    Best VR title ever….just saying…

    • +1

FYI to all the PS vr 2 pc adapters are pretty much sold out on eb games, and almost gone on jb hifi. Harvey normal are on back order.

      • I almost for got the PSVR 2 has head vibrations lol had to update my psvr 2 since it hasn't been update in a while, and playing some Pavolov on the ps5 and damn!! heat shot vibrations shocked me lol.

        • EB Games almost all stores back in stock if you want the PS VR 2 PC adapter. https://www.ebgames.com.au/product/ps5/311252-sony-playstati…

          • @kungfuman: FYI guys if you have a motherboard with a intel wifi 6/bluetooth 5.0 chip built in like I do, it seems to connect both controllers but I have yet to test how well it works. The biggest issue for most people is internal bluetooth only connects 1 controller.

            • @kungfuman: verdit
OUTSTANDINGLY good. it give my quest 3 a run for its money, I have apparenlty a very good wifi/bluetooth card in my motherboard it seems, I have an intel wifi 6 with bluetooth 5.0 combined. and it runs those controllers insanely well beat saber in expert plus!! and it keep up!!

              • @kungfuman: Would you say it's better than quest?

                • @vinni9284: Wouldn't day its better but for things like beat saber it more than satisfying wouldn't play it for games that require 360 degree movement u need a wireless headset for that

                  • @kungfuman: Many have reported that the PSVR2 is a lot better regarding graphics quality vs Quest. Especially with the uncompressed video. Thanks for the feedback

                    • @vinni9284: o it does, the issue for me is that its not wireless. Alot of people though have bluetooth issues because of the setup they have in there pcs the biggest issue for people is the controllers. I was lucky I didnt' have these issues. From my prospective though I have quest pro controllers on my quest 3 so for me i get no tracking or drift issues, where is you may get this with the psvr because there is not inside out tracking. quest pro controller have cameras on the controllers themselves, so they work independently to the headset in terms of tracking. Where is the psvr 2 controllers requires the cameras on the headset to see them at all times. That being said Sony have vastly improved prediction on the controller tracking its very rare to get drift now. I was very impressed with beat saber tracking, The psvr doesn't struggle with 120hz either unlike the quest 3 that does. going from 90hz on the quest 3 to 120hz is very very noticeable the smoothness is insane. So for games like pavlov where you need to be in full 360 degree movement and fast movement I wouldn't swap my quest 3 any time soon for that, the psvr 2 though for most games is going to be outstanding though.

i started to play this again the other day with my quest 3 on virtual desktop with the AV1 setting because I have a 7800 XT now, and WOW!! i play it at max settings and I still get 90fps so smooth so beautiful!! and full wireless freedom!! When I finished this game back in the day I think it was a quest 1.

    • +2

Is the quest 3 worth it if i have a Q2 alrdy

      • +5

with a AV1 supported graphics card totally worth it Quest 3 does very well on wifi 6 with AV1 the quality and latency is night and day with AV1 I couldnt' believer how efficient it was untill I tried it. every VR game was better with virtual desktop on AV1 than WIRED!!! AV1 changes everything in a good way. for wireless VR pc gaming.

        • +1

          hmmm. AV1 wireless……
is it worth the $40 for Virtual Desktop?

        • I use wireless Quest link with my Quest 2 and it has worked flawlessly for years. Is this a Quest 3 thing or more your PC and WIFI?

          • +2

@smoothymcmellow: you will get so much more performance out of virtual desktop if you have a AV1 compatible video card. Quest link is defiantly inferior to virtual desktop even now.

        • +1

          what's av1?

          • +1

@AndrewMTG: google AV1 encoding for write up on the tech

          • +2

@AndrewMTG: av1 is only worth it if you have AMD card (current gen) - any Nvidia 3xxx or 4xxx doesnt really need it as other encoding is smooth.

        • +1

          This is the way.
Amazing. Don't waste your $ on the link cable, get virtual desktop instead.
Caveat being you need good connectivity both ends.

          • @Chenzo: U still need a good wireless network connection thats also important

      • I can barely play Q2. Headset moves constantly making the video blurry so have to readjust to get it in the goldilocks zone. Tried the top rated straps but without much improvement.

  • +11

good timing for the release of the PSVR2 PC Adapter

    • +2

How do we even get the damn thing? It’s listed as coming soon on every retailer, one day from release with no way to preorder or secure a purchase.

      • +1

I’ve read someone had gone to jb hifi and preordered in store

        • +5

          wow $94… ouch!

          • @jk82: Also add ~ $25 and DP1.4 cable and a $12 bluetooth dongle. Its reported that earlier than BT 5.0 have connectivity issues with the move controllers

        • I am surprised eb games doesn't have an exclusive with that

        • if you guys want this adapter I recommend you get it NOW its almost sold out every where. I was lucky to snag one from my local harvey norman because they were late to go live with it. Good luck if you want to go with jb hifi or eb games.

