  • Haven't the prizes already been drawn?

    • don't think so.

I just got this for $93 from Officeworks Chadstone

They had a HN catalogue stuck on their boards highlighting their better price on another item. It had a listing for the same WDTV Live for $98. So got the 5% off :) .

So hopefully this should be $43 for me if this gift card comes through.

      • Just bought one from HN Greensborough Plaza.
They gladly price match OW of $99.

There are still plenty in the basket behind the cashier.

  • Umm looks like its over. Winners names are announced on website.

    • +3

Wat the heLL??? So its a competition?? Not all purchased gets $50 gift card?? Got me all cheered up!!

      • Updated to correct link, get excited!

        • Oh!! HEKTIC!! I just revoked my +! Cant seem to vote again??

Btw is there a limit of how many per person can claim?

NICER POST!! Gonna buy 3 tomorrow for the family

        • No idea, office works wouldn't put names on the invoices instore. Just claim under your family names :)

        • Seems like i can even buy 5!!

"Multiple entries permitted, subject to the following: (a) only one (1) entry and claim permitted per specified Eligible Product purchased during the Promotional Period; (b) each entry and claim must be submitted separately and in accordance with claim requirements; (c) a maximum of five (5) entries and claims per person throughout the Promotional Period; and (d) each entry submitted must be substantially unique."

        • +1

Btw anyone purchasing more then one should always buy seperately to get individual receipts for successfull claim..

        • Can anyone confirm you need individual receipts on different names to successfully receive the cards?
I was thinking about buying three for overseas gifts and collects the tax refund at the airport. Alternatively, can I get a combined tax receipt from OW for individual purchases ?

        • So you want to get three individual receipts from OW, then comeback and say can I get a combined receipt, and by the way I am keeping the three receipts? I don't think any legitimate business is going to give you more than one receipt for the same item.

        • Buying three will be $3 shy of the $300 threshold for the Tourist Refund Scheme.

  • AWESOME!! So thats $50 !!!
    Gonna buy 3!!!!

??? Looks like its leget not a compo???

"Every valid creative entry will receive a $50 gift card.

PLUS be in the running to WIN a $1,000 gift card for the most creative answer."

  • +1

Yes Ive been looking at this didnt get a chance to get to OW today. Not a competition everyone get a $50.00 card. The comp is for a $1000 gift card. From the site :"You'll also have a chance to win the major prize. The most creative answer will win a $1,000 gift card."

  • +3

The $50 giftcard is a winner. Bought mybook live in oct, poor timing.

    • Time to buy a wdtv :D

  • So the $99 officeworks deal is out of stock, anyone else selling them as cheap?

    • You sure it's out of stock? I just tried and it says in stock (Brisbane postcode) otherwise just try in store. You could also get it sent to a family member and get them to post it to you? Please note only valid for Comp Now, Harvey Norman, JB Hi Fi, Next Byte, Bing Lee, Officeworks, The Good Guys or Dick Smith.

FFS bought for $129 about 3 weeks ago. no cashback, no $99 ARGH

    • +1

That hurts!! "MUST BE REDEEMED WITHIN 14DAYS OF PURCHASE"

    • You think that's bad I missed out on that $1000 cash splash and the $1000 student cash splash in the same year because of how my taxes were done

  • +3

    WOW!Thaks O.P.! I just got one from last week's bargain!Perfect timing!Lucky i kept receipt and box!
FYI when you write the short message about the product don't forget this:
Each answer must also include the following information:

    Mention “Western Digital”
    Mention the Eligible Product purchased
Mention a benefit of the Eligible Product

    • +2

No problemo! I posted the office works deal too haha. I will add that info to post, ty sir.

      • +1

        Thanks!!! (spelled correctly this time)

  • Yeah online is out of stock, but looks like in-store is still a goer for Melbourne at least. There's gonna be a mad Ozbargainzers rush to OW stores tomorrow? =D

    • Im buying 5!!! Christmas pressie for my 5 brothers n sis!! Wohoo

    • I think online stock maybe based on your location cause it still says stock for be in Brisbane area. Office works deliver directly from their local stores using an office works delivery van

      • Yeah, none available online for Melbourne, the message I get is:

Sorry - we were unable to continue, please check the following messages
WD TV LIVE STREAMING MEDIA(WDBGXT0NBK) is out of stock online. Please call 1300 633 423 to find if this product is stocked in a store near you. The product has been removed from your shopping cart.

But when I check in-store stock, it looks fine with lots of "In Stock" against each store…

        • Oh ok damn :(. In store prob the only way to go then

  • I currently have my TV with a a 2TB External HDD for all my movies and tv shows. Has anyone gone from the external HDD setup to the WD Live TV? What are the primary benefits over my current setup?

Any advice would be appreciated :)

    • If your TV and external HDD plays hi-def .mkv and/or whatever files you want to play then it may not be worth switching. The main benefit of this device is for streaming your videos from a computer to your telly.

