Does it cover the cost of a dsg rebuild or mechatronic replacement?

    • -1

Lol.. yeah mate.. full engine rebuilds

      • +4

        Perfect. Signing up now. Cheers

    • +2

I wont buy VW because of the headaches i had with this

      • +1

        Industrial rubbish!

      • +1

I'm surrounded by VW, and I think they make great vehicles. But the DSG has never say well with me, based on WHEN things go wrong (not IF).

Autos are cool, too. But I'll still be buying manual for the limited amount of time they still exist

    • Looked like for the services only. $730 for 4 services. I am not 100% sure . Anyone can tell?

My gearbox was down 2 times already. (

      • +1

I sold my 2018 plated Tiguan this year (60k kms) because the Mechatronic died the second time four days after of getting replaced. First time, it took 6 weeks to replace. The second time it took an additional 4 weeks. Ten weeks all in all.

If it wasn't for the dealer's "extended warranty" (cost about $4300), it would have cost upwards of $7k to get the Mechatronic replaced.

Immediately after the 2nd failure, I drove the Tiguan direct into my dealer's, handed the keys over, and walked across the street and placed a down-payment for a Mazda CX-5.

When the Tiguan finally came out of the shop, I sold it back to our dealer.

Sidenote: The same model of transmission has been used since 2016 and will be used until the contract runs out in 2026. The Tiguan's transmission (DQ200 and I've seen some forum identifying it as DQ300) is shared with the Golf. Polo, Econovan, the Amarok have different model.

VW are good cars - people like to moan about Euro cars on here and most of it is warrented but VW will last if you look after them

i'll even throw Skoda in the mix for decent value for money (which is essentially a VW engine) with a 7 year warrenty

    • +3

Ditto like anything else, people write when it goes tits up (which is fair) but count the ones where it doesn't go wrong and balance is reached
Skoda are awesome we have a Kamiq just brilliant

      • +4

Had my mk7 golf for almost 10 years. Zero problems.

The two commodores I had before that…….

        • +1

Likewise, my MK7 which I’ve owned since 2018 has never given me an issue. Drives beautifully.

      • @hack - I had a Skoda Kamiq. Great car but the infotainment/vehicle was buggy af and Skoda Australia nor 2 dealerships I took the car to were any help.

Had to eventually self diagnose the problem for them and eventually got rid of the car.

As much as I enjoy VAG vehicles I was so infuriated with Skoda Australia/VW lack of assistance I vowed never again.

I'd sooner call Gerry Harvey a saint than give VW any of my money ever again.

        • +1

Just sold my golf recently. Nine years with no out of pocket repair expenses. No squeaks or rattles. They are very high quality vehicles. DSG is the best transmission i have ever driven. Dry clutches on previous models mk7 and below is a real issue but the rest of the car is bulletproof. Had mine replaced 2 times under warranty/ good will in 140k. The new Golfs use torque converters in non gti/r golfs and they should be bulletproof and long time keepers but nowhere as a good drive as DSG models. VW has gone expensive so I switched to another brand.

    • +2

Should go into the Tiguan Club Australia group and see the weekly DSG failures.

Mine died at 60k, 6 months after warranty expired. They honoured the parts out of good will, but I had to pay for the labour, and DSG fluids.

They covered me for the loaner X Trail for 6 weeks.

    • It's all VW running gear just the cabin is different. We bought a Kamiq brand new in 2020, it was brilliant, really great little car. Sold that and upgraded to a Tiguan Allspace when bub #2 was due, and are stoked again, it's such a comfortable car. Wife is Dutch and I am by descent so tall people, and there's plenty of room in both rows.

    • +1

Skoda in the mix for decent value for money (which is essentially a VW engine)

It's not "essentially", it IS a VW (and Audi) engine and gearbox, suspension, brakes and a lot of the switchgear. That is how VW can give reasonable value for a nice car. Lots of parts sharing.

I fitted my Octavia with GTI brakes & RSB, Golf R intercooler and many other VAG bits.

The issue I have with VW product is that VW fail to admit there's a problem when multiple vehicles have the same failure. VW parts prices in Australia are extortionate.
As a buyer you need to be an expert on the marque so that you don't buy one of their unreliable drive trains (eg: DQ200 transmissions).

I sold the Mk3.5 Golf because of multiple simultaneous failures that required $4k in parts and a similar amount of labour on a car worth $12k. Bought the Skoda and it was great until the AC compressor failed ($3k please sir) and the interior started "melting" at the 11 year mark. The body & drivetrain were excellent but at this point the cost of repair was the value of the repaired vehicle.

Being a sucker for the marque I'v since bought a 2017 Mk7 Golf Alltrack. Great to drive but reliability and durability always have question marks over them

  • I am confused, so what does this include exactly????

    • +2

Just logbook preventative maintenance (for VW models) purchased 4-years in advance for an attractive discount. If you're a VW owner, enter your rego and compare the prices for 2-year and 4-year plans.

      • -2

So what's the difference between this and my local mechanic who also offer the same service?

