Though it is often misleading or false, propaganda isn't the opposite of truth. It's used to influence or persuade people in support of a particular agenda.
In this case, it's US propoganda from both sides of their political spectrum infecting Australian's heads, thanks to our exposure to US social and traditional media.
Being a third party, I'd hope Australians would be able to keep some perspective rather than getting completely entangled like heaps of people in this thread.

Actually that law came into effect in 2018, with Trump in power, and it's for medical procedures deemed medically necessary.

According to this site the law was in effect while Trump was in office and inmates were receiving gender-affirming care under his presidency. No surgeries (what I assume you were referring to with transgender operations) were performed on any inmates/immigration detainees during that time (the first surgery for an inmate happened in 2022, no record of it for illegal immigrants).
The site also iterates that no illegal immigrants had received or sought gender transitioning surgery under Trump or Biden's tenure. It also says that Trump's statements on the costs of such surgeries was hyperbolic (at least 5x the actual expected cost($50,000 vs $250,000).
I don't think <100 people receiving the specialised care that they need in the prison system per year is the big political divide that should be focussed on. There are for more pressing and important issues.
And the liberals want to have children below 18 go for gender affirming surgeries without telling their parents!
