Went looking for a Nexus 7 today and managed to get a 32GB for $230 with no real hassle. Price on website $299.

This is the cheapest I have come across both here and on Whirlpool.

      • This is amazing price, how could they sell the table at this low price?

        • +2

they bought the table from the as-is section at ikea…:)

  • No luck at the merrylands store- best they can do is the advertised $298

  • +2

No luck at price matching in jb holmesglen either. manager thought the price might have been a fake or for display units only.

the manager seemed to know about ozbargain, i think management might be wising up to price matches. could be an email going around jb stores warning about ozbargainers

  • I just tried at Cannington WA and they refused- said that it could be a number of reasons why the price was so low (below cost according to the sales guy):

    • possibly a deal handed down from upper management to make a particular customer happy after a bad experience
    • possibly a trade (because the payment was split between cash & card)

He couldn't get in touch with the Rockingham manager to confirm so he was coming to his own conclusions.

But it was likely that they just didn't want to price match when they were going to lose money. He offered a price of $299.

Also tried Good Guys Cannington WA and it was the same story, way below cost and the best they could do was $295.

Good luck to the rest of you!

JB Dandenong could only do $280 - but JB Knox will honor this deal if you bring in a print of the receipt; I now own a Nexus 7! Good luck fellas.

I'm still on a non-smart phone, so this touch screen is newexcitingwild!

    • Wish I lived on that end of town!

    • +3

I just went to JB Knox and they said no way they'll pricematch it to $230, would you be able to send me a copy of your invoice for me to try again? Thanks in advance!

    • Could you pls share the image of your Knox receipt
      Thanks

Just called the manager, Mat at the Rockingham store in order to get to the bottom of this. He was able to confirm that this is not a hoax in any way, and that the receipt is legit. He said that the deal was done to appease a customer that had wanted something that was unavailable. I asked if this was the 16GB model that Kogan was selling for $230 and he said that it was not. What is your recollection durx? He seemed a little upset that this had been shared on the internet, and said he had emailed all stores at 11 am this morning to let them know that this deal was indeed done as a one off.
I am pretty annoyed that the stores I visited today seemed to be acting dumb, and accusing this of being a scam, and I guess that would make me some sort of scammer by association. What happened to the customer being right? What happened to brand consistency? The stores I went to are a short walk apart, had different marked prices and come down to different prices when I pushed them for their rock bottom.

    • +1

      It's not the 16gb model, it's the 32gb one

    • +2

The way in which it played out was as follows.

I called asking for stock of the 16gb one. I ended up speaking to the manager as no sales people were available.

I actually asked him if he could match kogan. I then got cut off.

I went to store spoke to sales guy. Explained I had been speaking to manager and got cut off.
Asked the sales guy his best price. He said we can do the 32gb for $230

That was essentially it. I at no point asked anything further. I was not told of any stock issues etc with 16gb I was simply offered the 32gb. All I was really seeking was a kogan price match.

  • Just tried to get them to price-match at JB HI-FI in Camberwell, VIC. Guy was a prick and best they could do was $270

    • Store manager at camberwell store was a prick as well. Best they could do for me was 280. Best to avoid this store

  • +1

To clarify, I know this deal is for the 32 GB Model. I asked him if the product that the customer wanted but was not available was the 16GB one. The case at my local stores is that they only have the 32GB model which would put me in the same situation, wanting to match the Kogan deal for the 16GB, but with Jb only having the 32GB model.

  • Went to BING LEE as mentioned earlier. As expected, FAIL! First person I spoke to said $280. Then another salesperson quoted an even HIGHER price, $284.50. Don't know why I bother with this place anymore…Booooo

  • +1

Someone should go to the rockingham store to get one, since they did sell one for $230.

  • +4

got it for 230$ from EB games cityX@adelaide. Showed them the JB Hifi receipt and they price matched it. Should have shown them the 225$ receipt from good guys =.=

  • If everybody posted up their receipts, we should all take copies to the stores en masse. What a killer that would be for the doubters!

  • I went to Glendale (NSW) this afternoon at 3:30pm. I was offered a $296 cash walk-out price (just $2 under current so-called "special price) so I said, "Will you price match another JB shop?" I showed him my copy of the receipt pic and he ran to get the manager.

He reappeared in about 3 mins and said they would not match it for two reasons:
    * 1. The wholesale price their shop outlayed was $277 per unit &
    * 2. Their was an email communique from the OP's store manager saying it was a one-off deal done to appease an unhappy customer.

I now notice that my local Good Guys (Andrew Robertson, Warners Bay, NSW) has gone to $225 today to match the OP's posted receipt. I'll head there in the morning.

    Cheers.

    • +3

now we all know durx has good price-cut skill

  • +2

I work in IT at Jb, and if a customer came to me with that price i would say no. Mistake for sure. I can't really see any sales people matching that to be honest. Good price but, good pick up.

