Telstra Urbane/ZTE T22 1GHz Android 4.0 Smartphone $74 at JB Hi-Fi Was $149

151

Jb hifi is selling the Telstra urbane smartphone for $74, half price. It's an Android 4 ICS 4inch touch screen phone with 1ghz processor and 4GB storage. Seems like the best value smartphone since the cheap LG phones at Coles earlier in the year.

stupid Lumia 920 I got doesn't work with the ozbargain uploader

      • Looks like it was designed by HTC.

        • Indeed spec-wise very much alike HTC Incredible S.

      • +1

Is it just me on or wp8 suck? It seems nothing that's not built into the phone when u buy it works eg. Every time I download a file it tells me I need a special app, but it can never find one, nit for PDF nor epub, although a manual search in the app store shows plenty of apps for both, thinking if going back to Android

  • Note it's probably locked to Telstra and costs $100 to unlock.

    • Yes it is locked, costs $100 to unlock in first 6 months, $27.50 after that

  • Anyway to free unlock?

    • interested to know if this is possible

      • What will unlocking get you? No 900MHz 3G, so Optus carriers are out. VF/Red Bull?

        • I am using Voda reseller.

  • expired?

    it's a ZTE T22

    edit -

JB HIFI have these on special today for $74.50, I think they are discontinuing them as there is no longer a reference to them on the web site. Anyway can't go to far wrong for the price.

    • It hasn't expired, I'm trying to post a photo of the in store display now. The salesperson said the sale started yesterday…

      • yeah,

it's not the best phone available
but certainly one of the best under $100

not the best when it's only 600mhz CPU =/ 1GHz would have been great

    • +1

It is 1ghz processor as clearly stated in all marketing materials and spec listings.

  • -1

    beware , only 600mhz cpu

DONT GET IT. i brought it while back 4 months and run very slow now and very laggy i threw.it at the wall at one point waste of money. my xperia play is so much better

    • +14

Do we have any deals on anger management sessions going at the moment friends?

    • why didnt you root your phone and install custom roms if it were laggy?

      • +1

i threw.it at the wall at one point

might be a clue why not……

  • Yeah, that's a good price for. a fairly large screen Android phone. I bought one at jbhifi Elizabeth st on Boxing Day, the store said one day sale only but yesterday I went to JB High point and there's still dozens there. Bloody liar

The phone does lag, I install Tomtom and it took nearly a minute to load. But that's reasonable for that price.

Anyway, anyone has idea how to unlock yet? Search eBay to no avail…

  • Now I understand this isn't the forum to discuss something like this, but has anyone have anything interesting to say about something like this?

    http://www.fastcardtech.com/goods-8112-HDC-Galaxy-Note-2-GT-…

It's certainly a knock off, but it seems very decent for the price: dual 1.2ghz, 1gb ram, 8mp camera, Android 4.1 for $165 delivered

  • Spotted this at jbhifi essendon DFO on Boxing Day it's ZTE made 1ghz processor and 4.0. Seemed reasonable performance at the price

For something similarly spec'd at Woolies, try this Huawei Y201 too. Deal says it's expired but another poster said it's on till 1 Jan 2013. Can be unlocked easily for A$6 or so with an eBay code purchase.

    • I got one of the Y201. I must say, I'm very happy with it.
Has a 800Mhz CPU which is the speed where things begin to feel smooth, so it doesn't lag like my old U8150 (600Mhz). Runs every game I throw at it, the only stutter coming from the new Need for Speed (but still playable).

Comes with Android 4 so no rush to mod the damn thing. Unlocking was $6.
Currently running with my TPG (Optus) sim.
Nice screen, very responsive, and battery life was better than most phones.

      There, quick little review… :p

    • Saw today at BigW (Garden city, Brissie) for $79.

If you are in Perth, I can unlock these for only $10.00.
I unlocked a few yesterday and the phones look OK.

Please see my other ad for the address

    • And if we aren't in Perth can u share some love and let us know how u go about it? :)

      • I have a dongle and the software, so unless you know someone who has access to that, then you're outta luck.

I do know someone who can unlock any telstra phone but the charge is $30

        • Does it happen to be the sigma one altomic posted about below?

  • Yikes! What a price.
Asked at my local JB whether the phone was on special (it was still marked at $149).
    "Nope, that's the price."
I asked her to check, came up $74. Seems like a real bargain to me.

  • I bought it and returned it because I couldn't find any cheap way to unlock the phone!

    • That reason plus the relatively meager advancement over 2 year dated 'Acer Liquid mt' from which I made my conclusion.

      Telstra Urbane/ZTE T22/ZTE U880E (2012)
      • CPU: 1 GHz (25% faster. maybe)
      • Internal: 512 MB RAM, 2.5 GB user (yet others complain of sluggish perf.)
      • HSDPA: 7.2 Mbps
      • Camera: slow perf./?fps; +a secondary handy for chat
      • Standby/talk (hours): 200 / 240
      Acer Liquid Mt (2010)
      • CPU: 800 MHz Scorpion
      • Internal: 512 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM (seems sufficient ATM but only barely)
      • HSDPA: 14.4 Mbps !
      • Camera: image stabilisation; 720p@30fps; null for Skype
      • Standby/talk (hours): 550 / 480 !

      Source: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4776&idPhone2=…

Other than for a top value( sub $100), on balance I would find it underwhelming.

      • Doh that should be '4' vs '8' hours for talk time; still the Acer Liquid has up to +100%.

  • I looked at it a while back, but the camera was soooooo slow it was a joke. I love that JB actually has the phones out so that you can play with them.

  • Has anyone found a way to unlock this phone in Brisbane?

  • Just having a look at GSMarena in case 'T22' is just a Telstra only model and it appears that the closest match (visually and on spec) is a U880e

    http://www.gsmarena.com/zte_u880e-4776.php

The V and N models are dual sim and CDMA, of which our model has neither.

Also been trying to find a way to unlock using either a code or a software download and no luck so far. Tried gsmliberty.com and http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11051.m43.l1123/7?euid=df08da…

with no luck, however guy I spoke to at GSM liberty was under the impression that you needed to download software and connect to a computer to unlock this phone.

    • Do you need to buy a dongle for that software to work?

      • yeah, but do-able . apparently

      • yes. and it's pricey: http://sigmakey.com/

worth it only if you run a phone repair/unlocking business and do heaps of phones.

  • Would it work with Lyca SIM (being Telstra network)?

    • it worked on THINK mobille (Telstra Network) so I assume yours should work too.

  • Anybody based in Melbourne who can unlock the phone?

    • Check ebay there's a bloke there doing it now

      • Thanks, Got it unlocked and it works perfectly. Very happy with the phone!

  • Anybody in Brisbane can unlock this? Please PM me

  • Also looking for an sim unlock in Brisbane, must be some repair shops that can do it?

  • Very happy with mine - great deal - thanks for posting.
