It is probably wise to play it safe, but I did all 4 in one go transaction and got the full 20K EDR / 10K QFF

        • Staffed-checkout or self-check?

          • @rokufan: Shouldn't really matter, I did 2 then 1 both at assisted checkout and points credited instantly. Points show up on the checkout screen, and obviously in app as well.

  • Can I ask if I can use this to pay for rego?

    • To Vic roads

      • +1

I used it in the past but you have to do six months so it's under$500

        • Not being accepted on vicroads website

  • Can anyone please confirm if this can still be used to pay the ATO?

    • +1

      Just did this morning.

I tend to use the prepaid cards immediately to avoid issues down the track.

Make advance payments to various bills, use a spreadsheet to track credits are correctly applied in future bills.

    • +1

Yes but they incur a credit card surcharge so just do the math to use up the full $500 in one transaction

Majura park Canberra ACT has 4 vanilla visa and 1 birthday gift card. Variable 20-500 version.
I only bought 2 visa, effectively 2 vanilla visa and 1 birthday gift card left.
Staff said only a couple of cards were sold in the morning I would assume there are some hiding in the frozen area.
    Happy hunting :p

  • @WookieMonster Do you know if these can be added to PayPal? What about adding to Google Wallet? Thanks in advance.

    • +6

I just linked the one I purchased this morning to PayPal and had no issues.

I tried adding the one I purchased this morning to Google Wallet, but I got the following message:

This card can’t be set up for contactless payments. Your bank doesn’t support paying contactless on your device with your card. Try adding another card or see which cards can be set up to pay contactless.

      • +2

I got the same error message with google wallet contactless payment. Also note that the Samsung pay doesnt support Vanilla visa for contactess payments.

      • Hi @WookieMonster kindly ask when people would use PayPal?

I just sign up PayPal and link one prepaid card successfully.

        • +3

You can use PayPal at online merchants that choose to accept them.

PayPal is particularly useful if you want to purchase an item from an online merchant that will otherwise reject your Vanilla Visa gift card if you try to use it directly on the website instead.

For example, if you want to buy a discounted Woolworths gift card from a Woolworths Group partner portal using your Vanilla Visa gift card, directly entering the gift card into the debit/credit card section will not work, because Woolworths will not process payments from prepaid Visa gift cards. However, if you check out using PayPal and choose your linked Vanilla Visa gift card as the payment source, Woolworths Group will process your order.

Some payment gateways charge $1 pre-auth (could be other amounts as well), that temporarily lowers the card balance by a dollar and may causes the actual transaction to fail. Workaround is to pay a dollar less (or whatever the pre-auth amount is) than the available balance. Use the remaining balance to pay utilities or at supermarkets.

    • Yea great advice, took me a while to figure this out the first time

  • thanks for sharing and calculation.

  • can this card used in shopback?

    • Yes it can. So stack the discounts.

  • Can this still be used at coles to buy apple gift cards?

    • Yes from my previous experience it still can.

  • +1

use these to buy Apple gift cards from Coles (x20 pts) :)

  • Can you use these to buy gift cards from amazon?

    • used to work, not sure about now, u just add it as a new main payment but using too many will flag them to lock your account temporarily

    • +1

Yep. I used one to buy a category choice gift card last month and worked perfectly fine.

    • Yes. it just acts as a debit card with preloaded value

  • +1

I had no issues this morning with plenty of stock in store and could purchase via self service check out no issues with a special card.

    • Did you split payment to pay using special card? Or you happened to have over $500 on the special card?

      • Got a variable so could load just under by subtracting the card fee (but a whole dollar value) means I know have 5c on the special.

      • +1

If it helps, I bought 2 cards this morning in different transaction. Each was paid with split payment (Special GC from AMEX/Yello deals + normal CC)

        • I didn’t know you can split payments, very helpful thank you!

          Was that at self checkout?

          • +1

@cloudy: Yep but I’m sure you can do that at the assisted checkout too

    • What's a special card?

      • +3

Special is a gift card that has a woolies branded version, it loads into Apple Pay and used like a normal Mastercard so unlike wish gift card it can be used to purchase other gift cards. Many banks also have 10% Cashback (for example Amex recently had $20 cashback on $200 spend and CBA $10 on a $100 spend).

    • Great idea, thank you.

  • What is the website to check for balance?
Google gave two different website and I am sceptical to use either now.
    https://www.vanillabalance.com/cholder/
    https://balance.vanillagift.com

    • +2

The first one is correct. The second one is for customers in the US.

      • +1

        Perfect. Thank you :)

        • +10

For future reference, you shouldn't use Google to find the balance check website for a gift card as there's a higher chance of you entering your details into a scam website. Always refer to what is printed on the gift card itself or listed in the offer terms and conditions.

          • +2

@VantageXL: I didn't even think to read what is on the card. I am usually a bit smarter than that I promise. Thanks again :)

  • Anyone was able to pay ATO from cards bought today? My payments thru Easy Pay got declined. Can't try thru mygov as i am paying for someone else.

    • +1

yep paid directly through ato worked fine

    • +2

Yes, I just paid, and it works! The ATO is happy now. You'll need to enter $498.01 plus a $1.99 service fee (0.4%) auto-applied, making it a total payment of $500 per card.

      • Yeah that is the amount I tried. Did you pay thru Easy Pay?

        • +1

I logged in to ATO website then top menu Tax > Payments > Payment > credit or debit card

        • +2

For everyone who might also be having similar trouble, my payments thru easy pay were getting declined on Safari. Worked on Chrome for some reason.

  • Did anyone try to buy more than two today? Is the limit enforced by the system?

    • I think it's limited by the system on the number of points per day you can receive

    • +1

You can buy as many as you want mate, but you're only going to get points for 2 of them per day.

