Vodafone network is bad. Signal is intermittent on the train to cbd and in some areas in the mall.

      • I think JB in Westpoint and some other malls I forgot. Always had trouble pulling up my digital license and email re click and collect. Had to go outside the store to load them

      • No JV, you meant “which areas” ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    • All networks lose signal on the train to the CBD. Dunno why nobody has fixed that yet, guess it's hard to fix signal for 1,000 moving people every 5 minutes.

Vodafone network is rubbish to be honest. I was on this plan for 10 months, cancelled with early exit fee. On many occasions I had to use hotspot from partner's prepaid 4G network having paid $69 per month for their non existent 5G.

    • Have you paid both 50% of the monthly fee and the prorated voucher credit for the remaining months of your contract?

      • +2

Yes, received bill with two exit fees. One for the voucher and one for remaining term. About 1100 in total.

    • +3

Works fine for me in Sydney 99% of the time. I have my partner on Boost for the 1% we go that Voda is poor. As has always been the case, pick the network that works for where you venture. Its the only real answer. Ironically there has been a few times we both had to use the Voda because Telstra had localised issues. Mobile has always been like this.

If we early terminated the plan, do we still get the discount like the Jbhifi and Harvey Norman ones? If so, how much will the cost be?

    • -2

      What discount?

      • +15

        the

    • No, the Vodafone contract is clear that you need to pay them an exit fee for early termination that is proportionate to how many months you have left (e.g. 12 months left, you pay them $950, based on repaying half the $1,000 plus paying out the contract).

  • What is the cancellation charge at vodafone once u receive the phone and cancel within first month?

I did this deal two years ago with the iPhone 14 Pro. I won’t be doing it again. When my Vodafone contract expires next week, I’m porting to Telstra.

Vodafone reception outside the cities is poor and Telstra now do $10/day roaming for the countries I need.

    • The difference is though that Telstra only gives you 2gb a day for that $10. I’d blow through that in one public transport trip in whatever country I’m in. This is actually the main reason I’ll be going the other way, switching from Telstra to Vodafone.

    • Outside the cities is a bit like going to another country.

  • +7

The real reason to get these plans is if your work will pay for some (or all) of your monthly mobile plan, but won’t pay for the device.

These plans basically hide the device repayments by giving you that $1,000 off. So every bill just looks like you’re on a normal $75/month plan, but you get a cheaper new iPhone.

If that’s you, and you can live with the poor reception in some places, this is a good deal.

    • Agreed

    • +1

Exactly this. I get $100 allowance for phone as max I can claim a month. Has to be a phone bill - cannot claim device. Past few years been doing 36 months device repayments and upgrading every year. Selling to mobilemonster usually covers most if not all the device payout.

  • +2

I think you can get $1000 off with the $69 a month plan too, not just the $75 a month plan. Also for early termination:
"Early Exit Fees (EEF) apply to your plan as it is a 24 month contract. Your EEF will be calculated at 50% of your monthly plan fee x months left on your contract. Plus, if you signed up to a 24 month BYOD Plan from 20 September 2021, there will also be an Early Exit Fee on the $1,000 or $650 credit, based on the full credit amount divided by the 24 month contract term and multiplied by the months remaining on your contract term."

  • Do not go on Vodafone there is no coverage, looking to cancel early

  • +3

ACCC has approved Optus and TPG spectrum sharing so in coming months the coverage should improve.

    • So would this mean you would be with Vodafone in name only? (ie using a combo network, whichever is strongest in your area)

      Or have I misunderstood?

      • +1

In simpler terams, It only means where Vodafone doesn't have coverage they will use Optus wireless network and vice versa. Its only network sharing where needed.
        From the above link:

TPG authorising Optus to use spectrum which it currently owns, and Optus providing TPG with network services by way of active mobile network infrastructure sharing in certain regional areas, which comprise of the Australian population coverage between 81.6% and 98.4% (the Coverage Area)

TPG and Optus will continue to operate their own mobile networks in metropolitan areas where around 81.6% of Australia’s population resides. TPG and Optus will also continue to operate their own mobile core networks

Just checking I understand the maths, I think buying on a plan can make sense, I haven't in years.

    $1800 / 24 = $75, that's easy.

iPhone 16 starts at $1399, so if it's $1000 off that means only $399

    $399 / 24 = $16.625

    So your phone plan costs $75 - $16.625 = $58.375 (*24 = $1400).

Or you flip how you look at it, it's $1400 for the phone, anyway, so this is a 24 month plan that's only an additional $16.625 a month.

Seems ok to me, depends what else is out there, is this maths how other people do this?

    • +1

But don’t forget that with gift cards u can get the same phone at job hifi for 10% off but u r valuing the phone at face value. So u may be better off with a yearly sim and buying a phone outright. Depends on circumstances.

    • +3

Why are you subtracting $16.625 from the monthly plan?
Total cost over 24 months will be
(Cost of plan) + (cost of phone)
      (75x24) + (1399 - 1000) = 1800 + 399 = 2199
      Comes out to be 2199/24 = 91.625/month

Or looking at it another way, you are buying iphone at full cost of 1399 and getting this plan at 33.33/month for 24 months

      • Hi, thank you, so I assumed that the $75 p/m plan would be including the repayment for the phone, if it doesn't then I see what you did there.

  • How much is the fee to cancel plan after a month? Is it worth it after that?

  • +2

I've only got 1 month out of 12 left of Voda and counting down the days. Don't join them.

  • Seems you can’t use this offer until the actual release date as carrier offers require you to be able to take the handset on the day. Ie does not work with pre order

  • +3

There is another plan with $69/$1000 off with vodafone. Which is better deal than this one.

  • How about this new deal for only 16 pro phones
No lock in contract , if you cancel your plan then u just pay device cost and first month plan fee thats all. So u dont have to get stuck with plan but they give u phone credit month to month . All up 1299$ off month to month. So 1299$ / 36 month plan =
36.0833$ every month . If you stayed for 6 month and you don't want to stay with vodafone then u just pay remaining device cost and Firstter month plan fee since your plan is month to month . U can check in their terms and conditions.

  • I have this plan currently and I often wonder what people are comparing it to. Most people here seem to be on prepaid which doesn't have a cellular option for an apple watch so I'm probably not going that way. But at 33 a month for a 2 year plan, $5 a month for the watch and $5 a day roaming I cant find a better deal anywhere. My coverage is fine and my wifes current Telstra work phone seems to have the same weak signal where we live so I cant see the value there - Am I missing something?
