    • Yeah, not sure if a meager 9 items justifies the garish banners.
Somewhat reminiscent of those EB Games sales, with the billions of banners all over the shop.

I think the full HD TV at $198 is a pretty good price. Cant comment on quality but price I dont think it can be beat!

    • TV is a limited managers special - "Limited to the first 100 customers only."

    • Bought that model last week and it was DOA.

Managed to get the difference refunded and TV to be replaced soon.

      • Mine was DOA too. Couldn't turn it on?

    • +2

if crap return to DSE for refund.. beter than geting from deals with dodgy returns policy

      • I think you cannot return it easily as before now.

  • Considering the TV for my room but not sure about quality

  • What the hell. Good or not it will be good enough for the kids. Thanks OP, bought the TV.

    • Just as a warning their Dick Smith brand TVs have firmware issues and cannot be updated as they don't provide firmware updates.

      • +2

i don't think anyone is expecting any firmware update for a $199 tv

  • The photo frame might be a good cheap Christmas present. Anyone got any idea on this one?

    • I paid $40 more for a Kaiser Baas HD 8" media player and also use it as a photo frame from JB hifi which my son enjoying it everyday. Well that is just me.

    • +7

i think digital photo frames are a bad idea

Remember the recipient has to leave these powered on 24/7 to show a slideshow of photos that is really only useful when you have guests over.

Waste of electricity in my opinion. Better off buying a cheapo no name android tablet

      • Agreed, and it says not to keep them on for more than 1-2 hours at a time from memory because they get so hot.

        • LED may be better.

        • = free heater in winter?

Take a computer illiterate grandparent who is besotted with their grandchildren, who live some distance away, and you have a perfect candidate for a digital frame. Christmas sorted! (just don't forget to throw in the SD card full of pics)

        • and then the second SD card when they jam it in the right way the first time and kill the SD card

Android tablet as a photo frame is still waste of electricity.
Just print a few phones (say 11) for 9c each from Hardly Normal and a photo frame from $2 shop.
All sorted for under $3!! And it is GREEN (no carbon foot print).

        • Just print a few phones (say 11) for 9c each from Hardly Normal and a photo frame from $2 shop. All sorted for under $3!! And it is GREEN (no carbon foot print).

They're going to get crappy print quality if you go to Hardly Normal, just for a start, and the frames for those 563 prints they are likely to want are going to cost you a shipload …. and then when they want to put NEW pics in those frames …..

You ARE kidding though in claiming printed photos have no carbon footprint though, surely?? That would be akin to saying because you walked to the supermarket for your vegies, they had no carbon footprint either. How do you think the chemicals and paper got to the store to run that big flash power-guzzling machine.

    2 Pure-Fi Express Plus for $99.

  • FYI The LOGITECH Pure-Fi Express Plus is $1 cheaper at JB HiFi (http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/ipod-mp3-portables/ipod-speak…). DSE had it cheaper but JB dropped to match. last week it was only the funny purple one but now also in black. Really happy with the one I bought last Friday and for $64/$65 seems way better than other units around that price.

  • bought the TV to put in my son's bedroom. Thanks OP!

    • parent of the year !!

No really, I'm not judging you

      yes I am!

      (kidding)

      no, not kidding

  • Have anybody used this outdoor TV Antenna?
Are they good? I will be needing an outdoor TV Antenna soon
    Will appreciate any suggestions…

  • Bought one. Was going to get the Soniq at JB. Hope this ones ok.

  • Really want that TV but not sure how I'd ever be able to get it delivered :(

    • +1

      Delivery is free

      • +1

LOL yeah.. i dont understand it either.. Does he live one of the moons in Pandora? Unabtanium!

      • +1

But you need to be home to sign for it.
They will not leave it and you need to pick it up from the depot.

Pain in the arse if you don't live close. (I.e Tullarmarine for Melb.)

        • Yeah, sorry if I was obscure but there's nobody home during the day and you can hardly lug a 32" TV home on the train :)

Some place ie. wine deliveries offer to put it around the back for you which is greatly preferable.

        • do you know any neighbours that can sign for it or can you work from home one day?

        • +1

Most couriers have an "authorisation to leave" that you can give in writing.

Easiest thing to do is get the tracking number once its posted, then email the courier about the package and say you give authorisation to leave. They can then leave the package somewhere on your property.

        • Alternatively, have it delivered to your work address or a friend/family member's house! :)

        • +3

Authorised to leave with no one home = free tv for courier driver :P

        • i am very sure dse doesnt allow self pick up from the depot. at least it was my experience a few weeks back. it was really a frustrating experience.

  • Grrrr brought a 720p 32" LED Panasonic about a month ago from Dick Smith for $402 when they had 20% off it, thought I was getting a deal now it's $398 normal price!

    • -4

i have a Panasonic too and you really cant compare to a yum cha no name brand… the picture, build is just better

I have no issue with cheap TVs but i expect the lowest and i dont expect that they are at all comaparable to A1 branded sets no matter what Kogan says

      • +1

read it again.he is not comparing it to a Chinese brand tv.