  • +1

Has anyone tried buying 2 of the regular $500 and 2 of the Birthday $500 in one day? Does it still give you points for both transactions like it did last time?

    • +1

      Yes, I did it

      • +1

And you got 20000 points total on one rewards card?

        • +1

It was two separate transactions but yes, showing a total of 20000 received in the app

          • @yoyo6: just tried today getting the regular ones, but no bonus points shown on checkout after getting 2 birthday ones. I think they fixed this

            • @homersyd: Did you do this in one transaction or two separate transactions?

If you did the latter, did you scan your Everyday Rewards card again before making the payment?

FYI I did this today in 4 separate transactions (because the lady at self check out insisted that it needed to be done separately) and received the correct bonus points.

              • @Chatgpttrue: I did this in 2 separate transactions and yes I did tried to scan the rewards card again

            • @homersyd: that's disappointing but we'll be lucky to find any left at this stage

              • @yoyo6: Still worked yesterday, though I bought 2 regular in the morning, then 1 birthday in the evening.

Bought a Woolworths Gift Card through Special but couldn't go earlier until evening, wasn't planned to wait that long in between, but it shouldn't matter, still within the same day.

  • At the self checkout, if I am getting 2x500, is there any limit how many split payments we can do?

    • +4

no limit, but suggest to pay one card each time due to too many approvals for 2x cards then staff may notice you :)

      • +1

Ok but do they normally need require staff assistance for each card activation? So we need to fully paid each one first?
If that’s the case we can’t put 2 cards into one staff assistance. Does it sounds right?

        • from my exp, one card would need 2x times staff login. when comes 2x cards since amount over 1k, extra approval triggered.
then after 1st split pay, I selected to pay in full the login screen popped up again. so about 6-7 times to bother staff. (if payment failed, another checking)

assistant looked at my other 2x cards said "can u go counter to pay"…

          • +1

            @test8888: lol 😝
Ok tested this morning for each card need 2 assistance, first after entering the amount to load to card and second when confirm to pay and then we can choose split payments options.
I didn’t combined 2 cards, but I suspect if we want to combine 2 cards into a single transaction, it requires 2 staff sighting assistance and 1 assistance for payment.
But all good today got 2 cards.

            • @eecchhoo: Can you split more than one time?

  • +1

Bought 4 cards tonight… came home and used first card immediately without issues. 2nd card opened - 9th-12th digit had been scratched off. 3 digit CVV had been scratched off. Opened 3rd and 4th card - same issue. This is bad! Seek refund/replacement from Woolies or Vanilla/Heritage & People's Choice?

    • That sucks… Which woolies did you buy them from? Also was they any noticeable tampering on the packaging?

      • Flemington. No noticeable tampering.. looks perfectly normal.

    • 2nd card opened - 9th-12th digit had been scratched off. 3 digit CVV had been scratched off.

Curious why someone would do this

      • +5

So you cant use it. And they have time to check if cards have been activated and then use it before you can.

Woolies and coles should just keep these at the service counter.

        • Yes they should keep at service counter.

Or should we cut the cards opened before purchasing?

    • Happened to me with coles mastercard during last weeks promotion, i called the number written in gift cards terms/condition paper.. they lodged a case, hoping to get a card back

  • Hi everyone just purchased 2 from my local woolies, tried to use on shopback, didn't work. Tried again on Rewards app to purchase another gift card, still didn't work. Any ideas where we can use those cards?

    • +2

You may need to wait up to 24 hrs for the card to activate before you can use it. Try again tomorrow and let us know. I'll be disappointed to hear if it can't be used in Shopback.

    • Did you manage to get it working on shopback?

      • -1

        No lucks,

        "Payment couldn't be completed
Please retry your payment, or change to a different credit/debit card. If you need assistance, please contact our support team."

    • -1

Tried everything online seems no luck even linked with paypal

This card can't be used for any transactions. What a scam

  • Can someone please confirm if these can be used in Snip payment?

    • +4

Yes - used it fine yesterday evening - make sure to only try to pay 30mns to an hour post purchase from WLW as otherwise the payment will decline.

  • Hey @WookieMonster - this card doesn't seem to have the option to set PIN unlike Vanilla Mastercard. Do you know if it will work at places where they ask for PIN? E.g. last time I tried using Vanilla MC at Aldi, it asked for PIN and when I just pressed enter, it declined the transaction (I hadn't set up the PIN at that point).

    • +3

No, you can't set a pin, will decline if you enter pin. You need to just press the green button if it asks for a pin… Good luck

      • I see thanks

  • Should these cards be used asap due to the risk that it can be hacked similar to Coles MC?

    • +1

      See https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16032254/redir

Doesn't matter if you try to use it ASAP.

I guess I'll be cutting these cards on the spot to see if the cards are still good. Then pay for it.

    • I hold around 10 cards for months and no issue so far with balance.

Also another friend, who has purchased and used around 50k prepaid cards, told me no issue at all.

      • +1

It's not an issue unless someone has compromised the cards, seen the card numbers and scratched some numbers off.

        • Yea, sorry to hear this.

I have not seen what you encountered, but hopefully we should be able to sort it out.

  • +1

anyone have luck with deft payment?

    • No luck paying to deft payment so far. I tried paying SNiip and it keeps saying something went wrong :(

      • @orangeblossom did you manage to use these cards with sniip?

        • No luck with Sniip. maybe my biller (deft) doesn't allow prepaid visa card.

  • Yay…seen my first reloadable in Woolies… EVER. … nup,.. it's a Thankyou version :(

    • These are unfortunately excluded from the offer.

      • Also non-reloadable

        • Bahaha…fail…squared!

        • ..maybe I didn't..
