    negotiated

Thanks TA! Awesome when some of our top posters use their influence for good and help their fellow OzBargainers grab a great deal!!

    • Hi, would this be good for a year 9 student or too heavy at 1.78 kg? My daughter dropped her HP laptop, still usable but really painful to use as one of the hinge is out. Thanks in advance.

      • That's pretty heavy in part because it's a big laptop. A T14 is about a pound lighter.

  • +11

    wow!
    828 after code
    704 after cashback
624 after TRS (TRS calculated from full price 899)
is that a (enough) bargain ?

    • -4

      What trs

    • +4

Won't the purchase price be $828, so the TRS is calculated based on the GST portion paid (i.e. $828 -> $75) ?

      • oh yes sorry it will have the coupon showing on receipt,,, :(
i was thinking like those ebay promo codes, the invoice is still showing full
        629 ish then

      • +3

also cashback is usually calculated minus GST so ~$112 off $828 = $716. Still pretty good!

      • +1

Depends. Some sites list regular price on their tax invoice and I got extra refund in this way a couple of times…

    • TRS is only within 60 days right? Grrr, I'm travelling end of Nov…

    • In theory you can't bring it back with TRS but how can they know? 😂

  • +4

    the usual question:
ram and ssd are user upgrade-able?
    and hdmi version?

    • +16

      https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/ThinkPad_E16_Gen_2_AMD?M=21M…

      • Two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots, dual-channel capable
      • Up to two drives, 2x M.2 SSD
        • M.2 2242 SSD up to 1TB
        • M.2 2280 SSD up to 1TB
      • HDMI 2.1
      • -3

& what does this means? upgradeable or not?

        • -1

It means yes. AJT gave all the meaningful information.

But also if you don't understand and can't be arsed figuring out even the first bullet point, you are probably not the kind of person who should even be seriously asking this question as you will never upgrade the laptop.

  • Windows 11 Home :(

    • +7

The ThinkPad E16 Gen2 is certified for Ubuntu. So that's probably the better option.

    • +12

      This will help: https://massgrave.dev/

    • If you need Pro, just install Pro unlicenced. I'm looking at an unlicenced screen right now and the watermark is barely noticeable - how much time do you really spend in the lower right corner of your screen?

    • What's wrong with Home?

      • No remote desktop

        and

        idk

        • You could get AnyDesk and tweak settings to secure it.

  • I just bought this laptop last night. I got a shipped email with an hour of shipping but the order page says it is unshipped. I'm wondering if it's worth the hassle of cancelling and reordering to save $70

    • +2

They'll charge you with a re-stocking fee if you cancel now, happened to me last time

  • I hope Lenovo has improved product build quality. Is it still made of plastic body ? My last laptop broke at a joint of screen and keypad after 3 years (of normal use).

    • +3

Go for T series or above instead. These E series are usually built from plastic, which is why they have lower prices.

      • +1

my work laptop is T. do you think we can feel the difference of built materials between E and T series ?

        • +2

Yes, and the weight as well. T (spec for spec) is lighter - in my experience anyway.

      • +5

        I'd 100% rather buy a second hand T or X series than a new E series tbh

Depends on which series you buy.

E series is their bottom of the barrel models, best suited for being left on a desk.

  • Anyone know what the battery life is like?

    • +3

Only 47 Wh so not going to be fantastic

  • +10

    Thanks TA is there a 14 version :-| ?

    • +7

14 inch version would be great!

      • -3

        thats what she said…

      • -1

43cm even greater. Bring it once, use more comfortable size all-day
46cm Razer Blade 18 '24 Best 45.72cm Laptop for Portability (Gaming or General Use)

    • +3

Would love a 14 inch version too!

    • +2

      Second this. Would love a deal on a 14" @tightarse ;)

  • +1

    How heavy is she?

  • -4

    are these any good?

  • if only this has Graphic Card like RTX 4050/4060 in it… :(

    • +4

No Wukong for you David :P

    • +7

perhaps you should buy a gaming laptop instead of a business grade laptop

      • this E series is not business grade its the lowest

      • Student grade. Students too play games.

    • Then buy a P series and spend 2 grand on it.

  • what the heck just bought one …

    thanks OP.

    • wow shipped already! must've really had a surplus.

  • Can we earn in Rewards and still be eligible for cashback @tightarse? It automatically included as the Lenovo Rewards but not sure if we need to cancel this first?

    • +1

      This is totally fine 👍

      • Thanks, bought!

  • Missed that TA was a part of TC, will give them a go now!

    • +1

      Full story here 😊

      • @tightarse I just joined TopCashback for this deal. When should I get a tracking email?

        • +1

Welcome to TCB!! Just checked API reporting for this promo. Lenovo cashback is taking around 60-70 minutes to land in member accounts.

  • +5

45% NTSC. Damn. If only it was the standard quality 72% NTSC (99% sRGB).

    • +5

      45% NTSC should be illegal

    • Was about to ask how good/bad is that screen, so its sh|t, right?

      • It is slightly brighter than the norm, and a higher resolution. But compared to a base model TV or monitor, or a mid-range laptop, the screen is missing about 1/3 of the colour. To loosely simulate this, you could open an image in any free photo editing software on your PC and then reduce the colour saturation by 33%. The image will turn visibly grey. That's what these screens are like 24/7.

        • +1

I feel like that's a bit unfair. Side by side with another laptop it'll be noticeably less rich / vibrant, but on its own I find you get used to monitors that have poor coverage and it really doesn't matter much unless you're working with photos and/or printing out colour regularly.

          • -1

@CarbonTwelve: Even the cheapest monitor has 99% sRGB. This laptop screen has about 65% sRGB. I was never comparing standard monitors to high-end professional monitors.
I've used laptops with this colour gamut, and it's noticeable the entire time. Everything looks dull/ grey the entire time you're using them. Your desktop, icons on the task bar, websites, etc. You can see it the whole time. There's a reason they don't make monitors or TV's with this low of a colour gamut.

            • @Viper8: OK so maybe I jumped on this deal too quick - but I'm currently on a HP Pavilion L1M30PA i3 bought in 2016 and according to Google it is 1366 x 768 maximum resolution, 220-nits brightness and 45% NTSC. So bummed it's not much of an upgrade but I can probably handle the washed-out colours.

Was originally looking at 3k OLED laptops for ~$2k but don't need that for my usage I guess.

            • @Viper8: What if upgrading screen to the 2560x1600 IPS, 400nits screen?

              • @Duckie2hh: That is 100% sRGB, which is about 72% NTSC. This is in-line with a standard desktop monitor or TV. And realistically this is all you need unless you're doing professional editing. It's an expensive option though as you're also paying for a higher resolution, and brighter screen.

  • +2

Any Lenovo with good graphic card? 4060 +

    • Second this. Would love to see a good gaming laptop deal.

      • 3 this. would like LOQ 4050 as minimum legion even better

        • 15-20% cashback plus at least 16G ram and 4060 plus video card laptop is welcomed. around $1200 before cashback will be ideal.
