60
fb2012fiver

Just noticed the sale on Brainwavz B2 at MP4Nation.

These bad boys:

  • are dual balanced armatures
  • are the flagship earphones of Brainwavz (in ear).
  • free fedex next day delivery
  • come with comply foam eartips (in addition to silicon sets)

This is the cheapest it has ever been (at least as far as I can remember).
Local price is $189, with longer delivery times:

All reviews I've read are very positive, for example:

Also (for people viewing this from limited data plans/this one is a big big page - to summarise, it has similar scores to $300 IEMs):

For those of you familiar with Fischer Audio DBA-02, these are practically the same earphones (same shell, same drivers, same cable - just given a face lift by Brainwavz and made available for a much more reasonable price):

Looking at the comments on my previous posts, there seems to be plenty of ozbargainers willing to spend around $100 for a good pair of earphones, and B2 seems to be one of the best buys for that price range.

These are now available for $100.20(AUD), with facebook discount code ‘fb2012fiver’ (don't forget to put it in the field in the cart. Also don't forget to select free fedex as the shipping option.

If you're OK with it, my referral link:

Hope you enjoy. Cheers.

  • So tempting :'(

  • Mmm tempting, but just picked up the R1 from the other deal.

Found this review which briefly compares the B2 to the R1: http://www.mp4nation.net/forum/f46/new-brainwavz-r1-dual-dyn…

  • Didn't know you could get dual armatures for $100…hmmm very tempting

  • This is a ridiculously good price for these. Same as the Fischer Audio DBA-02 Mkii's - which are a brilliant earphone and my day to day listeners. Excellent analytical signature.

    • They're actually not the same as the MkII's. They're based on the original DBA-02's. ;)

Why is "balanced armature" considered a feature? Reading the Wikipedia description, it sounds like it is a handicap: "Today they are typically used only in canalphones and hearing aids due to their diminutive size and low impedance."

Canalphones is another word for in-ear-monitors (IEMs). IEM speakers can be divided into two categories: dynamic and armature. Although there are a few high-end dynamic IEMs (Sennheiser IE8), most mid to high-end IEMs use balanced armatures (single, dual, triple).

It is much easier and cheaper to produce good-quality armature speakers for IEMs (given the size of the speakers). Dynamic speakers don't go as small as easily.

Here are a couple of discussions that might help your understanding:

      • Thanks for the description and links, they are far more informative than the wikipedia page.

The feature is not that they are balanced armature, but rather that they are dual balanced armature. There are two drivers inside each ear piece, compared to a single driver in basic earphones.
