    • whats ur churn history in last 12 months

      • 1 Bankwest Qantas card approved in May last year and still hold that, nothing else though

  • Anyone manage to score 120k on a referral link? Can only seem to get 100k + 30k for referrer

  • Applied on Sunday night, have email asking upload documents yesterday and approved this morning. I churned 3 cards this FY year.

    • 100 or 120k points?

      • 120k by open a link in an incognito window.

        • Think you could get me a screenshot?

Here you go, I just access the link and it’s show 120k. Maybe you have adblocking on your device. I have PiHole so I need to use mobile data to access the link.

  • They’re taking ages to get back to me.

Applied Friday and uploaded documents (also on the Friday). It’s now Tuesday and I still haven’t heard back, despite previous experience with AMEX being instant approval.

Is this a sign of rejection? Or are they just taking their sweet time.

    • +1

      Maybe call up.

I had issues where I uploaded the documents, they called me up wanting another rental income statement. I uploaded this straight away then days later they called me repeating the same question. After reconfirming they 'did not have it', within 5 minutes I then had an approval email..

      • Thanks mate.

Same issue with me. They wanted me to re upload my payslip and rental statements.

        Approved now!

  • Anybody got a feel for the lowest reportable income to get approved with this card? Amex don’t seem to publish minimum incomes anymore.
Wife works part time on a low income (low 20k) but I wanted to apply in her name for the bonus points since I already have an Amex.
I suspect itll be too low, but curious if there are any data points.

  • Hi all,

First time using Amex for credit card churning (previously used Virign Money credit card for frequent flyers)

I'm trying to see how to do Bpay with this but can't seem to find a way on the app or website?.

    • have you got your first statement yet? will need to wait for that

      • No I haven't, I got approved on the 1 Feb so guess will have to wait until next week.

    • Pay from your debit/saving account.

Amex biller code is 5082, ref no is your CC number. Test with $1 first.

  • Anyone have 2 credit cards from other banks already, and applied for this one.
Current total limit for 2 cards = 55K

Will I get rejected if I apply with 2 cards from other banks already?

Have just noticed an offer while placing a booking on the virgin Australia website that was the same card but with 130,000 points, I guess must be Targeted. I already applied and approved for the 120,000 points though

    • +1

Do you happen to have the link from the website that was showing 130,000?

      • +3

I do not have a direct link as it seems i can only find it by following specific steps. I'll list them here,
        1. first go to Shopback (ONLY the mobile app seems to work for this, not the browser) and search virgin Australia and go through as if you were making a booking
        2. follow the steps as if you were making a booking, I used CBR to BNE on a random day in April for example, and go through until you get to the payment page
        3. once on the payment page, do not actually pay for the flight or enter any payment details and instead scroll down to the bottom of the screen and the 130,000 points offer shows up for me with a button to go to the offer, (I'd assume this is targeted so may not show up for others!)

Two screenshots as to what I'm seeing with 130,000 pts (however i now see the spend criteria is $3500, not $3000)
Do let me know if it shows up on your account or not please! I'm really curious now

        • Thanks mate, that works! I got 130,000 points offer and applied for the card. Uploaded documents and waiting for it to be processed further.

Previously, I also activated Velocity offer for extra 30,000 points (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/896331). Hopefully I will get approved and it stacks together for me to get 160,000 points.

          • @Ievgen: Just got approved, that was quick.

        • Just with this - when I click the link from the velocity booking page, I'm still getting the American Express page suggesting the bonus is only 120,000 points. Did yours also say that or did it have 130,000 points?

  • +1

Wow, followed your steps and sure enough it showed as you described.
Admittedly you have to spend the extra $500 for $3500 over 3 months but still a pretty decent deal.

Edit: followed your steps again but this time not via shopback and the 130,000 appeared at the checkout screen so maybe you don't need to go via shopback.

    • +1

ah, good to know! it didn't show up for me unless I went through shopback the first time but it now does when not going via shopback, so interesting that it seems to be random! I've already got the card with 120,000 bonus so cant benefit on this one, but I hope someone else considering has the option to get an extra 10,000 pts!

  • With these 18 month reset periods is it from time when you open the card or when you close the card?

    • +2

      Since closed card.

  • Anyone know how the virgin return flight credit works? I’m wondering if it’s similar to the Qantas Amex benefit where if you cancel the booking within 24hrs, the voucher appears as a credit on your account.

    • +1

This is from what I get when I go to book the complimentary flight from my amex velocity platinum. I have no idea if the cancel withing 24 hours would cancel to a VA travel bank however and don't want to test that myself incase I lose it

There is a VERY LIMITED amount of flights you can actually use the complimentary flight on and is kinda misleading as PERTH residents get a WAY BETTER deal than everyone else

The American Express Velocity Platinum Card complimentary flight must be a non-stop economy domestic return flight on eligible Virgin Australia flights between a departure city and one of its corresponding arrival cities shown here. To book your complimentary flight visit compflight.virginaustralia.com login with your Velocity Account details and search for the flight you would like to book. View the full terms and conditions here.

      • I tried searching on the Virgin Australia booking site however given I currently don't have the card, cannot see the availablity. From your experience, are the flights limited during specific time of year (e.g. school holidays) or in general? I won't get the card if I cannot make use of the flight benefit hence seeking information. Cheers.

      • It's probably the only offer in the history of mankind that benefits Perth residents more than others….

  • Has anyone received the 30k bonus points promotion that velocity is running on top of the 120k sign up bonus that this deal is offering? Or is the bonus 30k only for the standard 100k sign up bonus?

    • I'm keen to hear about if others have had luck with this as well!

  • If it's not instantly approved, does it usually mean it's rejected?

Anyone been approved after receiving the initial "We're reviewing your application and will get back to you in 5-10 working days" email?

    • Yes, i was approved after they emailed me to ask to upload documents