Just cheaper price maybe? If so then this is a good deal for sure

        • +2

If your local tech is a VAG specialist, little difference. If not, compare their expertise with a dealer workshop who has access to service bulletins and sees the same models all the time. If you need remedial maintenance there may be special tools that aren't widely accessible outside VW workshops.

          • +5

@sumyungguy: I want to a vag specialist. Where do you go for that?

            • +1

@The Value: Depends where you live. Do you reckon an independent will do much better than $730 for four services?

            • @The Value: DIY. logbook service is a simple very basic easy job.

        • +7

I may be biased, as I am a independent mechanic myself. But here are my thoughts.

If you're going to a general mechanic, they may not be aware of common faults that a VW technician would know. If you go to a independent mechanic who specializes more in VAG cars, that is where I would recommend going in most cases, provided the price isn't significantly higher than the above deal. Most services at dealerships are performed by apprentices or technicians with less experience. It's generally better to go to a independent mechanic with 10+ years of VAG experience. One other slight concern with this deal is that they may upsell items that you might feel pressured to purchase due to the convenience, which could lead to paying the full RRP VW rate, typically more expensive.

          • +3

@Phwoaaa: Depends on the individual VW service centre. The one in Adelaide did not upsell when I used the Care Plan in the last 4 years. My plan just finished so good timing to update for the next 4 years. That's equivalent to less than $200 a service so not bad.

            • @eter: It definitely varies from dealership to dealership, and my statement above is based solely on my personal experience. I should probably clarify that my concerns are not so much about upselling, but rather about other service requirements that may need to be addressed. I've had a brief look at the 4PlusCare package, which includes 4 services, 2 pollen filters, and 2 brake flushes. However, this leaves me wondering about the DSG fluid, Haldex oil, fuel filter, etc., which some models require to be serviced at the 4th service. Either way, the service price itself still seems like a very good value based on what they're offering. I'm just more cautious about the concerns I mentioned earlier. If anyone has had firsthand experience with what they do regarding other logbook items, I'd love to hear about it.

              • +1

@Phwoaaa: I have this pack and in my last service I was out of pocket around $600 on top of this pack as it included sparks plugs haldex oil and some other things that was not covered by this. According to the dealership it would have costed me double if I didn't have the service pack so a savings of $600 in one service is still good value. The previous 2 service I didn't need to pay anything.

                • @Hellcat: That doesn’t sound bad at all! Haldex oil is outrageously expensive, even at trade pricing.

I’m just being cautious on my end, as I’ve often come across VW invoices with high charges, and it seems relatively common in my area for logbooks to be overlooked and not stamped on vehicles that still have them.

            • @eter: Which service centre was that if you don't mind sharing? I'm looking for somewhere decent to take my Transporter…

          • +1

@Phwoaaa: My preferred VW service centre has competent advisors who don't up-sell; but this may vary by dealership.

            • @sumyungguy: It definitely varies from dealership to dealership, and my statement above is based solely on my personal experience. • @Phwoaaa: They quote for any extras and await customer approval

                • @sumyungguy: I figured as much. Definitely curious as to what dealerships charge for DSG/Haldex services.

      • Would the major service include brakes? I got quoted $550 for pads and rotors so this would be good value.

        • Hard no; brakes are extra. If you have the inclination, pad & rotor swap is an easy DIY job that will save you heaps

          • @sumyungguy: Thanks for that, not really worth it then as our local independent mechanic is an ex vw mechanic himself. I was thinking of doing it myself actually, might look into it more.

4 oil changes to use within 48+6 months.

    • A Star Wars sticker set with every service.

I am totally blaming the workshop if my car hit a curve!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks OP.

My VW just hit 6 years old and was looking for something like this.

  • The website is just stuck on the logo for me when I click purchase.

  • Thanks OP - was going to buy this for a essential service next week. Glad you posted it tonight!

Here full of falcon, commodore and japan/korean fans. Their job is to hate. Haters gonna hate, cry more, hate more boys!

    • Did your disintegrated DSG write that mess?

  • +4

    Thanks OP. Got 1.

Only got the Tax invoice in the email. I didn't get a Certificate as mentioned on the confirmation page.

Also how do we book the service using this. My 2018 Tiguan is overdue.

Thank You once again. My last service was $1000+ hopefully this will save me some money.

    • +1

I purchased two, so far two invoices but only one certificate. May be that humans are needed to issue the certificates? The certificate is linked to your VIN so you verify the Care Plan on the day when checking-in.

  • VW quality has been getting worse in recent years
a few friends including my partner's Golf starts getting minor issues after 3-4 years of drive (from brand new car)
one of my friend's Polo got engine failure after just reaching 6 years with 50k km (repair fee quoted over $10k)
while this package seems good for existing VW owners to save yearly service fee
I have a feeling VW cars getting higher risk of parts failure after 6 years, which will cost a lot just to repair

Now my partner's golf (her 3rd golf) just reached 5 years and last service has quoted her for a part repair for nearly $2k (oil leak)
she is considering just selling it (while it still works) and get a EV instead

    • If its only 5 years old, warranty would have likely just expired. If you've serviced it at VW, hit them up for goodwill. I've had a car 2 years out of warranty repaired free. A group member in one of the fb groups just had his 7 year old Polo repaired free (water pump)

  • +3

@sumyungguy Thank you OP. Bought one. Service sorted for the next 4 years.
FYI, my MK7 DSG mechatronic did break down at 90,000km (6 year old). Because I serviced with VW so far under the Care Plan, they replaced the module out of goodwill despite out of warranty although I had to write to them.

