I'm tempted to pull the trigger… But…my old tv is still working fine

This one little trick the RBA hates…

  • great TV if it turns out OK

    • +3

These aren't box damaged… These are actual refurbs or returns or something

  • +2

These are seconds not box damaged though, does that mean they're returns with issues that have been fixed ?

    • +1

I think they r seconds which have been fixed, i bought 65' last year, and that the best tv so far, i owned the lg 60' nanocell, but this sony is about 20% better overall

  • I assume seconds just means some audio buzz or dead pixels.

    • +1

It says it should just be aesthetic issues, guessing like bumps or scratches.

      • +2

Could handle a bump or a scratch but dead pixels is a no. I doubt it would be that.

I bought one of these, did a firmware update and it bricked itself, lasted less than an hour

Same here, with a similar Sony model.

Ended up going for a 65 TCL Mini-LED, paid ~$1.1k and absolutely no issues.

Yeah same here, I researched for a week after my old SONy KDL-55W800C stuck in bootloop, was almost ready t obuy X90L 75" but then saw TCL c855. paid a few hundred more (got very good deal) with 3 years warranty

I had a Sony refurb, died after a month. No image on screen. Repair came out with replacement screen - it was cracked in box. Complete replacement sent by Sony - Screen was cracked in box. Replacement sent again. Refused delivery as had been rolling around in back of delivery truck, box all beaten up.
Took 3 months to get a refund. Fck Sony.
Bought a Hisense and light bleed was that bad had to return.
Now have TCL Mini LED. Great TV :)

surely they provide an unbricking service under warranty.

    • +1

That's surely covered by the warranty though right?

  • Sony are the 1 brand that people seem to say have a good enough processor and OS setup to run without needing an external box (Apple TV / Chromecast etc). Would this TV be OK for that?

    • Yup I still have a X90F that runs great and that was on Android TV.

    • Yep have an A90J thats a bit of an older model now but still runs great. Bit laggy at first startup if i try and quickly scroll through the main screen but only for like a second or so.

    • I have the X93E and still runs ok, a bit slow at times but even supports dolby atmos output to the soundbar on some apps despite being HDMI2.0 !!

    • I have the Sony 75x9500h its Os pretty slow would recommend Apple TV over the Sony OS anyday.

It’s a no from me. Tv started playing up just outside the 90 day replacement window. Told me I’d have to have it repaired by a tv technician. Sorry that’s bullshit, refurb or not. Spend the extra few hundred and just buy new

I would have given this a go, but doesn't post to Perth by the look 😩

I bought the last deal for "factory second" and it came brand spanking new with no issues or even box damage (as indicated).
Perhaps these refurbs are different as they've already gone back for an issue so could be "lemons".

  • my last TV purchase was the 65" X90 as a sony second from this official ebay store. box and unit were simply perfect. the 1080p upscaling to 4k is an amazing way to watch streaming services and I'm really happy with it. I play AAA PC games at 4K 120fps via HDMI 2.1 with it.
Matter of fact, I'm so happy with it that I've pulled the trigger on the last 85" X90L they had in stock in their ebay store. Gonna play space marines 2 in glorious, fluid style.
Thanks so much for the refurb code, OP!!

  • No post to Adelaide either

    Not everything that glitters…

I bought one of these and the sound was so out of sync it was unusable and then they were utter pricks to deal with. Beware.

    • I had a similar experience unfortunately.
