10% OFF Apple + Free Magic Mouse & Bag, Bundled with $500 + $50 Gift Card at Myer = OzBargain!!

464

Today I got what I believe is the best Apple Macbook Air deal you can get… ever

I have been after a Macbook Air 11" (128gb) for a while so yesterday when Myer started the "Buy $500 gift card get $50 Bonus) I snapped up 2 cards giving me $1100

Myer also have a current promo, purchase any Apple Laptop and get a free Apple Magic Mouse (RRP $75) and The Reginald Transfer - Laptop Case (RRP $75)

Today I went into Myer Chatswood to try my luck… I asked the sales assistant for 10% off, he said he could do 10% + $1 and to my surprise they could still honor the current promo of a Free Apple Magic Mouse and The Reginald Transfer - Laptop Case

So I got:

Macbook Air 11" (128GB) MB829ZM/A - RRP $1249
Apple Magic Mouse - RRP $75
The Reginald Transfer - Laptop Case 15" - RRP $75

For $1025 total (using my Myer Vouchers)

Pretty good deal, I dunno about best EVER though. Maybe if the ing paywave cash back was thrown in to the mix =P

  • +1

You could get that price with Dick Smith with their current $90 for $100 Gift Cards, when they have a 10% off. That's if you aren't interested in the 15" case and the mouse.

    • The mouse is pretty good

    • Current 90 for 100? All gone

      • +2

        Well recent :P

  • +2

great deal… but have to say… not a fan of the mouse (great idea but just not as good as one would expect from apple)… however if that could be substitute for the track pad, that would be great for the iMac…..

  • very good deal BUT i doubt other myer stores will repeat it. Likely you had a myer Christmas casual put that through for you but either way good bargain just dont know if anyone else will be able to get the same.

  • +1

    Doh!

  • I hope you have earned Myer One points on this as well….

    • +1

Yep double Myer One points… first on the vouchers, then on the purchase…

The credit cards points where nice too :)

      • +1

Hope you are claiming TRS as well :P

Heading overseas in 2 weeks… boom

        • That's the spirit of OZB.

        • Wouldn't the receipt say laptop was purchased with gift cards - could you still claim back GST?

I wanna do same thing as you but not sure about getting GST back this way.

        • As long as it is all on the one receipt you should be fine. However if you plan to bring it back into the country you will have to declare anything over $1000 and pay the tax/duty on the amount over the allowance.

These are the rules not sure how hard it is enforced.

      • I have not been able to use my myer one cards when i buy the gift cards.

      • +2

You won't earn Myer One points on Gift card purchases.

  • sell the mouse get a better one. It's honestly one of the worst peripherals I've ever used - The ergonomics are all wrong, no wonder they're giving it away :P
If you really need the touch interface get the magic trackpad but it kinda defeats the purpose if all you've all got is a apple laptop.

    nonetheless, nice little bundle.

    • +2

obviously you have never used the apple puc mouse…

      • Sorry, meant to positive, not neg.

    • Agree, worse mouse ever. I got it free and I sold it on eBay.

EDIT: the trackpad on the other hand is wonderful. See if they'd let you swap it

    • +1

Weird because I reckon it is the best mouse I've ever used. You may want to tweak the click settings.

  • Did you pay for the gift cards on your credit cart? If so you'll collect the interest for $1000 during the month ;)

Edit: Read your replies, CC too!

  • I'm confused, what is the saving here?

  • Hm, I wonder if this can be combined with staff discount..

  • I didn't know myer are doing 10% Apple Macs?

    • +2

Now you know. This is the power of OzBargain!!

  • +2

For those going overseas, that's another 10% off via TRS!! I'm going to try it tonight.

  • +4

Could you post a scan of your receipt to help the rest of us out trying to match this deal?

  • +3

It's not a standard sale - I just asked the sales rep

    • +1

      So just at Chatswood?

    • +12

Is it just me or a very special haggled price like this does not belong here? Not everyone can take advantage of this deal, it's kinda of a depend-on-the-sales-person situation.

      • +2

Agree. OP said themself this is not a standard sale. Belongs in the forums.

      • If he posts the receipt, other Myer stores should honour it - then it would be a deal for everybody.

      • At any rate, it's always a good reminder that you can often ask for 10% off Mac computers and get it instantly. People often forget that.

    • +1

I didn't know you can haggle at Myer?!!

      • +5

        True ozbargainer haggles everywhere :)

        • Even when something is free?

      • +1

You'll be surprised. I've known friends who've haggled for anything more than a few hundred bucks. It works 60% of the time, every time.

