1212

Went looking for a Nexus 7 today and managed to get a 32GB for $230 with no real hassle. Price on website $299.

This is the cheapest I have come across both here and on Whirlpool.

For those not following the endless Nexus 7 posts how about mentioning the normal RRP or closest recent bargain price you beat with this deal. What am I saving here $5, $50?

[thanks for the update - didn't realise they had dropped so much - waiting for more Nexus 10's to come out right now myself.]

    • +1

RRP for the 32GB N7 is $299 on the Ggole Play Store.

      @ OP. Did you haggle?

      • +13

Not really, I said can you get anywhere near Kogan's price. He literally just said "ill do the 32GB for $230" I said "done"

        • +1

Nice one. Great deal. Now to patiently wait for the 3G version to hit our shores.

    • About how long do Nexus devices usually take to get sold other places than Google Play in Australia? I'm hanging out for a Nexus 10 as well and I might bite the bullet and get it from Play store.

      • even the Play store has no 32GB - since launch. I have read they have restocked the US store a few times but not the Aussie Store.

  • +5

Congrats but I think you got lucky. The sales person obviously made a mistake.

    • Yeah, I have doubts about getting this anywhere else. Kogan doesn't sell Australian stock do they?

  • -1

Could you post a pic of the receipt from the front angle so we can see it easier + show it to JB staff without issues. Thanks!

    • +10

Just use the 'rotate right' function on your phone or PC.

      • +1

Rotate right function on the Phone. 'Like" that !

  • +2

Anyone else manage to successfully price match?

  • Will officeworks price match this?

    • I think OW will only price match an advertised price, can anyone confirm this ?

      • +1

don't count on OW price matching all the time. there's a thread in the forums about it:

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/84452

      • +1

This is a contracted deal, has to be advertised, doesn't qualify for a price match… :(

      • I have had OW pricematch other store receipts before in the past. I guess its just lucky who you get.

  • Sorry guys one silly question…
Do I just need to show the receipt to JB so I can get such a good deal?
Or I need to go somewhere else for a price match?
    Thanks!

    • +2

Use it as a bargaining chip when trying to haggle

  • does the wifi version have gps?

    • -6

I think you'd need some form of internet for GPS, and if you are on the move you wouldn't be able to get wifi unless you tether it. By GPS you mean something like google maps right?

    • yes it does

  • I have got a location fix on Google maps with my Nexus 7 and no Internet connection. I was very surprised. It didn't let you do any searching but it did fix my position.

    • +2

gps doesn't need internet connections to work

      • +1

It helps A-GPS though - my original SGS was absolutely useless without a data connection, and only moderately useless with one.

        • Yeah and that's because the original SGS was well known for its GPS issues.

        • +1

yeah, I tried to take mine back but mistakenly used the GPS on that phone to find my way back to the store I purchased it from, and never made it!

  • good deal

  • +3

I must admit its good deal. I am wondering, why we have such a high RRP here.

Yesterday only, I was looking for Samsung Galaxy Note 16 GB WIFI. RRP was around 580. I made bargain with Binglee and they offered me 535. I used that price and bargain at GoodGuys - Auburn and they offered me in 525.

I again use it as base price and bargain @ JB HiFI - George St, Parramatta and got 518 as price.

So just few phone calls and price has down to 518 from 580.

*I haven't purchased it as I am looking for 500 as price so I can go for samsung 100$ off to get tab in 400 AUD :) . I will share bill if I get one in short time.

    Thanks

    • What's this $100 off you speak of?

      • +2

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/84971

Samsung $100 gift card offer. Till 23 Dec. Limited to 5000 entries.

        • Thanks. Too bad that doesn't apply to the Nexus 10. I was hopeful, seeing as it's also a Samsung tablet.

        • -1

Why would anyone want to buy a Nexus 10? .. they dont even come with a MicroSD slot .. u are stuck with whatever memory is inside and that it..

        • -1

Because it is currently the best android tablet spec wise on the market right now sans sd slot.

I reckon that 32gb should be fine.