This is because there could be other reasoning to which this was sold at that price.

  • Just called my local JB store, there is apparently a memo sent out to all stores about this deal being a one off and the guy told me that they will no longer be honouring this deal, bummer!

  • No good at DFO Canberra either. Said that the receipt is a fake and the lowest they would do is $295

    • +1

      Fake receipt really. Unreal

  • +1

I am disappointed the way in which the stores are playing this out as a "issue" so a discount was given.

This is not true, the price offered an accepted, simple as that. I believe they are contradicting there price match policy by not doing this deal for people.

    Shame on you JB

Disclaimer: Despite the "REP" tag, I am not an official representative of JB HiFi and my posts are not to be taken to be directed by JB HiFi whatsoever, consisting entirely of my own thoughts. I'm simply a lowly salesperson following the rules of OzBargain.

As previously mentioned the memo sent out basically said that it was a one off deal and that it shouldn't be used to price match, some salespeople obviously haven't read this or have misconstrued it and due to it being ~$45 below cost assume it to be fake or there were some other circumstances involved. They're not making a direct attack at you or your credibility.

There is no price match policy stating that they will match particular deals given so I don't see how they've broken anything, god if every customer who received a one off price or a discount for an issue posted it on OzBargain and they were to follow such a policy, JB would long be broke.

Good on the people who were lucky enough to receive the deal, commiserations to those who missed out, hopefully a deal nearly as good will come up again.

      • +2

Cheers Scott I understand, I also didn't mean to cause JB any hassle. I just assumed with the ease of obtaining the price it would be no hassle for people to price match, obviously this isn't the case.

It was posted with genuine intnetions on allowing people to obtain a better price that was all, normally there is margin in these type of units. This has been a win for me and a few others.

I love JB and will continue to shop there.

        Thanks for your post Scott

      • well i for one don't like being treated unfairly by a store would rather buy from google at RRP+ postage then have to deal with JB.

it seems there is no consistency when buying in store anyway.

        • There isn't consistency because not every customers circumstance is the same. Its not unfair in the slightest.

        • The were no circumstances attached to this purchase, I asked if they could price match Kogan on the 16GB and they simply said we can do the 32gb for $230.

          Simple

      • you should tell your bos on your price match guarantee policy, can you mentioned that price match can be apply for some promotional that advertised at the store or ads nationally. any once off deal, can't be use for price match

  • +1

Don't understand how a deal can get 97 positive votes without anyone successfully purchasing one except OP

    • +2

There has been plenty of purchases from this post,

plus a few who have got it for 225 from a few retailers

  • +4

I had success at EB Games by presenting both the $225 reciept from the Good Guys, which they wouldn't match and then durx's JB reciept. Got one for $230.
I am disapointed in the way JB has handled this. They owe me nothing and don't have to match this price if they don't want to or can't, but they should own up to it and just say that this was an error at the Rockingham store, or that the deal can't be replicated because of their failings, not because I wasn't giving them good enough evidence or was trying to scam them. I'm the customer, give me the benefit of the doubt.

    • Out of curiosity- which EB games store did you go to? Are you able to post your receipt? Thanks

  • +3

I've been told a memo was sent explaining that it was a one off customer issue. Not everyone gets the same deal… life?

  • Confirmed to work JB at Mount Druitt, NSW

    • After originally voting the post down. Typical

    • +1

not even the tightasses on ozbargain deserve to go to Mount Druitt.

  • Went to a few JB's and they won't match it. They've got the memo about it being a "one-off".

  • +2

    Thanks OP.
JB highpoint/maribyrnong agreed to match this earlier today without any real issue — a very happy nexus 7 owner here!!

  • +1

Can someone post a receipt from Sydney

  • +1

I hope this helps. I purchased mine yesterday for $225 from The Good Guys Electrical.
Copy of the docket linked below
    http://www.freeimagehosting.net/q8u2a

  • Has anyone successfull get it for $225 in WA store ? If so, can you please upload the receipt ? Thanks

    • Is the $230 docket no good for you ?

      • I am sorry, I was asking whether someone else in WA managed to get it for $230 as if I bring the receipt to JB in WA, they gonna said it is a once off deal? I will be trying at Good Guys.

  • JB Hi-Fi Helensvale came to the party today after showing the OzBargain post on my phone, thanks durx for the heads up, $230 is a sharp deal for the Nexus 7 32GB.

  • +1

My local officeworks guy says they will only price match prices that are officially displayed / advertised eg. store or in catalogue. They will not price match price matches. So as the JB Hifi docket is not an advertised price they did not accept it.

    • Invoice posted by Plough didn't mention anything about price matched other competitors? Unless you tell OW otherwise it could be just a negotiated pay less pay cash price. + to OP as long as it creates Ozbargainer a bargaining opportunity, doesn't matter if it is a hit & miss. Don't neg unless you truly know the purpose of visiting this website.

