Makita 18V Cordless Random Orbital Sander $140.33

    Warning.

    I got sent a pink one…

    • +2

      how random

  • noob question - can I use this to polish cars? Or will this damage the paint?

    • +6

Depends which grit sandpaper you use.

    • Serious reply in case you're not joking - please do not use this on your car..!!

I was outside this morning looking at my BBQ, a humble family Weber. I noticed the gas bottle had a sticker, saying not to directly inhale or you could die, and I remember thinking, "what kind of world do we live in, where we need to let someone, who is about to inhale gas, from a BBQ bottle to the point of possible death, know that this isnt a good idea".

Youve helped me deal with that question this morning.

        • I take it you haven't spent much time on the Ozbargain forums. Or on the internet in general. Or haven't seen some of the cars hurtling down the freeway with so many holograms you could use them on stage at coachella.

That, and using a sander on your car is a very standard method of serious paint correction (wet sanding). Just not this type!

          • @Soothsayer: Makita demonstrates speed 1 polishing (not wet sanding) in the manual

Ozito equivalent is less than half the price.

    • +9

Maybe the case but one is Ozito and the other Makita.

      • -8

What's your point? They have the same warranty - 5 years. In fact, the Ozito one is better; no rego required. I'd also wager Makita Aus would be more likely to reject a warranty claim from an Amazon Germany purchase. Bunnings I've never heard of anyone having warranty claim issues.

Considering the warranty stuff, this Makita purchase seems even worse of a deal than at first glance.

It's true there is plenty of Ozito-branded garbage, and they were mostly crap products until recently, but the PXC range is great. Sold as Einhell in other countries.

        • Makita Aust. will not accept a warranty claim for product purchased via Amazon Germany. My point is Makita is trade quality while Ozito (here in AUS) is positioned towards the DIY user.

        • 5 years warranty, you have to register your product within 30 days from Makita. otherwise it is 3 year warranty. Bunnings just send your stuff to Makita, you wait for outcome.

        • +1

to be honest, if purchased from Amazon, customer service will be better if something is broken, they may just offer your a new one not like bunnings will just send for repair. if the model is discontinue and something they can't fix, they will give you a new one depend on luck.

          • -2

@hyq1031: I've found amazon to be good with this up to about the 3year mark. After that, they seem to try all sorts of BS to avoid helping you, but YMMV. I have never had an issue with bunnings, had something out of warranty replaced at the 6 year mark without question. Sure the Makita is better built, but that doesn't count for much these days - high quality gear fails pretty frequently.

        • Lol there’s some real butthurt folks here judging by all the downvotes 😂 I wonder what level of cognitive dissonance is required to neg someone who simply points out that a cheaper product has a better warranty due to being the same duration but not requiring registration. Fascinating.

          • @eggboi: maybe your egg was cracked boi when you lost people trying to make connections between makita and ozito. determining factor isn't always warranty duration. sure both products have their own target audience…one thing I do if i see somebody in my jobsite using ozito or ryobi, I tell them to pack up and go!

            • @id: Ah gotcha, was on a different wavelength as you said. Occasional home use vs daily driver for work. Thanks for the egg joke 🥚

        • I've got a 100% failure rate from the ozito brand - Drill, belt sander, and heat gun - all within 12 months.

Lucky for me i got corded and didn't bother with their batteries, as I'd probably keep buying the junk of i had them.
The tools I've replaced them with, a combination of Ryobi and Makita, have done their job much better and they are still alive after 3 years.

Hell, the beltsander used to zap me from static

          • @Salmando: Yeah the corded stuff is garbage. You can hear and smell the shitty eggbeater motors in them.

I recommend borrowing and testing some tools from the PXC range and see how you go. Easily on par with Ryobi.

On top of that you can use the cheap ozi batteries on any other 18v system with a $10 plastic adapter. Great if you want some backup juice but can’t justify more first party batteries

There are two types of people in this world, and you are definitely one of them.

        if you say so

To the OP, Bunnings do not price match Amazon let alone an imported model via Amazon.

    • I am keen to get this confirmed? I found discussion here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/851100 but not entirely clear. Also I'd expect this to be somewhere in writing on their website but yet to locate this exclusion myself?

      • +1

Amazon is one of company Bunnings will price match from their system. I heard the staff mention about F6 shortcut key for Amazon.

      • +2

My experience trying to get them to price match was that they tried every excuse under the sun to avoid it…. But you never know your luck in a big city!

    • +5

      I price matched from Bunnings.

      • Can you share a receipt?

    • +1

Can confirm they 100% price match Amazon, have it via email confirmation also! As for the import I can't comment on that part.

  • Bunninga have denied me in the past for a amazon proce match. With the reason being sellwr was not an authorised makita seller. It was not sold by amazon but a random seller.

  • -1

Ebay has it for $107, ebay plus got $10 off that lower down to $97.

      I'm doubtful that's genuine.

Edit: In the description: "This is an A+ replica that closely resembles the original tool. It looks and feels just like the genuine one, and I’m confident you’ll be happy with it if you decide to order."

  • +1

Price match didn’t work for me at Bunnings - due to not doing for “same” day delivery. I advised that Amazon don’t do same day delivery anymore, but I think if it was next day, he might have done it

    • I am on chat with them now..or was until Bunnings ended the chat saying that it is excluded due to "Warranty Differences". I'll open a case with OFT in Qld to see if they agree - not because of $14 but because of misleading guarantee offer.

      • i don't like your chances being a Germany import

        • well, after a lot of too and fro'ing to customer support Bunnings agreed to the $126. They maintained that there guarantee didn't cover it, but failed to provide t's and c's to confirm.

  • Is it any good for car detailing? Asking for a friend

  • Cheers OP. Price match worked for me in store. $126.55. Bargain!!

  • +1

Just got price beat at bunnings for $126.2. I guess its a 50 50 chance the staff knows the policy, just move to another bunning and try price match again

  • Bunnings price match in store is a PITA. For your info, i have purchased Maktia stuff from Amazon shipped from "Amazon UK" and others and successfully registered it on the makita website with absolutely no problem, but i've only bought them when the Amazon seller is the official Makita store on Amazon. With Bunnings price match re amazon, here's the deal after talking to Bunnings Head office in Melbourne - stores are meant to do the price match with minimal fuss but as most have experienced, this is hit and miss and Bunnings Head Office hears this all the time. I had to put in a formal complaint because 2 of the staff were absolute tossers when I tired to do this. Bunnings Head Office advised that the best way to get the price match (with almost no issues) is to just call head office and get them to do it over the phone - they will basically organise a click and collect for you within (my experience) about 10-15 minutes. They will question the warranty issue, but I told them (and its easily proven to them) that it is being purchased from the Amazon Australia website from the official Makita Store and Makita and they were happy with that.

Also if they question free delivery because you have a Prime account, just load the page without logging in (private window or something) and confirm you still get free shipping which on most of these Makita things you do.
