Precisely. At the end of the day, if a relative or friend has a completely botched system, it may be worthwhile just paying people like OP to fix it (the commuting costs + cost in time spent easily justifies this).

        perfect analogy. Thank you.

      On this theme:

Don't pay for a plumber, fix it yourself.
Don't pay for a car mechanic, fix it yourself.
      Don't drive, walk.
Don't live in a spacious house, live in a cramp one.
Don't pay for tasty food, eat cheapest stuff only.

      And so on…

It's hard for people working for $15-30 an hour to see why $40 is cheap. What they forget is they are working a full shift, maybe even 35-40 hours a week, regular work with sick leave, holiday pay, super.

This kind of work is casual and there are no benifits, sick or holiday pay, super - nothing but that $40. There's a lot of travel, equipment and business expenses to cover (seen how much a Yellow Pages ad costs?). You might be lucky and live in a high demend area and eventually work your business up so that you're busy. Or you might sit around waiting for work for ages.

Then you get a flood of work all at the same time and ahve to work all hours to get it done.

These are fair prices, nice work OP. You should also think about having set prices for certain jobs etc.

I do IT Support cheaper than this, but I do it outside my regular 9-5 job so I don't have to factor in Super etc like the OP. $40 an hour is very reasonable if the OP does a good job. Some IT companies charge $100 just to turn up.

Why pay $40/h when I get free service from guys from India claiming to be Micro$oft Technical Services.
