A few days ago when someone posted the Amazon deal, I wasn't happy because I just bought the WD TV live stream at JB for $98. Now I am glad I got a better deal. Thanks OP.

  • -4

I guess if you only pay $49 you won't be as pissed off when it locks up every week or so, right ?

    • +3

I've had mine for over 12 months without a lock-up. Maybe you got a bad one. Good time to give it another go :D

    • How small are your files? I can't still submit.

      • around 200 kb

"Thank you for your entry. Once your entry is verified, your gift card should be delivered within two weeks to the address you provided.

        • Thanks. Got my total files down to less than 200kb.

  • $44 with staff discount!

    Thanks, OP :)

    • under the T&C's of the offer

excludes employees of the Promoter or any of its related corporations including Western Digital Inc. (“Western Digital”) or any of their agencies associated with the Competition or any retailers of Western Digital products

The "staff discount" on the receipt would make this ineligible…

      • You make a great point.

Thanks for the heads up. Greatly appreciated!

      • what about APS employees who get 5% off at the local OW?

      • What if you have a discount card from one of the stores that don't sell Western Digital products that are part of that group?
It also says "Employees" it doesn't say anything about Employees spouses or families does it?

  • Can we use ing everyday card in any of mentioned stores to get extra 5 %?

    • As long as you're paying by Paywave i don't see why not.

  • Thanks OP!

Just picked up one from Officeworks North Ryde - they're opened till midnight. There's none on the shelf, they've got them behind the checkout.

  • Thanks great find! Is there a limit on how many can be purchased? I'm hoping to buy 2.

    • 5

      • Thanks JV.

Multiple entries permitted, subject to the following:

          (a) only one (1) entry and claim permitted per specified Eligible Product purchased during the Promotional Period;

          (b) each entry and claim must be submitted separately and in accordance with claim requirements;

          (c) a maximum of five (5) entries and claims per person throughout the Promotional Period; and

          (d) each entry submitted must be substantially unique.

looks like you can only claim one of each item per person… so just use another family member to claim the other.

        • Ah crap that's how i was reading it as well. Guess i will just buy another in my parents name and return the other one. Good thing i didn't buy from dicksmith! Officeworks return policy is great.

        • There's nothing there saying each person can only claim one of each item.

Para (a) says you can only claim once per product.

Para (c) says only 5 claims can be made by a single person.

        • I will give it a try and see what happens. I now have 3 though guess my dad is getting one for christmas haha.

        • you can claim up to 5 per person, 1 claim per unit serial / receipt.

        • Awesome thank you.

        • You can claim 1 per unit serial per TYPE of product. IE: One person can only make a claim for ONE WD TV.

  • AWESOMEEEEEE !!!! I just put in my entry , i received an email immediately saying ' Congratulations , you've won a $50 gift card' Once verified it will take approx 2 weeks to deliver. Max 5 entries per customer

  • Been trying for a while already. Tried IE, Firefox and Chrome and nothing works. Picture size is about 400KB each.

    • -1

Same here. My pictures are bigger (2.5mb each) and it's bugging me. I've emailed them - I'll let you know what they say if you're still having the issue.

      • So… they never replied, but I tried uploading again yesterday and it worked.

  • Any suggestions between WDTV live streaming vs Apple TV? I have an ipad and like to mirror to my tv.

  • can anyone confirm does it play RMVB file ?

    • +1

      i don't think it does…

Are you serious? Do people still use that Real Media BS?!

    • No it doesn't

    • It doesn't unfortunately.

  • +1

I can vouch for re-sizing your photos. I re-sized them to under 350kb & worked straight away - before that had tried a dozen times & got server error.

    • Thanks. I resized mine to 84KB and 92KB and it worked.

  • Dear OZBs,

    I'm planning to buy "http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Home-Entertainment/Media-Players/WDBGXT0NBK"

Can I use this to display my PC screen onto TV via WiFi connection? Please advise.

    Thanks!

    • yes you can - on your computer hit SHIFT/PrintScreen then open WORD (if you are on PC)and hit CTRL/V. Right click image/save picture as "PC SCREEN" (JPEG will do) and place in folder. On your WDTV Live scroll through to folder and find the image and click OK. You should see your PC screen. =7)

      • Not exactly sure if this is the answer he was looking for!!!
Were you asking to simply dump a pic of your pc screen onto the WD to display as a photo?
(if yes, then advice above is fine!)
Or trying to 'live' stream your pc screen wirelessly?

        • snoop - name so appropriate.

and yes snoop I think immumo meant something like clone/extended desktop type of arrangement from PC to TV - with functionality, and not the horseshit I wrote above.

To the answer - I wouldn't have the foggiest as I don't have a WDTV. I hazard a guess that the answer is no as it's likely to have it's own GUI, vis-a-vis a media centre.

    • I meant like airplay mirroring.

      • No it can't.

  • Should have kept that receipt :/

  • +18

Thanks OP, I just spent an hour searching for my receipt from the $99 one I bought last Friday. Couldn't find it anywhere and then remembered I threw it it in the rubbish. Luckily it's bin day tomorrow and the receipt was at the top….. yep, totally bin scabbed for $50 haha

    • +1

Priceless - hope you remembered to wash your hands afterwards :-)

      • +1

Absolutely! Felt so shady doing it, but hey, $50 is $50!

