fine, great thing about our hotel was it was smack bang in the middle of surfers, great location. only bummer was the crazy sideways rain we had. all in all great trip! great bargain. !!

      thanks.

  • +1

    Hi guys.
I just investigated my booking. It is with Jetstar from Perth to Melbourne in late april.
I got the jetstar representative to email me an itinerary (to get reference number), but when I go into manage my booking, it appears to be locked. - It says to contact the travel agent (integrated travel service).
I'm not too bothered by this to be honest. We're happy with what we have - Just thought I'd share this experience with you guys.

    Cheers
    ;-)

  • I have no idea where I'm going.

10th May 2013 11:25 AM flight departure from Melbourne

12th May 2013 1:10 PM flight departure from Mystery location

Can't find any flight with that time.
Is it possible that they give me the wrong time ?

    • sometimes if the flight is booked out it wont show up on webjet. i went through the complete list of departure points (assuming that is the only ones they use for destination) and could not find a match…

    • Maybe they're onto us, and deliberately giving the wrong time. lol

    • There is a REX flight heading to Mildura at 11:25am

    • I don't see the REX flight mentioned.
I think its more likely a scheduling change by the airline.

If I search for domestic departures on Fridays at 11:25 on the Melbourne airport website, consistently get Adelaide and Brisbane on Virgin for that time.

There are no times that match up for 13:10 return, but I'd lean towards Adelaide as they depart to Melb 10mins past the hour. But I guess will remain a mystery until you get your e-mail 3 days before.
