Garmin Nuvi 40 with Free Lifetime Maps for $79

80

This is a great simple GPS with all the basic features. Dick Smith is selling it for $79 and it seems to go for 88-110 elsewhere. I bought at TGG with a price match and I am sure that JB or anyone else who has it in stock will match as well.

If you buy a garmi nuvi 40 from any authorized retailer between now and dec 31 and redeem before mid Jan you will get free lifetime map updates.

I should say it is $79 for pickup but DS does do free shipping on order over $100.

    • I know it isn't a crazy good deal but it does seem like the best deal on a good GPS with up to date maps.

  • Seems like Dick is off loading a lot of old GPSs. Good luck to find a store has stocks.

    • Wouldn't surprise me if they do sell out, but I actually got mine at TGG who had tons in stock and JB said they were getting more in today so I don't think it should be hard to find at either DS or someone who will price match.

Highly recommend this GPS. I only use garmin. Good GPS easy to use. I bought 2 from the good guys for 85 each. They currently have it on special in their catalogue with a free case (crest 5inch hard case $19 though you have to remind the salesperson because they forget to
    offer the free case)

    • Damn, I didn't get the free case :( They probobly won't give it with the price match though its probobly worth the extra $6.

    • Yeah I'm a Garmin fan as well. The ability to (easily) add custom maps onto them such as openstreetmaps make it much more useful long term.

But the routing logic still has a way to go, but I guess that's the same with other brands too.

  • I can't see the free case advertised anywhere in the catalogue. How long along did you buy it?

  • I got this last time there was a deal (from Hardleys I think), great unit. Really easy to use. Recommended.

  • Good guys are selling for 78$. I just checked their price online.
    You can save 1$…True Ozbargainer

  • No dick smith near where i work. Went to Jb Hifi for price match showing them dick smith link on my phone. They treat customer like criminal. Don't want them ruin my Xmas. Walked out and called a friend to buy it for me.
Good price with the life time map.
But the sales keeps saying this model doesn't have map update.

    • Haha, funny that.. I went to Dick Smith yesterday to buy a TomTom for somebody, and tried to get them to match the JB-Hifi price, they flatly refused to drop the price from $97 to $84. I walked a few doors down to Target and they happily price-matched JB-Hifi, no questions asked.

I bought the TomTom XL Classic for a friend yesterday but only after arriving home found it can only be updated ONCE! That's ONLY if theres been an update released in the first 30 days of using it. If there's no update within those 30 days, you don't get an update. I might return it and get this Garmin instead, if this really does have free lifetime map updates.

  • Thanks dak52 for posting the deal, I just went up to Harvey Norman and tried this Garmin Navi 40 next to the TomTom XL Classic I bought yesterday, and the Garmin is MUCH easier to use. I went to Dick Smith and bought the Garmin, and will return the TomTom tomorrow.

One thing I noticed on the free map updates redemption page:
"Once this is received your entry will be validated and your Lifetime Map Update code will be emailed to you within 8 weeks."

8 weeks?!? Seems like a long time for a redemption code to be emailed! Does anybody have any experience with this, do they really email it to you immediately but just write this in the T&C to cover themselves if there's a technical issue? It's not much use if you bought the GPS to use next week on a two week holiday, if you can't update it for the next 8 weeks. Weird.