    • I didn't know that there was a care plan and my DSG mechatronic broke down just around the 100,000kms. Worst thing is that I'll put this for sale and half of the money has gone to a DSG repair.

Since I'm going to sell my golf 2015, would this plan be a good selling excuse or not worth to invest for resale value?

      • +1

I fear it may not add resale value as many buyers are averse to dealer service

        • Thanks for the advice. Might skip then.

  • +1

I believe if you own one that’s less than 4 years old and that is on an existing care plan, this will commence after that one expires

  • -8

Vw is absolute trash. I feel sorry for those that own them.

    • What brand/model do you recommend? What do you own/use as a daily?

      • i had an Audi Q7, dad has a Golf, Misso has a Golf. As soon as they get to the 8-10 year old mark the services went up to $2000+.

In my case I was up for $8k in repairs due to injector and major engine issues.

before i had a Kia Sportage, after i had a Kia Sportage. Had zero problems with either.

        • So you recommend a kia sportage as a daily?

I don't have good experiences with Hyundai/Kia group cars. Plastics easily broken chipped on sunny Australian climate. Didnt last long as my Toyota.

        • If you were driving a Q7 and happily downgraded to a Sportage I'd suspect you were in the wrong car. Luxury vehicles are pay to play. Even a Lexus isn't cheap to own.

Less of an excuse for the Golfs however you shouldn't bother dealer servicing a car out of warranty.

          • @tp0: Oh i wanted the Q7 and could afford one new, however once i put my big boy shorts on and realised its just a badge and the compromise was too great i downgraded.

Have an LDV 7 seater now and honestly couldn't care less for the badge, knowing that euro drivers are likely going through pain just trying to maintain their vehicles.

            • +1

@Drakesy: Smart. The insanity of buying a VW is that Skoda is right there selling the same cars with a 7-year warranty and servicing that's half the price.

  • +1

Thanks for sharing. Got mine for my Golf MK7. Was paying more at local garage.

  • +2

Thanks, in time, as my last 4-year plan is finishing this year. This has saved me a lot from the servicing costs.
Contrary to others' experience, my VW has been going good without any issues for the past 11 years now. I have been servicing at the dealer only.

  • +3

Owned many VW and Audi cars. Great cars if you keep them maintained. Everybody complains about the dual clutch, but they are simply beautiful to drive - make sure it’s serviced every major service.

They have some faults, but most cars do.

  • Volkswagen having way too much issues recently this could be good!

  • So this covers the basic cost of the service, and you pay for any additional labour and parts required?

    • Covers 2 x Essential Service and 2 x Essential Service Plus

      • Thanks. Good deal

  • +2

    VAG shares down 28.5% YTD

Now the Australian head office is encouraging customers to pre-pay for services, locking them into dealership pricing on parts and consumables plus effectively giving VAG an interest free loan

Except to the extent permitted by law, the Volkswagen 4Plus Care Plan is non-refundable and cannot be cancelled once purchased.

    Says it all

    • -1

Volkswagen AG hater studies FWB stock prices? In 2023, Volkswagen Group was the largest company in the European Union and the largest car manufacturer in the world by revenue. Know how many cars they sell here every year? I trust they'll prudently invest the generous advance from this year's 1,000 Care Plan promotion.

      • +2

Know how many cars they sell here every year?

        Yes

YTD till October 2024, 30.5K vehicles sold, down 15.6% versus 2023 and competing with Merc for 2024 worst sales drop amongst mainstream brands

I trust they'll prudently invest the generous advance from this year's 1,000 Care Plan promotion.

The loan is secondary, this "deal" is all about locking customers into dealership servicing as the dealer principals are sweating bricks about the said 15.6% drop in sales

        • -1

Dealers have been sweating on the delayed rollout of the eVW range

          • +2

@sumyungguy: Dealers are sweating on the forced investments in expensive and complex ICE servicing equipment when total sales - let along ICE sales - are already going backwards

That equipment becomes increasingly useless as VAG bring more EV's into the country, one of the stated goals of Mr Seifert

Which is why this type of "deal" from VAG trying to lock in ICE servicing revenue to placate dealers will become increasingly common

    • +1

NGL VW is a prehistoric behemoth.

Going the same way as Nokia. I don't know who would in their right mind buy one when you have the chinese pushing out more reliable, cheaper to service and better specc'd cars.

  • I am in my 3rd service out of the 4 year care plan and it's been great. The dealer has quoted $735 for my Golf 120km service and with this care plan, the bill was zero. And my golf that I bought in 2016 has had zero issue so far.

  • Dose VW service including free courtesy car?

    • Varies by dealership