          • @kungfuman: I checked HN this morning around 11am it was only available to order, but not available in store pickup or for delivery. Did you get it at 9 when they opened?

            • +1

@spast1ka: I knew this was going to happen and acted by pre-purchasing the unit at JB hifi in person yesterday. Mind you that the pre-order website had no button to order, I queried it. Whilst they said that they can't give this to me prior release, they only had 2 units available. I reckon that they had limited stock around outlets to gauge its popularity. Obviously it sold out eveywhere and only available for delivery by August 27.

            • @spast1ka: yeah it went live and then what little stock they had in stock all sold out. They had almost nothing …..

      • +2

yeah thats a good question, EB has a count down timer, so maybe they aren't allowed to take orders until its out for some weird reason… I'll be trying to get from JB or Amazon (not even listed on Amazon yet)

        • +3

Just leaving this link here for the benefit of others:
          https://www.ebgames.com.au/product/ps5/311252-sony-playstati…

I initially couldn't find it because of 'adapter/adaptor' spelling differences.

          • +2

@wutang01: HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers and haptic feedback (other than basic rumble) features are not available when playing on PC. See playstation.com/psvr2-pc-usage/ for details.
well that's sucks….. eye tracking was the main reason why I would use my psvr on a pc

            • +2

@kungfuman: While I see your point, I wish to access Steam VR titles without purchasing a new headset (why I didn't buy the Meta Quest 3 during Prime Day).
I see this as a small extra cost to be able to utilise my existing gear on my PC.

Plus if I understood correctly, a Digital Foundry podcast/video mentioned that other VR headsets don't offer those features anyway?
              Edit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhpgT3dp2NQ

              • +1

@wutang01: I am defiantly not selling my quest 3 with pro controllers any time soon lol. the tracing on my quest pro controllers is better than anything I have used to date.

          • @wutang01: Out of stock wow people waiting till midnight for this lol Sony PlayStation®VR2 - PC Adaptor

            • @kungfuman: I’m surprised it’s out of stock. I didn’t think there would be demand / I would have competition!

Can’t click and collect for postcode 2000 and surroundings.

              • +1

@wutang01: yep you and me both by 12am when it went live many stores for eb games went out of stock. I was like wtf? lol then by 9am pretty much every where was sold out. I got a feeling people like the psvr 2 but want to use it on the pc :D I think future version of the psvr might have the adapter in the box might be a PS5/PC vr headset going forward. I just hope my bluetooth 5.0 chip in my pc is good enough for the controllers :D

    • isn't it suppose to come out this month?

  • Whats a good vr headset to play this on?

    • +3

This thing still blew my mind on an old HTC Vive, so honestly anything newer than that would be a great experience. For value - Quest 3 (or 2 if you don't mind a slightly older headset) would be your best option - although the PSVR2 might also be a decent shout.

    • +1

PS VR2, starting from tomorrow ;)
If you managed to get Quest 3 for $699 in the recent Prime day sale it’s the best all-round headset. Otherwise PSVR2 off FB marketplace for $300-$400, it has deeper blacks due to OLED lenses.

      • +1

Thanks mate, and works in my favour cause i own a ps5

        • That being said Half Life Alyx is not on Ps Store nor will it ever be. Only way to play it with PSVR2 is on PC by getting the PC adapter which releases tomorrow, as well a Display port cable which isn’t included.

      • peopel r selling their headsegs for $300 off marketplace ??

      • +1

        You wouldn't buy a PSVR2 over a Quest 3 if you don't have one.

      • it has eyetracking annoys me that they didnt' allow this feature to come through on PC.

    • +3

Be aware Quest 3S, a cheaper version of Quest 3 with a Quest 2 form factor, should be announced next month (and probably ship soon after). The main benefits over Quest 2 would be the internals (e.g. better graphics in standalone games) and better passthrough, though, so if you’re playing PCVR-only it may not matter as much. (Wireless quality may be improved though for PCVR wireless streaming).

Quest 3 would be better still, but more expensive. Some chance the Quest 3S launch might bring reduced prices on Quest 2/3.

    • if you want the best experience of alix you beast option is still a valve index

      • +1

Disagree, have used an Index and Quest 3 wired is superior IMHO. The sweet spot is huge and sharp compared to an Index.

        • +1

you won't get the finger movements in Alix with any other headset Valve designed the game for the index. on the index i have full freedom of movement with all 10 fingers.

  • +6

Interesting as the PSVR2 PC adapter releases this week.

    • +4

not sure why you copped a neg, it is convenient timing, especially considering it was used in a screenshot teaser thing on sony's website… they know what they're doing…

  • Played with the NoVR mod, was a fantastic experience and great way to play the game. No doubt VR is better, but NoVR is absolutely not to be ignored. The graphics alone in this game make it worth it to play on a good monitor at the very least.

  • For those VR haters like me, play this with the NoVR mod - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDPoSvf8K_U

I got this the last time it went on sale and played it with this mod - it basically turns it into what a new Half Life should have been, a perfect good old fashioned 1st person shooter.

