Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 8 (Black or White) ~$578 Delivered ($557 with Cashback) (RRP $1500)

290

Sorry to turn OzBargain into B&OBargain (!?), but this is significantly cheaper than the deal posted yesterday (and less likely to be cancelled IMHO): http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/86562

Yes, it's still an expensive iPod/iPad/iPhone dock even at 1/3 of the price it used to sell for in Australia, but I think there's actually some value here considering the built-in DAC, sound quality, design/build quality, and resale value of B&O products in general. Potential downsides are the older 30-pin dock connector and lack of built-in AirPlay.

Quidco, which is a UK cashback site much like Starthere and Buckscoop, offers 4% cashback for orders at Expansys UK — for this order the cashback is GBP13.83.

So sign-up for Quidco, visit Expansys from the Quidco link, make sure you're at Expansys' UK site, search for "beosound" and select the black or white version, and select "Rest of World" under Delivery at checkout. Express delivery (3-4 days) is GBP30.95, or you can use FedEx for GBP65.00. VAT should be automatically deducted, bringing the total before cashback to GBP376.78 = ~AUD $578 (add a few % more depending on your payment method).

Sale price for these ends midnight December 3 (UK time).

    I don't own an i-device.

I was hoping that this could play MP3's via a USB but this one says it used mini-usb.

What a shame, I'm willing to go out on a limb and say the sound will be good for such a small device.

"I was hoping that this could play MP3's via a USB but this one says it used mini-usb."

If only someone would invent an adapter that converted mini-USB to regular USB…

There are also AUX line-in connectors if for whatever reason USB doesn't work.

  • Success, bought one.

Cheers gooddealmate! Thanks for alerting us yesterday that these were available at a discount in Europe. :)

  • OP: I'm not sure how u are getting $578….are u paying by paypal as my figure ends up being $608
    Thanks

    • +2

PayPal uses a crappy exchange rate, skimming a few % off the transaction — the cheapest way to buy this is using a credit card that doesn't charge international transaction fees and uses a more favourable exchange rate like 28 Degrees (http://www.28degreescard.com.au). Then again, you might like the additional protection paying by PayPal might afford.

The final price at checkout should be GBP376.78 = ~AUD578 on the current interbank exchange rate. Add a few % more depending on your payment method. :)

  • if you dont need this for portability, that amount of money could get you a whole lot more. the sound quality can only be so good with these docks

And until you try it, you will never know how good it is.

  • So what's the difference between this and a cheapie iPhone dock?

I'm not knocking it - it seems to be worth it with how a lot of people here seem to believe this is a great deal, but I don't understand what the difference would be. Obviously clarity, but I've never had an issue with a cheapie dock for clarity (and I'm a bit of a stickler for high quality songs).

Would it play bass more effectively or something?

    • I would reccomend going into a store, and testing the unit out. Good bass good clarity. The style comes at a price too.

It's not the bass as expected in a Sony muteki, beats speakers, etc. but a lot clear, and clear at high volume.

you buy B&o the same reason you buy a high end car like a ferrari
sure it looks nice and it has awesome specs but you really just want it so
when people walk into your house and see the label
they think, damn…. this G has cash stacked sky high

  • It sounds really good for it's size. I regret negotiating it out of my contract when I bought my car (the dealership was offering this dock for all new cars sold).

  • Sorry guys, just got this email from Expansys — looks like this deal isn't to be, either. :(

    Marked as expired.

      Never bought anyone nice before?

      • +6

I've bought some nice people before, usually only for the hour.

Can import songs as lossless, should be as good as CD, but still way behind vinyl.

  • +5

Just for consideration, if the size, form factor and overall design of B&O isn't of concern to you then you can build a very decent hifi system for about the same price. I'm thinking a pair of Usher s520s and a cheaper Amp/AVR.

It's not exactly as alluring as two circles joined by a rectangle, but it'll give you bang for buck in terms of sound quality, and there won't be as many compatibility issues.

  • Just got this via email….
