  • What are these like compared to WDTV Live?

    • +1

You're comparing two different things. WDTV Live is primarily a media player, however this is a Mini-PC that can also work as a media player.

  • While I don't have this exact model, I have a similar model with the same chipset.

It's a pain. The Android configuration claims that it has a cellular radio connected to China Telecom. Why it does this I have no idea, but the result is that the Google Play store regards it a Chinese device. This prevents a lot of Australia-only apps, such as ABC iView, from installing.

Having said that, it works well otherwise. I use it mostly to play streaming video, and video files from my file server.

    • You must have the MK808. Its possible to get rid of the Chinese settings by deleting or disabling some of the un required software, but cant remember exactly how this is done.

    • there is no abc iview app on adnroid
      http://www.abc.net.au/tv/iview/faq.htm

we can go to abc iview website straight away - because this device can run full flash website

Big brother watching you. Ever wonder why the Aus Govt has banned China's telcos from bidding for the NBN?

what sort of gpu it has?

RK3066 = Cortex A9 Dual Core mobile processor (usually 1.6GHz) which includes a quad core Mali400 (250 MHz).
One of the better System on a Chip (SoC) used in Chinese Android tablets for graphics processing.

  • Better buying one of these or a tv with android built in?

Already have a dual core tablet without Bluetooth.

    • if your tablet has a HDMI output, you probably won't need this.

  • how's this one compared to MK808 ?

  • MX1 version has aluminium body….. Wonder if that would be better to dissipate heat.

Specs for MX1 and MX2 are the same.

  • 1 x Mini-USB For charging

Someone please explain.. This thing has a battery?

    • I think they meant for powering it up. It doesn't have a battery.

  • This one has bluetooth over the MK808, appears to have better Wifi and Build quality, can use external Micro SD cards up to 32G.

  • Could anyone please educate me on the benefits of XBMC compared to other video apps ? I have read the Wikipedia description but still wondering how is it better than using the apps like MXPlayer to stream videos from your network ? MXPlayer has also got options of H/W and S/W decoding. Considering these HDMI sticks have no H/W decoding, how installing the XBMC can provide a better experience ?

  • Well, XBMC is not just a simple media player, you can put heaps of add-ons on it to be able to do more with it, like live TV, YouTube, etc, it's got a really nice media library feature and because it's so popular you'll always get more and more feaatures like PVR in the future.