    • +1

Can you please post the receipt. Tried 2 sales person with no luck.

  • Do they do education pricing at Myer?

    • Education pricing is less than 5% off. Better to try price-matching against Kogan or haggle like OP.

  • +2

That's a very good deal. I rang 3 myer store for a MacBook Pro and I need buy 2. The best price they can do is $100 off and no mouse and bags unless I pay full price.
Ur deal is what I exactly want to have but fail to negotiate :(

  • You can haggle at woolworths and coles to :)

  • +1

I did this the other day from the Chatswood Myer and got the same deal no problem

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/88214

  • Alright, I went to 2 myer stores tonight. One store can do 10%off but can't give bonus (bag+mouse). The second store also can do 10%off +$15 (13' retina display) but no bonus neither. Sales told ur deal was a wrong deal. They shouldnt do that. So what I can say is u r really lucky.

    • +1

Wendy, can you let us know which stores specifically you went to? May save some heartache.

Did anyone try asking a sales rep if they'd price match competitor prices? I'm after a 13" Macbook Pro 2.5ghz 500gig hdd 4gig memory and as it's a standard default [MD101X/A] it can be compared efficiently.

      Myer sells at $1349 http://shop.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/macbook-pro-13-inch-122…

At Kogan it's only $1179 http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/apple-13-macbook-pro-25ghz-i5/ and yes if you do the math, that's better than 10% discount

      BuyMac is $1290 http://www.buymac.com.au/product/apple-macbook-pro-13-25ghz-…

      ZeroThree is $1295 http://www.zerothree.com.au/new-2012-macbook-pro

It'd be awesome if they price matched, then had the goodies, plus the gift cards!

      • +1

Just to add to this, GraysOnline are also selling the same model for $1249 http://www.graysonline.com/retail/bn-md313x-a/computers-and-…

Dick Smith had 10% Apple RRP http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/85571 ($1214) posted last week and David Jones had $10 off for $100 spent including Apple ($1249) and not forgetting of course too the Apple official Education discount ($1299)

So with so many data points of this model being at or below 10% discount from Apple RRP, I will be absolutely livid if they don't price match or come down by at least that much.

      • Hi tommy, thanks for all information. I went to robina and carindale myer (QLD) and the one I am after is 13' retina pro. The original price is $1899, JB-HiFi had 10%off last week was $1704.6. I asked the salesman but he said this price is below their cost. The lowest price he could do is $1719 but no bonus.
I even said if he could do 10%off+bonus. I will get 2 (my friend wants one) but he said myer is loosing money and manger won't let him do.
I will have a try in city store today see if different salesman can do it.

        • +1

hey wendy, hope you land that deal! I'm down here in Melbourne, and will be hitting up several stores today to see what they can do.

My intention is to get them to price match Kogan, or failing that the next big retailer, which I would then apply the Myer gift cards to for effectively an extra 10% discount.

I'm going to push hard for the extra goodies but to be honest, the Apple Magic Mouse isn't a must-have for me and while I'd love to get the Crumpler bag, not willing to sacrifice not getting a discount on unit price. So I'm willing to let them go.

One thing: the Myer Gift Card $500 for $50 promo seems to end today, so let's give it our best shot :)

If anyone has receipts, please post!

        • Just found out that Mac 1 will have 10% discount off RRP ($1349) from Boxing Day. See http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2029124

        • Hi Tommy, I finally got from from Myer North Lake. $1710 which is 10%off.
This is the cheapest price I have asked in Myer

  • Yes please! Kindly post the receipt for us =)

  • I wonder if this applies to ipads.

  • +1

No luck at the Myer store in the city. The best they could do, was offer me 10% off on the 11' MacBook Air, but I had to purchase Apple Care for $299, and I don't need Apple Care.

I asked DickSmith in the city too, no luck. They said most likely boxing day they'll have 10% again.

    • -1

Macbook air is not serviceable. If you get a back memory stick you cant replace it.

      Get the applecare dude.

    • I tried myer city store (bne) sales rep can give me 10%off no bonus. I am still considering on that

  • Has anyone seen any of the new model mac minis with third gen ivy bridge processor and USB3 at myer?

If so, and you can get a price match (to say apple epp store) - and combine with the gift card - it would be a pretty decent price.

    http://store.apple.com/au/configure/MD387X/A

  • Could you buy the gift cards on your MYER VISA with 12 months to pay?
    I know there's a $35promo fee and $2.95 per month = $70.40.

But at least you wouldn't have to fork at $500+ in one hit.