    • Nay!

    • what a new Half Life should have been

a new half-life should have been an innovative new product - which Alyx absolutely was. NoVR sucks.

  • Old desktop with 6800xt is running very well with no frame drops, but with this new laptop with rtx4060 is having massive frame drops like a few frames every 10s or so. Cannot find out why, anyone has ideas?

    • +1

VRAM as the 6800XT has 16GB whereas the 4060 has 8GB.

      • Yeah that is true, but how can we test it’s the vram causing issue?

        • I don't have the game however check in the game settings under graphics/video where it gives you a choice to change VRAM. If it does, then change to 8GB on the desktop 6800XT and see if the FPS drops.

        • +2

An easy way to test VRAM utilisation on many games is to reduce texture quality to the bottom and only texture quality. Texture quality has minimal impact on GPU performance but reduces VRAM usage significantly. If the game performs well with the other settings up and texture quality down to the lowest, VRAM is a problem. Next one's that impact VRAM are: viewing distance, resolution, AA, however, they also have a notable impact on GPU performance, so not as effective for testing VRAM utilisation. There are apps that can test VRAM usage, the problem is that some games will add more to the VRAM if there is space available, not making it clear if you getting close to the limit.

Outside of VRAM, the RTX 4060 desktop GPU is significantly slower than the 6800XT desktop GPU, your laptop will be slightly slower than that. I was watching YouTube video of Half-Life Alyx and RTX 4060 laptop and it was regularly dropping to 60fps, and you'd want a minimum of 90fps for a stable feeling.

        • Thanks guys. I think my issue is different, it drops crazy even before the game and in the steam vr room

      • +1

@fan8956 get HWInfo and look at the "GPU Memory Usage" line when playing a game - if it's at 100% then it's likely causing the issue as any overflow gets swapped in and out of your system memory

  • +1

I watched a playthrough on YouTube as I couldn't justify the outlay of a vr system just to play this game specifically, it was very compelling.
I've heard they've started work on HL3 or something akin to it, fingers and vortigaunt chest arm crossed

    • +8

The only way you'll experience VR is to have one. No youtube clip will immerse you in the VR experience.

      • +1

Absolutely agree, I can’t believe how incredibly immersive it is and how flatscreen gaming just seems so dull.
Resident Evil Village totally freaked me out like nothing I had ever experienced before. I cannot wait to play this in VR and wouldn’t waste it on flatscreen or watching someone else play it

        • +1

I assume you haven't played Red Matter 2? Try that if you don't mind puzzle games. AFAIK it has one of the best graphics in VR. RE4 is good too

          • +1

@vinni9284: Yeah I played Red Matter 2 after Horizon. Two awesome stunning VR games.
RE village was the next game I played and although not as graphically stunning it just really got to me. I never really played horror games so maybe I’m soft but man that was just so damn well done and scary as hell. I had to stop after every 30 minutes.
I’ve got RE4 but haven’t started it yet. I try not to start another game before finishing the last one but Vertigo 2 is taking longer to finish than expected.
But once I get the PC adapter I think I’ll break the rule as I’ve been dying to play Alyx

            • @choofa: If you want a scary game, try Madison VR. Many posts on ppl believe that it one of the most scariest gaming experience. The immersiveness of the VR adds profoundly to the horrific jump scares! I went to JB today and pre-purchased the PC adapter. They said that they have 2 already in stock. Tried to convince to grab it off them whilst I was there however they said to come back tomorrow to pick up. Looking forward to jump on my PC to play Half-life Alyx and see the difference. I also still have the PSVR connected to my PS4 and awaiting for the free camera to PS5 adapter which is taking forwever. 2 months and waiting from Sony. Cheers

    • +6

I got Quest 2 back in Covid days when it was pretty cheap and played HL without looking at any footage of it earlier.
My god, it was an experience that I wish I can get back, I dont understand how no one has made a similar game since.
It was definitely worth the $500 i paid all up just to play this game
found few other decent one as well but nothing this good, think the walking dead was second best for me

      • +2

yeahr where is the more triple aaa vr titles that aren't gimmicky

  • what is the best VR setup and reasonable price for this? PC

  • +1

Only game I've fully played through in VR, was a fantastic experience. My quest 2 is now a beat sabre machine.

  • My pc sucks. Can i download and play with my quest 2?

    • Unfortunately no

  • Is there a recommended VR module to buy just to play this? Or wait for a better VR to come out?
    My PC has a RTX3080

    • rtx 3080 can play this game just fine

    • Look for a meta quest 3 vr headset
If you just want something cheap try a quest 2 maybe second hand

  • Would there be a way to play this game, if I only have Macbook Pro and Meta 3?

I noted this game is Windows only on Steam… Thanks

  • kinda gives hope that half life 3 will be released outta no where, just like this one…BOOM!!! there it is