        • Maybe there are people (me, for example) who value many things over extra storage. 16GB is plenty for me. I'm not even using half the space on my Galaxy Nexus (also 16GB). By the time I need more space I'll have another tablet from the future, that magically also has more space.

        • Quote "Why would anyone want to buy a Nexus 10? .. they dont even come with a MicroSD slot .. u are stuck with whatever memory is inside and that it.."

You can say the same thing about an ipad

        • +2

Ipad's don't need justifications to not be purchased.

    • Good job. Definitely beats my skills. The sales person at JB wouldn't go lower than 549 :(

  • Thanks a lot ! May buy one for my wife to replace her laptop, with kid you don't have time to sit in front of a computer .

  • +4

It's a good deal but did anyone else manage to get it with that price? Otherwise why high votes for someone's lucky catch?

  • +2

Did anyone other than OP bought it or price matched it for 230?

    • +1

Not sure that it helps but I had a mate over east price match this the morning @ Southlands in Victoria.

He said that it was no big deal, guy checked with his supervisor and ok'd it. Didnt need a print out just showed the image of receipt I sent him the same one posted here)

  • Good bargain.

  • This is very close to the lowest price for 16GB WIFI version, which is $215 (as I know).
    Good bargain!!!

  • I checked at my local JB-HI FI (Glen Waverly - Melbourne) but they said the best they can do is $261. They said the price on the invoice posted here ($230) can be for a display piece. It's below their cost price and they cannot sell it for that price.
Good luck for others who want to try.

  • +1

JBHIFI Bundall said this is a scam. They said they looked up in their system and the cheapest device sold at Rockingham WA was $275. They refused to come close to matching the price.

    • +3

they are the one that scam you mate, you should complaint to your local fair and trading department, they don't honour their own word, who can fake that receipt?

      • +2

I'm not wasting my time with fair trading for a $40 discount.

        • -1

so don't waste your time to post in here as well then

    • +6

I doubt it. Why would the OP does such a thing just to save us a few bucks? Most likely, the staff at Bundall did not want to match the price.

      • +2

Maybe it's a scam, maybe it isn't. Doesn't matter, the point is that not all JBHIFI stores are accepting it.

    • +3

Pretty impressive if it is a " scam".

The crumpled receipt, the "diagonal" angle. Must have been pretty hard to match up the fudged numbers and the angle….

      • -5

That's what I said. But they claimed their computer system can look up sales at other stores and they said this sale didn't exist.

        • +5

          See me new comment below.

I certainly do NOT like the insinuation that this is something I have made up. This is a community of people trying to help other people. Not cause them problems.

        • +1

I don't think RG necessarily thinks this, he's just letting us know his experience and what his JBs claimed.

        • +6

A bit of advice. Don't believe everything a salesmen tells you.

        • +2

Thanks Evil-Elmo. The OP thinks I'm attacking his integrity, I'm not. I'm just stating what happened at another store.

        • -1

so, who do u referring as a scammer on your earlier post? the op or jb ?

        • Totally agree - especially if the person is commission based rather than flat rate salary based..

Example: asked local JBHIFI store if they sell 600D bodies only - salesperson checked his device 'we don't have it stock, no other stores have any either'..

Called cbd store 30 minutes later, was told they have 40 in stock, had one set aside by a friendly salesperson and went to store next day to pickup (whole process took 2 minutes from walking in to paying at register)..

        • +6

Apparently you're a bastard for reporting what the store said. STOP TRYING TO HELP!

        • +2

"JBHIFI Bundall said this is a scam"

        • I shall remember, JB HiFi Bundall is a big scam

    • I've never had much luck with the Bundall Store price matching items that are a really good buy. Always found the staff I dealt with hopepless and never interested. The recent i7 laptop deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/82481 wouldn't be matched and was scoffed at.

However at the Mermaid store, always found the staff helpful and this deal and the i7 one were given without any negativity. Staff ran the deal past the manager who gave the ok.

      • Mermaid store never bothered to even call me back.

