these prices aren't even considered a bargain anymore, its pretty much been that price for the past few years..

Pretty sure this model just came out in the middle-late of this year, but as you say, these prices come up at least every month.

    • Don't know where you buy from, but it's hardly gone below $629 this year, let alone the last few as you stated…

"these prices aren't even considered a bargain anymore, its pretty much been that price for the past few years.."

Pretty sure I saw the exact comment somewhere. Feel like dejavu lol

  • got 2 arriving Thursday :D

Got them for around $612.50 with 5 years warranty :D Should last me till the next best things out…

  • How noticeable is this vs a 27" 1920 x 1080 monitor?

    • What monitor are you comparing to? Is it a 27" IPS?

IMHO anything over 24" needs to be greater than 1920x1080…

      • Oh nothing specific, just like the many $250-$300 monitors that are 27" at umart. Most don't mention they are IPS

      apples vs. cauliflower

      There is no comparison

It's a huge difference. At 27" the low pixel density is quite noticeable - you sit much closer to a monitor than your 1080p TV.

I have one of these, and can't recommend it highly enough. Sure, it's a sizable price premium over the budget 1080p 27"-ers, but with the amount of time I spend at my computer, it's definitely worth it.

      • Awesome thanks for the info. Does anyone know of any other dell promos that can be combined with this?

      • does it have a good response time for gaming?

        • For me, I don't notice any issues with it (specs say 8ms), but for me 12-16ms is when I start noticing ghosting, and monitors have been better than that since about 2005.

A bigger issue with gaming is that the large resolution can cause more noticeable tearing in game, which means you need to enable v-sync. That, coupled with the high res can put quite a load on your video card for newer games - my GTX285 which, although a few years old is still a fairly high end card, was struggling to stay >30FPS on games like Skyrim and The Witcher 2.

        • Don't ask such ground breaking questions…

          It's OKish

If it's mainly for games you might be better off getting a 1080p 27".

        • How does this compare with a gaming monitor? Gaming monitor is basically just 120hz and low refresh like 2ms right?

        • +1

Most (all?) 120hz monitors are not IPS, so worse colour and viewing angles.

Not great for movies and games where the visuals are important (as opposed to say competition-level FPS where you need that 120hz).

    • depends on your eyesight and/or your glasses.

  • Personally, I had two of Dell's 27 inch monitors (the previous model I think) and found the text to be too small, I ended up selling 'em

    • +2

      text to be too small,

What do you mean? You couldn't figure out how to zoom in your browser and/or increase the DPI setting in windows?

      • +2

Ppppssshhhh the proper way to fix this problem is to run your monitor at 640x480.