      • No worries, thanks heaps for the response :)

  • Although wonder if any other retailer will come to the party?! Come on!!

  • The fine print states 'Promotion excludes WDTV Live Model No.: WDBAAP0000NBK-AESN'. What model is this?

  • +1

The promo is advertised in the current PC & Tech authority.

$50 for a great media player - damn good !

  • BIG problem - they want a photo of the box it came in - mine is on a tip somewhere - can anybody upload a copy please.

    • +2

Found this from ebay for ya: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIzOFgxNjAw/$T2eC16ZHJHQE9nzEy85kBQvEBYCQNQ~~60_3.JPG

      • +1

Hero - thank you so much.

        • You're welcome

  • +1

It does not look like the $50 is guaranteed as they could reject your answer:

"must answer in an original and creative manner, using twenty five (25) words or less, to the question: “Tell us in 25 words or less how the WD product you have purchased has improved your digital life this Christmas?” (such answer, the “Answer”). Each Answer must also include the following information: (i) Mention “Western Digital”; (ii) Mention the name of the Eligible Product purchased; and (iii) Mention a benefit of the Eligible Product. Each Answer will be individually judged based on originality and creative merit. This component of the Competition is a game of skill and chance plays no part in the determination of the winner."

    • +1

It does read a bit funny but I'm pretty sure that's got more to do with the $1000 comp. This is the email I received after submitting.

      Hi XXXX,

Thank you for your entry. Once your entry is verified, your gift card should be delivered within two weeks to the address you provided.

      • I dont think so, the main page also says:
"Every valid creative entry will receive a $50 gift card.
PLUS be in the running to WIN a $1,000 gift card for the most creative answer."

So they could say that your entry was not original or creative enough for the first $50.

        • +2

I haven't read 1 fine print by any company that doesn't say they can do almost what ever they want.

While they could deny giving a $50 gift card based on creativity, that is not the purpose and I don't see a company like WD scrooging their customers.

The true purpose is to get around the legal requirements of competition permits required in various states for Games of Chance (eg: randomly selecting 1 person for the $1000 prize). "originality" and "creativity" are almost standard terms in these type of "25 words or less" competitions. They effectively help make it a Game of Skill exempting the competition holder from paying for permits. This works out better for us and them as they pay less, and the total prize pool won't be eroded by fees.

There is also the benefit to them of limiting their liability by preventing people exploiting holes in the competition.

It also gets people involved and thinking more which has been shown to increase participation rates.

        • I agree 100%

  • bought the $99 one last week !

    • +1

promo started 26/11 - you can still claim it :)

  • Maybe get JB to price match Officeworks. They have it listed for $135.

+1. I was trying to get 3mb images in. I changed them to 1mb for the receipt and 500kb for the box and it worked

where's the good place to buy My Book Live?

  • Am I right in understanding that these newer models are pretty well locked down and encrypted so you can no longer add in Hulu+/iPlayer/Netflix etc to the version sold here in Oz?

    • Good question. Can anyone answer this?

      • Netflix installs with the the US firmware update. Change the DNS to tunlr (184.82.222.5) before you update the firmware. Hulu doesn't appear to support this model, yet.

        • Thanks Steptoe. I got Netflix working last night. I've had about 2 hours sleep. It's going to be a looong weekend :-).

        • How many Icons do you get in the Services Tab. Using tunlr DNS I see 26 icons, but no Hulu. Wonder if UnblockUS DNS would have a different result?

Wanted to give Hulu a run, so if anyone's got setup info…

        • I get Hulu with Unblock US.

        • So you get more icons that 26? Tunlr allows Hulu as I've watched from the website.

        • 28 services icons with Unblock Us. Hulu and Pandora being the additional two.

        • What did you use for the credit card details? Your own?

        • Be aware that Tunler no longer supports Netflix. So you will need to use a paid DNS solution. I tried Tunler and tried and it cannot connect to Netflix. With Unlock US it works fine. Can also confirm that Netflix appears fine with local AU latest firmware. Just no Hulu +.

Its funny they have a picture of the live streaming but only support the unit before and the hub. Sure it will be supported at somepoint though im sure ive seen people post they have it.

        • Sorry how to do unblock US? Thanks.

        • Go here and sign up for a free trial.

          http://www.unblock-us.com/

Follow instructions which is simply changing the DNS settings to the one they give. Power the unit on and off and then sign up for a free trial of Netflix to check it works.

        • Thanks much for ur info. So once trial finished then we cant use it anymore? Talking abt the unblock us. Thanks.

        • I still cannot get Hulu + I'm running Unblock US and changed the DNS. I get the 26 mentioned above but no hulu + or pandora. If i were to of done the default firmware update would i still get all 26 including netflix?

        • You then pay for it. $4.99 a month. Decent deal really i think.

        • Hulu is $7.99 a month

Unblock US is $4.99 a month

        • +1

          I was referring to Unblockus.