    • +1

Lol awesome, perfect timing for ya!

    • You don't care about your warranty? lol

    • why would you throw a receipt for an electronic product you bought just a week ago in the bin? I keep everything in case it's needed for warranty purposes

      • ….I am not a smart man, I will keep them from now on lol

        • +1

          Good one, Forrest

  • What's a $50 gift card!? Gift card for where?

    • +2

EFT Pos Gift card that can be used anywhere where there is a EFT Post machine. Virtually everywhere.

  • “Tell us in 25 words or less how the WD product you have purchased has improved your digital life this Christmas?” (such answer, the “Answer”). Each Answer must also include the following information: (i) Mention “Western Digital”; (ii) Mention the name of the Eligible Product purchased; and (iii) Mention a benefit of the Eligible Product.

It's impossible to answer this question because Christmas hasn't happened yet.

Is "WD TV Live Streaming" sufficent for the name of the product or do we have to say its full name "WD TV Live Streaming Media Player"?

    • +1

It's pretty hard to fit it all in 25 words, huh? I just said WDTV Live SMP. Should be fine.

  • Im trying to find a practical reason for buying this but dont think i can find one ><" so what are these things exactly?is it just like a storage device that can transmit audio and visuals onto your tv through wireless?

  • +3

It's Xmas time at Ozbargain! Thanks again for both deals Cloudsdbz!! Really enjoying the WDTV Live :-)

    • Haha no worries

    • +5

The next person buys the ones you've claimed on, they try and claim too, WD systems red flag it, WD staff investigate and if you're lucky they cancel the cards, if you're not so lucky they press charges over the fraud.

      • -2

That is if you refund before the promo closes.

    • +5

If you do that, then you screw over the next person who buys the unit. Don't be evil!

  • +2

Wasn't interested in the $99 deal as I have the non streaming one working well with a USB wireless dongle. 50 bucks makes it hard to resist…

  • If I have a ps3 and a hd tv that plays most media files . Whats the benefit of getting this media player ?? Need to find a reason to buy this :)

    • Buy it as a Xmas present and give it to someone doesn't have a PS3

    • It's a bargain!

    • Same here. Ps3, 360 and a Smart TV… There really is no reason for my to buy this.

      • Not really… Unless you have a lot of stuff the PS3 can't play or stutters when streaming wirelessly. In my case the WD TV supports Mac formatted drives so that's something my PS3 can't do.

    • This can play MKVs natively. The PS3 can't. A large number of TVs can't either.

  • I'm in the same boat as a few others…already have WDTV's in the theatre and bedroom, plus a pc in the family room.

The worst part is, I will look to price match at TGG with some left over gift cards (20% off at AusPost), making this $30…arghhhhhhhhhhhh!

  • oh my, thanks op :) I want to go down to office works right now :( first thing in morning I guess… shame about online being out of stock, I am pretty lazy.

    • No probs mate, you will love it

  • I just picked one up from Officeworks in Keswick (Adelaide) on my way in to work. There were 4 others on the shelf when I left.

  • Picked up mine @ 8am from Officeworks in Elizabeth Street (Melbourne CBD). There were still two left on the shelf at that moment.

  • +3

Woo! Thought I'd missed out until I looked at my receipt… purchased on the 29th! What a great day :)

Edit: "Where did you hear about this promo?" "A friend" … I love you OzB <3

    • I did the same couldn't find a better fit for OzB so I put it down as a friend :P

I did also do the run to find the receipt and check the date thing.

  • I just bought two from trinity gardens in Adelaide. They've got at least 40 left

  • What sort of things are people writing? Anyone that has claimed willing to share?

  • +1

Done, got mine at Officeworks Fitzroy Victoria. None on the shelves when I got there but still 26 left in stock apparently. Just asked one of the staff to bring one out for me. Already sent off my redemption. Bargain!

  • I almost bought this, but then read that it has no skip forward/ backwards 5, 10, 15 seconds. I'm so used to this functions when watching videos on my PC, it is an absolute must for any device I would buy.

    • Apparently you can - something about pressing forward whilst fast forwarding. Check the other thread.

      • Could you provide a link? All I know is that you can only jump forward/backwards by at least 30 seconds. That's too much of a jump especially when watching sports.

    • Agree totally. I asked the same question in a previous thread and someone said press fast forward and then right arrow but further down mention that it only does 10min skips which as far as I am concerned is useless. If you buy the original WDTVLive (non-wireless) and run BRad firmware you do get (from memory) 15, 30, 1min, 3min, 10 min, 15min, 30min, 1hr. I have this unit and it's great

  • I just bought 3 of these from North Ryde Officeworks, they just received plenty of these, i think they still have about 20 left , ask staff if you cant find it on display.

  • Threw my receipt out yesterday. FML

    • Go back to the shop where you bought it from. If you used a credit card, provide the number. The cash register system should be able to print out another receipt for you.

      No harm trying for $50~!!

  • +2

I can never understand why folks "throw out the reciept"
Its shows proof of purchase and really good for warranty or returns claims if needed also possible for tax deductions etc.

    • Now I know :(

Never again will I throw a receipt out.

I guess it's bin dipping time.