      • See top right hand corner under delivery instructions

        • u r right. Then might have to look for Rhys W from Warners BAY TGG or JB hifi Rockingham to do the same deal.

  • JB Casaurina NT is a joke.. They wouldn't even price match Kmart Premium Wii U for $378. I was looking to buy a few games with it also.

  • Car-la-la, could you please post your invoice. I went to JB in Highpoint (near the good guys) showed them other invoices which posted on the forum and with no luck :-( their response is that they don't match price with interstate store. They ask me to show the invoice which purchased from Highpoint store. It would be great if you can help. Many thanks in advaced.

  • +3

No offence. But your going about it the wrong way. Print these bargain pricematching invoices out. Go to where you intend to buy. Then before showing them the invoices ask them do they price match and what are the conditions. If then and there they don't mention interstate stores or what ever else they can make up at the time show them the docket and stick to your guns. I only went to 2 stores here in Newcastle and they both priced matched the original docket that was posted last week. First was office works but they were sold out and only had the display model and I didnt realy want that unit. Then I went to the goodguys. The first haggle got the price down to $250 from the $300 price they had listed. It was only then I showed then the jb invoice for $230. They then went on to beat that price by $5.

    • can you post your receipt of officeworks please?

      • Plough didn't get it from officeworks, the nexus7 was from the good guys

        • oh yea…sorry for confusion. Tried at 2 officeworks at melbourne CBD and none of them ready to price match/beat. They were ready to price match/beat price available on jb hifi website..

  • Just walken into our local EB. They had 1 that had been on the shelf for a few months, so wanted to move it. I just walked in and asked if they'd sell it under cost. Walked out 5mins later using Good guys receipt for a 32gb nexus 7 at $225. Woohoo

    • can you post your EB receipt? I'll go to them this afternoon with your receipt.

      • I hope things doesnt go the way that it went for me at an EB store- I asked if they matched other EB receipts, the sales assistant guy said yep definitely, then I showed him the receipt and he said it should be ok BUT he has to check with manager first then BOOM, Bob was definitely not my uncle. Next best price? $275. Bah.

        • I know this price is way below their normal selling price…But i'll give it a shot in evening now.

  • tried at eb games, melbourne cbd but failed.

  • +1

thanks for sharing. successfully price matched $230 at EB games george st in sydney.

    • do you wanna share your receipt, i can try at another EB Games..

    • +1 for share. I wouldn't think a CBD store would be so willing for business. Also if you successfully price matched, why didn't you up vote?

  • I bought 2 more of these from a JB hifi today in WA.

    Both at $225

    • +2

Its so easy to buy these cheap in WA :(

        • Thanks man. Does anyone know how many days it takes to reach parcel to Melbourne from WA and what does it cost?

        • It could take a couple of days. The device contains lithium battery so it can only be transported by road. Make sure you put a 'Road Transport Only' sticker on the parcel.

        • thanks jackofspade for information.
durx - i don't think i'll get N7 before Wednesday even if you post it today. Hence not putting you in trouble of posting it. Thanks a lot for your offer to send me N7.

      • If its not a hassle, could you help me toooo :D

        I too, am from Melbourne!

Would be happy to share postage with cniminc for an extra unit!

    • I had no luck so far. Tried several different stores. All in Joondalup WA area. Where did you buy them? Rockingham again?

      • May be you can ask durx to post one for you.

  • +1

Plough thanks for your invoice and guidelines I managed to purchase N7 32gb for $225 at Brimbanks EB Games Victoria. What I did was call the store in advanced ask if they have N7 in stock. I then went ahead asking for price match and what the conditions were. Then I told the salesperson person that I have receipt as proof, she told me to bring it in. 20 mins later i got my N7 :-)

PS. no need to print out the invoices just save it to your phone.

    Thanks so much!!!
    MERRY XMAS TO YOU ALL!!

    • you r real tiger of victoria. can you post your receipt?

  • +1

I m at rest now. Just got 32GB from EB Games for $230 without much of hassle.

  • Can anyone post a receipt for a purchase in Sydney? I called around a few JBs and they wont price match as they were interstate. Also went to an EB and showed him the Adelaide receipt but he said because it was a price match and from interstate he couldnt match it.

Cniminc, which EB games did you get yours from?

    • +1

I got from EB Games, Prahran, Melbourne. First i showed them EB games receipt from Adelaide, he said they can't price match EB Games. Then i showed him JB hifi (WA) and good guys (SW) and he agreed that these are not fake, hence he gave me for $230.

      • Guys,

Could you please post the receipt from Melbourne

        Thanks in advance

Well done. And the place were you purchase it from will get the money back eventually through your next purchase. After all you will go back to the same place if you had a good experience there before. Next week I have to buy a laptop and at the top of the list of shops for me to visit are the Good guys at Warners bay.

        • Great.. Get laptop with some amazing deal and post it here..I'll again buy that laptop with some price match..:D