  • Hi everyone,
How is the Galaxy Duo holding up against similiar phones in that price range? I'm looking for a decent phone for the missus for xmas. She's not a tech geek at all and would mainly use it for phone calls (who would have thought?!), txting, a bit of facebook and the camera.
Any feedback on the phone is appreciated. Cheers

    • +2

If you don't need dual sim get something else.

If you want a decent phone get the Nexus 4 but out of stock at the moment.

      https://play.google.com/store/devices/details/Nexus_4_8GB?id…

      • YES I agree, pay a bit more and get Nexus 4 instead, much much better spec !!!

        • yeah but they took the sd card out of it to stop it competing with samsung galaxy but if you're like me and you don't need that it is absolutely exactly the same with a lower price tag!

      • Haha yeah … the NEXUS 4 was the initial plan, but I have bad feeling that I won't get that before xmas anymore :/
Anyway you are right, Dual SIM isn't needed at all so the DUO is probably not the right phone.

      • damn the Nexus 4 is cheap!

    • Also bear in mind that these are normally available from Kogan for $259 + shipping

      http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/samsung-galaxy-s-duos-white/?gcl…

      • +1

Grey at Kogan vs local stock at DSE.

The $19 shipping actually makes the import $3 more than buying local stock with bricks & mortar backup! ;)

  • anyone know what leads are on the Logitech headset? I need 2x 3.5mm with the mic seperate

    • +2

      You'll be right.

"Analog connection with 3.5 mm input and output jacks"

found a review of the tv from people who bought it over at dealsdirect - http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/viano-32in-81-2cm-lcd-hd-tv-pv…

they sound happy, not sure if you care to believe, but this is the closest to a review i could find…

    • same model as the TV from this deal? the review was for FHD LCD but this deal is FHD LCD LED?

    • Looks like the non-led version so completely different essentially

      • +1

        ah ok thanks guys…

    • Yeah as the others said, different models (The DSE is also Full HD whilst the DD is just HD). Still, great work at finding something by this company! I'm guessing the refresh rate will be 50 or 60 Hz

  • That light looks handy, thanks OP!

  • No one has noted that the Viano TV is limited to 100 orders - "Limited to the first 100 customers only."

    • Oh and thanks OP!

  • Thanks, I actually found a few things I bought.

    • DS 8" LED Digital Photo Frame $29 - bought one for the grandparents, pretty fool proof once loaded with some photos and switched on.
    • DS 12V High Power White LED Spotlight $10 - handy to keep in the car.
    • Digimatch Compact Digital UHF/VHF Outdoor TV antenna $65 - my dad has been looking for a new antenna, so that's sorted.
  • Whats the quality of the TV like? Never heard of VIANO.. can anyone who may own on of these comment (clarity etc)

  • Whats the normal warranty on the TV.. 1 year right??

    • Yeh I got the extra 1 yr warranty through dick. Only 28 bux more and they give you a new one if it stuffs so worth it imo.

      • i paid via AMEX gold card and get double warranty…

        • good point, I think ima get me one of these cards :D

what's the cheapest card that offers this? i.e annual fees

  • Bought a TV for the kids - thanks OP!

  • bought a tv for meeeeeeeeeeee

  • The brand Viano is manufactured and distributed by Vivo

  • My order for the TV is showing back ordered. Any one else seeing this with their order? Online in the sale it says it's instock.

    • Yeh, mine says backordered as well grrrrrrrrr

      Anyone else

      • Mine also says backorder. Calling them tomorrow as listing says that its "While stocks last" To me that means its in stock. Hope this isn't a dodgy marketing ploy. Lets say we only have 100 but we'll take orders for as many as we can !!!

  • Mine is also back ordered, checked paypal and they have charged me for it already.

    • anyone actually have their order not backorder?

      • My order says: Delivery 1
Item Details Qty Ordered Status Subtotal
VIANO 32" FULL HD LED TV 1 In Progress $198.00
        FREE Standard Delivery

so "In Progress" is as much as i have.

        • mine has changed from backordered to in progress

  • I'm sure DSE sold more than 100 units today but still allowed you to buy and showing as "back order". You might wait for another 2-3 days later than those orders showing "dispatched". Just like what Spidey said, dodgy marketing strategy to state "100 only" to lure those people afraid of missing out the deal to pull the triger without thinking twice.

  • I bought mine very early in the piece. The deal had only had a handful of clicks and I most certainly would've been in the first 100 buyers

  • don't forget to buy Wish Gift Card from Woolworths using your ING PayWave card to get 5% cash back :)

  • Next delivery on the headphones. Brilliant.

  • The price of the tv has gone back up to $298, deals over?

  • I have a perfectly working TV which I haven't turned on for last 2 months. Good deal tho !

  • Got my tv today and very happy with it. It is very thin like the expensive brands and the picture is decent compared to my expensive tv.

    Gg

  • I can't turn on my TV for some reason? I plugged it into the power supply and there's no response? No blue/red light? DOA or am I doing something wrong?

Going to visit Dick Smith tomorrow.

  • Finally decided I'll set up the T. I find they have only supplied 3 screws to attatch the stand which has 5 holes. Anyone else in this situation too?

    • 2 are screwed into the tv. i thought the same, then noticed that two are attached.

      • Yeah that's what the manual says but the 2 screws aren't there. Anyone know where I can get M4 x 12mm screws from?