  • Thought this was for the 3G version lol

  • +1

I can assure you this is no scam, I will post another picture of the receipt.

I have uploaded it to Dropbox. Seriously guys is it worth this much trouble for me. I am just trying to help. @RG your so ungrateful

    https://dl.dropbox.com/u/45910/photojb.JPG

    .

    • +1

I'm not ungrateful. I posted a fact. It is a fact that JBHIFI Bundall said this was a scam. You may be extremely sincere and honest that this is not a scam but it's important that people know if they go to their local JBHIFI they might be wasting their time.

      • +1

Dude the receipt is there in black and white, there obviously not telling the truth.

        • +2

It doesn't matter whether they are telling the truth or not. This is what they have said and done.

        • Perhaps they were giving you a "good enough excuse" for them not to price-match for you?

    • +1

Hey Durx. Don't worry about the haters. They must be sore that they can't get the same deal as you.

You did great: posted the photo of the receipt (TWICE!). Don't be riled by what people say.

      • +6

"haters" = "reporting what the shop said". OzBargain genius at its best.

  • +6

My Dad just got one at the Mermaid Store(Q Superstore).

    • +2

I would imagine there wouldn't to be much hassle neither, thanks for sharing dude

  • +6

Not sure if this really should be considered to be a deal but one thing for sure is that its great that durx shared with us that the current lower limit for the nex7 is $230.

  • +2

btw, price match is not a bargain :)

    • +1

if you got a successful price match it becomes a bargain for you.

  • +2

OP - thanks for posting your deal. I believe yours was a bona fide deal.

It just sucks that there isnt a hard and fast rule that all JBs will match that price …… do I or don't I take the trouble to drive 25-30 mins to a JB and give it a go? Actually I'll pop into a Bing Lee and see if they can do a deal. Will post here if they do.

    • +1

      dont bother

      • Why didnt you post earlier! You were right, I definitely shouldnt have bothered.

  • +3

This post reminders me the deal for ASUS Transformer 32G with Dock for $369 about 1 year ago. It was also from JBHIFI and a lot of people tried to match the price in other JB Stores, including me, and they refused to match and also sent the notification to JB stores all over the country.

  • walked into Homecenter artarmon jbhifi .. NO DEAL! …they said the lowest they can go is $289 so not sure if its worth a plus as your odds are very low

  • +1

    I called bankstown and boardway,

they won't price match, cheapest they'll do is… kogan $259 ( only at boardway ).

    bankstown arn't helpful at all.

  • +1

I called a few stores that wont budge even though I stated the receipt was from a JB store and not a competitor.

One guy even told me that the best price was $295.02 down from $299 lol, awesome.

    Moore Park
    Bondi
World Square - the instore price was $314 even though the website has it for $299, go figure.

Well done to do the OP for getting this price.

  • +9

Someone managed to get it for $225 LOL
    http://www.freeimagehosting.net/q8u2a

    • wow that's a good price.. should i try my luck at the good guys

    • Printed off the good guys invoice and tried it at artarmon goodguys they couldnt match the price :(

  • -3

Maybe we'll see post apocalyptic sales in a few weeks when flesh-eating zombies, demonic hell-beasts and K-Pop rules the world and getting one for $10 or a piece of bread will be possible?

Instead of calling it the Google Nexus 7 it will be called the Ghoulish Necrosis 666

  • -5

I don't think this is a deal should be posted in the forums.

  • Tried the deal at Warringah Mall, Manly. Best they could do was $298!

    • That's the sales persons way of telling you "not in the mood to haggle"

  • +7

OP deserves a +, he found this deal and shared it. There's no promise or gurantee others can get the same.

AND this is not his fault, its all JB's discretion at local stores.

It is not a scam, just because you don't get the same deal

  • +2

Castle Hill NSW - JB, no deal.
He knew about the OzBargain post, said it was in WA and to try my luck there.
    Boo!

  • +1

I am getting this tablet for $199 from PLE tomorrow..

the catch? have to spend $299 or more in store..

    hihi
