  • I miss the previous $60 deal… i want another!

    • LOL, it was never even a $60 "deal". It was a price beat of a competitor's real deal which was $69. No one (neither JB or OW) advertised any "deals" for a $60 1TB HDD.

  • not quite the awesome $60 bux deal

  • Anyone knows if this is 7200rpm?

    • 5400rpm

    • The older models are 7200 rpm (with slanted sides). My 300 model is 5400.

  • I purchased this drive from OfficeWorks on a price match with JB HiFi from the last deal.

It is a 9.5mm high drive with a 'standard' interface. So it can be used in a MacBook for instance.

Easy to open the case and to remove the drive and it's connection. The case clips apart as long as you start by removing the base, not the top, first. And start from one side, not from an 'end'.

The case and connection can be re-used with whatever drive you are replacing.

Or of course you can just use this external drive as it was intended to be used.

    • good to know. i had a look and it looked like it couldn't be opened without breaking the case

Yes, I know. At first I thought that it may have been glued together, or at least
have double sided adhesive pad or something holding it together.

However, after turning it upside down, it was easy to open without damage.

    • Depends on the model you have. There are reports of both the 300 and 301 versions being available in OW.

  • My $63 JB one arrived a few minutes ago. The connector on the outside of the case looks like two micro-usb’s squished together. Is this a standard usb 3 connector or something only Seagate uses?
I hadn’t seen one before. Yes it comes with a cable to a normal USB 3 plug.

    • i think it's standard because I know the USB 3 Western Digital ones use these type of connection

    • +1

That's a standard type B USB 3 connector. Not unique to seagate.

You can use a micro USB 2 connector on it (it goes into the larger half) but you will only get USB 2 speeds.

    • I'm guessing you bought it for $60.04 at OW. You should have cleaned Officeworks out.
